The documentary revolves around the 1968 special, when Elvis returns to TV for a successful performance, bringing him back to the success dormant during almost the entire 60s, when he made numerous formulaic films, just to make money, as ordered by the Mephistophilic figure of his manager, Colonel Tom Parker. The '68 special was the first time Elvis took the reins of his career and his destiny. Unfortunately, soon after, the Colonel began to schedule a series of shows, usually with a cheap production – except for the season at the Hilton in Vegas – which were exhausting Elvis, already totally dependent on uppers and downers, until the announced end on August 16, 1977.
