  CHAMAS DA VINGANÇA (MAN ON FIRE, USA, 2004) – Denzel Washington é obrigatório. Neste filme de Tony Scott, ele é um guarda-costas designado para proteger a filha de um milionário mexicano. É uma história impressionante que envolve vingança e o resgate de certos valores encapsulados no personagem de Denzel, um ex-mercenário chegado à bebida que se, aos poucos vai se tonando a figura paterna já existente em si. Denzel Washington is obligatory. In Tony Scott’s movie, he is a bodyguard to protect a Mexican millionaire’s daughter (Dakota Fanning, maravilhosa). Here is a gritty, get-the-bad guys revenge story starring a relentless and rough Denzel Washington. He has three personalities here: a down-and-out-low-key-now drunk- former mercenary, then a loving father-type person to a little girl and then a brutal maniac on the loose seeking answers and revenge.

 

3570 - O AMOR É CEGO (2001)

  O AMOR É CEGO (SHALLOW HAL, USA, 2001) – Em tese, a mensagem é correta – o que importa é a beleza interior, mas os irmãos Farrelly erram a mão e abordam o tema dando margem a uma interpretação insultuosa, que em nada ajuda ao entendimento de uma história com fortes traços lipofóbicos. De qualquer forma, Gwyneth Paltrow está mais linda do que nunca. The overall message is correct - inner beauty is ultimately, what counts, because a sparkling character will outlast youthful good looks by decades. However, the Farrelly's have approached the subject in a way that actually insults, rather than genuinely educates. It is not going to uplift anyone who is overweight, it will just depress them. The majority of the film perpetuates the idea that being fat or ugly makes you a pariah or the object of sympathy or vulgar fascination. Anyway, Gwyneth Paltrow was never so beautiful.

 

3569 - LUGARES ESCUROS (2015)

Charlize, bela em qualquer figurino

  LUGARES ESCUROS (DARK PLACES, USA, 2015) – Charlize Theron é Libby Day, uma mulher cujas mãe e irmã foram brutalmente assassinadas quando ela tinha 8 anos. Um membro de um grupo de investigação (Nicholas Hoult) entra em contato com ela e reabre uma investigação sobre o caso, o que faz Libby reavaliar suas lembranças da tragédia. Filme indie, uma história intensa e personagens reais.The story sees Charlize Theron play Libby Day, a young woman who believes that her brother brutally killed her mother and sister when she was 8-years-old. When Lyle Wirth (played by Nicholas Hoult), a member of a crime investigative group, manages to get in touch with Libby, and starts to provide possible evidence on what actually happened, Libby starts to doubt her own recollection of what actually happened that fateful day. A great little movie. Slow and intense, it tells a very good story. Compelling as well as intriguing, the movie real characters.  

 

3568 - ROBERT CAPA - NO AMOR E NA GUERRA (2003)

   ROBERT CAPA, NO AMOR E NA GUERRA (ROBERT CAPA, IN LOVE AND WAR, USA, 2003) – Excelente documentário sobre Robert Capa, o maior fotógrafo de guerra de todos os tempos, desde seu nascimento, na Hungria, em 1913, até sua morte, no Vietnã, ao pisar numa mina terrestre, enquanto cobria a Guerra da Indochina, em 1954. Capa era um bon vivant, boêmio, charmoso e, apesar de seu medo de se casar, namorou diversas mulheres famosas, entre elas, Ingrid Bergman. Sua fotografia poderosa mostrava sua conexão com as pessoas devastadas pelas guerras. Essa atitude, e sua pequena câmara de 35 mm, permitiu que ele se aproximasse dos objetos de sua lente e se jogar inteiramente na ação como ninguém. O resultado é um marco na história do fotojornalismo. Excellent documentary about Robert Capa, the greatest war photographer ever, since his birth, in Hungary (1913), until his death, in Vietnam, when he stepped on a land mine, during his coverage of the Indochina war in 1954. Capa was a charming bon vivant, who dated many famous women, among them, Ingrid Bergman. Robert Capa made photographs that achieved their exceptionally powerful effect through his strong connection to and affection for people. This attitude, and his use of the small 35-millimeter camera, allowed him to approach his subjects and throw himself into the action as no one else. The result was a breakthrough in the history of photojournalism.

Sasha Luss, matadora em todos os sentidos

 

ANNA, O PERIGO TEM NOME (ANNA, França, 2019) – As mulheres belas podem ser muito perigosas. Luc Besson sabe disso. Ele já tinha apontado o caminho, em LUCY, com Scarlett Johansson (epitome do que se entende por “mulher bonita” na pós-modernidade), no papel de um programa computador matador. Em ANNA, ele encontrou outra arma letal – Sasha Luss, algo assim como a colisão com duas estrelas de primeira grandeza. Besson parece mesmo ter uma queda por mulheres fatais e, neste filme, traz suas incursões prévias no gênero para uma nova abordagem, com uma história mesmerizante, repleta de twists, cujo roteiro mantém um fluxo incontável de corpos até nos mostrar que o único que realmente conta é o de Sasha. Na Prime. Gorgeous women may be very dangerous. Luc Besson knows it. He had appointed the way in LUCY, with Scarlett Johansson (epitome of what is understood as “beautiful woman” in the post modernity), as a killer computer program. In ANNA, he has found another lethal weapon – Sasha Luss, something in between the collision of two first magnitude stars. Besson  seems to have a thing for female fatale, and in ANNA, he has brought his previous outings in the genre into a sharp focus with a mesmerizing story, fraught of plot twists. Bresson keeps the body count flowing with far great numbers, making us realize that the only one that really counts is Sasha’s. On Prime.  

 

3566 - 1917 (2019)

Plano-sequência memorável

  1917 (USA, 2019) – Os Oscar de cinematografia e efeitos visuais são merecidos. 1917 é uma das mais fantásticas experiências cinematográficas dos últimos anos. O inebriante plano-sequência que acompanha todo o filme nos leva junto com o cabo Schofield (George Mackay), cuja missão é levar uma mensagem do seu superior até um pelotão na linha de frente da guerra, durante a Primeira Guerra Mundial. Apesar do cenário, o filme de Sam Mendes é de um lirismo inesperado que transforma o pesadelo da guerra numa sequência de insights oníricos compartilhado pelos espectadores. The Cinematography and Visual Effects Awards is highly deserved. 1917 is one of the most stunning recent cinematographic experiences. The inebriating long take that follows the entire movie takes us with Corporal Schofield (George Mackay), whose mission is to take a message from his commander to a platoon in the front line, during WW1. Despite the scenario, Sam Mendes’s movie is unexpectedly poetic and, in a way, turns the war nightmare into a sequence of dreamlike insights shared by the viewers.

      GRACIE & FRANKIE – TEMPORADA 1 - 13 EPISÓDIOS - (USA, 2015) – Quando seus dois ex-maridos (Martin Sheen e Sam Waterson) resolvem se casar, duas mulheres (Jane Fonda e Lily Tomlin) tentam lidar com as novas circunstâncias. Depois dos primeiros episódios, os roteiristas e o elenco encontraram o tom e, a partir daí, não há como se apaixonar pelos personagens, principalmente a Frankie de Tomlin e o Sol de Waterson. A série se alinha com o maravilhoso O MÉTODO KOMINSKY, também na Netflix, com Michael Douglas e Alan Arkin, nas aventuras da terceira idade. Imperdível. Sugestão valiosa de meu grande amigo Silvério. Finding out that their husbands (Martin Sheen and Sam Waterson) are going to marry, two women (Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin) try to cope with the circumstances together. By the third episode, the writers and the cast found their stride and, from this point on, we cannot help falling in love with the characters, mainly Tomlin’s Frankie and Waterson’s Sol. The show aligns with THE KOMINSKY METHOD, also on Netflix, with Michael Douglas and Alan Arkin, in the third age adventures. Unmissable. My great friend Silvério's suggestion.

 

 

3564 - APOLLO 11

The eagle has landed

APOLLO 11 (USA, 2019) – Documentário sobre a missão Apolo 11. On its fiftieth anniversary, the events surrounding the actual Apollo 11 space mission are presented solely using archival footage and still photographs of or associated with the mission. The events span from the last-minute preparations for the launch to shortly after the safe touchdown of the capsule with its three astronauts back on Earth. The mission is historic as the first time humans had stepped on the surface of the Earth's moon. It arguably made household names of Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, as the first and second to walk on the moon, and slightly less so for the third astronaut, Michael Collins, who remained inside the capsule at the time. It was arguably the most dangerous space mission at the time in part to the astronauts leaving the safety of the capsule.
