MANDALORIAN E GROGU (USA, 2026) – Jon Fravreau apostou em que não podia dar errado: manteve a moldura da série e fez o filme parecer a junção de três episódios, tão compartimentalizado ficou o produto final. O filme perde ao exagerar o CGI, principalmente quando deixa os vilões com jeito de cartoon e esquece os efeitos mecânicos, estes um dos grandes charmes dos filmes do universo Star Wars. Sim, Grogu continua fofo, e Mando é um personagem simpático, mas não há qualquer desenvolvimento da personalidade dos dois. Há uma quebra narrativa a partir do terceiro ato, no intuito de preparar para um desfecho grandioso que não acontece e o CGI sem polimento, mergulhado numa fotografia escura demais, acaba por enterrar o que resta em nós de uma nova esperança. Jon Fravreau bet that he couldn't go wrong: he kept the frame of the series and made the film look like the junction of three episodes, so compartmentalized was the final product. The film loses by exaggerating the CGI, especially when it leaves the villains looking cartoonish and forgets the mechanical effects, these one of the great charms of the films in the Star Wars universe. Yes, Grogu is still cute, and Mando is a likable character, but there is no development of the personality of the two. There is a narrative break from the third act onwards, to prepare for a great outcome that does not happen and the unpolished CGI, immersed in too dark a photograph, ends up burying what is left in us of a new hope.

THE NIGHT MANAGER – TEMP 2 (USA, 2026) – Dez anos depois, Jonathan Pine (Tom Hiddleston), um agente do MI6 infiltrado, continua na sua missão de prender Richard Hope (Hugh Laurie), um traficante de armas que todos acreditavam morto. Essa segunda temporada deu uma guinada nas locações, passando a trama para a Colômbia, numa pegada meio Narcos. Hiddleston continua adequado ao papel: um homem misterioso, capaz de seduzir seus inimigos – e suas mulheres, claro –, parecendo genuinamente estranho ao ambiente sul-americano. Seu nome foi cogitado para ser o próximo James Bond, o que seria justo, em função de seu aplomb britânico e inegável star-quality. A primeira temporada foi bem melhor, até porque, acima de tudo, contava com Elizabeth Debicki.  Ten years later, Jonathan Pine (Tom Hiddleston), an undercover MI6 agent, continues on his mission to arrest Richard Hope (Hugh Laurie), an arms dealer everyone believed dead. This second season took a turn in locations, moving the plot to Colombia, in a Narcos-like way. His name was considered to be the next James Bond, which would be fair, due to his British aplomb and undeniable star quality. The first season was much better because, above all, it featured Elizabeth Debicki. Prime.

O HOMEM DO ANO (Brasil, 2003) - Dirigido por José Henrique Fonseca, o filme é uma comédia dramática ácida que destrincha a violência urbana carioca por meio do absurdo. Com roteiro de Rubem Fonseca (baseado no romance O Matador, de Patrícia Melo), o longa transforma a tragédia cotidiana da Baixada Fluminense em uma sátira social mordaz sobre como o crime pode ser gourmetizado pela própria elite. A trama acompanha Máiquel (Murilo Benício), um homem comum e desempregado que decide pintar o cabelo de loiro após perder uma aposta. Essa mudança estética banal desencadeia uma série de eventos absurdos. Ao se envolver em uma briga de bar com um criminoso local e matá-lo, Máiquel deixa de ser uma vítima do sistema para se tornar o "herói" da comunidade. Rapidamente, o protagonista é cooptado por comerciantes locais e pela elite burguesa para atuar como justiceiro particular. O filme brilha ao demonstrar a facilidade com que um homem pacato se corrompe quando a violência passa a lhe garantir dinheiro, respeito, status e um senso distorcido de pertencimento. A crítica social afiada aparece quando o roteiro expõe a hipocrisia das classes média e alta, que repudiam a violência pública, mas financiam milícias e grupos de extermínio por conveniência e segurança privada. Murilo Benício entrega uma interpretação cirúrgica. Sua transição de um sujeito ingênuo e apático para um assassino frio e elegante é feita de forma sutil e magnética. A Direção de Arte e Fotografia sublinha o contraste visual entre a crueza cinzenta da Baixada e a opulência artificial dos ambientes da elite, reforçando a divisão social da narrativa. O terço final do filme acelera os acontecimentos de forma um pouco atropelada, fazendo com que o desfecho perca parte do impacto psicológico construído no início. O Homem do Ano continua extremamente atual. É uma obra essencial do cinema brasileiro dos anos 2000 que evita o melodrama e o fetiche da violência, preferindo usar o humor negro para nos fazer rir do nosso próprio horror social. É uma radiografia desconfortável de um país que, muitas vezes, idolatra o opressor em nome de uma falsa sensação de ordem, base da argumentação da extrema-direita fascista. The sharp social criticism when the script exposes the hypocrisy of the middle and upper classes, who repudiate public violence, but finance militias and death squads for convenience and private security. Murilo Benício delivers a surgical interpretation. His transition from a naïve and apathetic fellow to a cold and elegant killer is done subtly and magnetically. The Art Direction and Photography underline the visual contrast between the gray rawness of the Baixada and the artificial opulence of the elite environments, reinforcing the social division of the narrative. The final third of the film accelerates the events in a somewhat hurried way, making the outcome lose part of the psychological impact built at the beginning. O Homem do Ano remains extremely current. It is an essential work of Brazilian cinema of the 2000s that avoids melodrama and the fetish of violence, preferring to use black humor to make us laugh at our own social horror. It is an uncomfortable X-ray of a country that often idolizes the oppressor in the name of a false sense of order, the basis of the fascist far-right's argumentation.

MALENA (Italy, USA, 2001) – Um garoto de 12 anos, numa cidadezinha no litoral da Sicília, em 1940, se vê tomado de encantamento por Monica Bellucci, ou melhor, Malena, uma suposta viúva que catalisa todos os olhares e desejos do vilarejo. O filme de Giuseppe Tornatore vai além da convencional história “coming-of-age”, até um pouco banalizada cinema, para dar um mergulho numa questão interessante: como a beleza de uma mulher pode ser capaz de estremecer (no mal sentido, tá?) os valores e o comportamento de uma sociedade que tenta se reconstruir depois do horror da guerra. Malena viúva já seria um problema. Mas ela também é sensual, misteriosa e tem uma fidelidade inabalável ao marido, compondo um personagem ao mesmo tempo vulnerável e poderoso. O filme retrata a hipocrisia dos detestáveis “cidadãos de bem” e a incontida selvageria das mulheres que não sabem lidar com a própria limitação estética, diante do poder silente e devastador de Monica Belluci, sendo apenas bela sob o sol inclemente da Sicília. O roteiro também aborda a perda da inocência e como esse processo pode transformar um garoto cheio de sonhos e fantasias num adulto precoce e incapaz de esconder a amargura de ter deixado tanta beleza para trás. A 12-year-old boy, in a small town on the coast of Sicily, in 1940, is enchanted by Monica Bellucci, or rather, Malena, a supposed widow who catalyzes all the looks and desires of the village. Giuseppe Tornatore's film goes beyond the conventional "coming-of-age" story, so trivialized in movies, to dive into an interesting question: how a woman's beauty can be able to shake (in the bad sense, okay?) the values and behavior of a society that tries to rebuild itself after the horror of war. Malena, being just a widow, would already be a problem. But she is also sensual, mysterious and has an unwavering fidelity to her husband, composing a character that is both vulnerable and powerful. The film portrays the hypocrisy of the detestable "good citizens" and the unrestrained savagery of women who do not know how to deal with their own aesthetic limitations, in the face of the silent and devastating power of Monica Belluci, being just beautiful under the inclement sun of Sicily. The script also addresses the loss of innocence and how this process can transform a boy full of dreams and fantasies into a precocious adult, unable to hide the bitterness of having left so much beauty behind.

4991 - POST-MORTEM - FOTOS DO ALÉM (2022)

 

POST MORTEM – FOTOS DO ALÉM (HUNGRIA, 2022) - A photographer, an ex-soldier of the 1st World War, goes to a small village to capture the images of dead family members with the live relatives as it was frequent at the time. In a place that had many deaths because of the Spanish Flu and was unable to bury their dead due to the frozen land, the village is in the hands of unfriendly ghosts. The man is going to try to help them. This Hungarian thriller is not bad. In a time of such shortage of non-progressive movies, a good movie is a preciousness, climbs the concept for "great." It is a thriller with horror and mystery biases, perfectly decent - it is possible to watch it with the children present in the room. Good photography, empathic characters, good decoration of scenarios, and clothing characteristics of the time (early twentieth century). The film leaves to be desired in terms of originality and also, in the ending of the story. As for the latter, it is something that few filmmakers know how to do.

4990 - TOP SECRET (1984)

 

TOP SECRET – SUPERCONFIDENCIAL (TOP SECRET, USA, 1984) – Como misturar os filmes de Elvis Presley com o nazismo? O trio ZAZ conseguiu e com o brilhantismo de sempre. TOP SECRET é uma das melhores comédias nonsense já realizadas, ao lado de AIRPLANE e THE NAKED GUN,  recheada de referências pop, e conta com um elenco que dificilmente se reuniria numa comédia deste tipo: Omar Sharif, Peter Cushing e Val Kilmer (no primeiro papel da sua carreira de 82 filmes). As gags visuais são obras de arte, além dos diálogos repletos de referências pop e algumas alterações narrativas geniais, como a câmera reversa na cena da loja com Peter Cushing. Possivelmente, TP não seria entendido atualmente pelas novas gerações, que precisam de um tipo de humor menos complexo e sem sutilezas. How to mix Elvis Presley's films with Nazism? The ZAZ trio did it, and with the usual brilliance. TOP SECRET is one of the best nonsense comedies ever made, alongside AIRPLANE and THE NAKED GUN, and is full of pop references and has a cast that would hardly come together in a comedy of this type: Omar Sharif, Peter Cushing and Val Kilmer (in the first role of his career of 82 films). The visual gags are a work of art, in addition to the dialogues full of pop references and some genius narrative changes, such as the reverse camera in the store scene with Peter Cushing. Possibly, TP would not be understood today by the new generations, who need a less complex and less subtle type of humor.

4989 - CHEERS - TEMP 7 - 22 EPISÓDIOS (1988)

CHEERS – TEMP 7 – 22 EPISÓDIOS (CHEERS, USA, 1988) – Definitivamente, no lugar mais alto da minha lista de melhores séries de todos os tempos, CHEERS tem um altíssimo valor afetivo misturado com a qualidade insofismável dos roteiros e do elenco. Nesta sétima temporada, atenção para os seguintes episódios clássicos: Executive Sweet (7/3), com Rebecca tendo que lidar com as investidas de Mr. Teal, seu novo chefe, How to win friends and electrocute people, no qual Cliff usa um gadget elétrico acionado por seu médico, quando se mostra desagradável; The Cranemakers (7/16), mostrando Frasier e Lilith encantados pelo nascimento do filho e indo viver longe da civilização, até se darem conta de que são urbanites; The visiting lecher (7/22), em que um amigo de Frasier, Dr. Crandell, dá em cima de Rebecca, achando que ela está interessada nele. Definitely, at the top of my list of the best series of all time, CHEERS has a very high affective value mixed with the unmistakable quality of the scripts and the cast. In this seventh season, attention to the following classic episodes: Executive Sweet (7/3), with Rebecca having to deal with the advances of Mr. Teal, her new boss, How to win friends and electrocute people, in which Cliff uses an electric gadget activated by his doctor, when he proves to be unpleasant; The Cranemakers (7/16), showing Frasier and Lilith enchanted by the birth of their son and going to live far from civilization, until they realize that they are urbanites; The visiting lecher (7/22), in which Frasier's friend, Dr. Crandell, hits on Rebecca, thinking she is interested in him.

4988 - BUGONIA (2025)

 

BUGONIA (USA, 2025) – Com sua raiz no grego, a palavra “bugonia” refere-se a um antigo ritual agrário, segundo o qual haveria uma geração espontânea de abelhas a partir da carcaça em decomposição de um boi ou vaca. O filme é um produto característico de Yorgos Lanthimos: ousado, heterodoxo, desconfortável e, claro, também original na sua proposta narrativa. Michelle (Emma Stone) é a CEO de uma empresa farmacêutica e é sequestrada por dois homens (um deles, Jesse Plemons, que ainda não me convenceu de que é um ator com talento), motivados pela crença de que ela é uma alienígena que poderia salvar a Terra. Aqui, temos uma mistura de humor sombrio, paranoia e horror psicológico, elementos que poderiam se dissipar numa análise de um possível desfecho preguiçoso, meio estilizado e decepcionante, ou uma jogada magistral de um diretor caracterizado por soluções incomuns. A abordagem apícola do desenho de produção – evidenciada nos cenários onde formas hexagonais se repetem até formarem algo semelhante a uma colmeia – pode representar o renascimento, a renovação e  emergência da vida a partir da decadência física e moral, refletindo a antiga crença de que a morte pode dar início a uma nova humanidade depois de atingir o colapso social e ambiental. Além disso, os personagens, de certa forma, agem como apicultores preocupados em proteger uma espécie nos seus estertores (a humanidade), quando o meio ambiente já se encontra praticamente destruído. Afinal, as abelhas nos lembram do delicado equilíbrio da natureza e das severas consequências da exploração irracional do planeta. With its roots in Greek, the word "bugonia" refers to an ancient agrarian ritual, according to which there would be a spontaneous generation of bees from the decaying carcass of an ox or cow. The film is a characteristic product of Yorgos Lanthimos: daring, unorthodox, uncomfortable and, of course, also original in its narrative proposal. Michelle (Emma Stone) is the CEO of a pharmaceutical company and is kidnapped by two men (one of them, Jesse Plemons, who still hasn't convinced me of being a talented actor), motivated by the belief that she is an alien who could save Earth. Here, there is a mixture of dark humor, paranoia and psychological horror, elements that could dissipate through an analysis of a possible lazy, somewhat stylized, and disappointing outcome, or a masterful move by a director characterized by unusual solutions. The beekeeping approach to production design – evidenced in the scenarios where hexagonal shapes repeat until they form something resembling a beehive – can represent the rebirth, renewal and emergence of life from physical and moral decay, reflecting the ancient belief that death can usher in a new humanity after reaching social and environmental collapse. In addition, the characters, in a way, act like beekeepers concerned with protecting a species in its death throes (humanity), when the environment is already practically destroyed. After all, bees remind us of the delicate balance of nature and the severe consequences of irrational exploitation of the planet.

4987 - HOMELAND - TEMP 1 - 12 EPISÓDIOS (2011)

 

HOMELAND – TEMP 1 – 12 EPISÓDIOS (HOMELAND, USA, 2011) - O maior mérito da primeira temporada é manter o espectador constantemente dividido sobre a verdadeira identidade e lealdade de Nicholas Brody (Damian Lewis). Após oito anos de cativeiro no Iraque, ele retorna aos Estados Unidos como herói nacional, mas a agente da CIA Carrie Mathison (Caire Danes) suspeita que tenha sido convertido por terroristas. Em vez de apresentar um vilão evidente, constrói um personagem complexo, traumatizado e contraditório, que pode ter se tornado outra pessoa após a guerra. O suspense não depende apenas da pergunta "Brody é culpado?", mas também de "quem ele se tornou após a guerra. A interpretação de Claire Danes como Carrie Mathison se destaca – seu personagem é brilhante, obsessivo, impulsivo e emocionalmente vulnerável. A série retrata seu transtorno bipolar sem reduzi-la a um estereótipo. Sua condição psicológica afeta seu trabalho, mas também está ligada à sua capacidade de perceber padrões que os outros ignoram. Essa complexidade confere profundidade rara a uma protagonista de thriller. A temporada reflete as ansiedades dos Estados Unidos após os ataques de 2001. The greatest merit of the first season is to keep the viewer constantly divided about the true identity and loyalty of Nicholas Brody (Damian Lewis). After eight years of captivity in Iraq, he returns to the United States as a national hero, but CIA agent Carrie Mathison (Caire Danes) suspects he has been converted by terrorists. Instead of presenting an obvious villain, he builds a complex, traumatized and contradictory character, who may have become someone else after the war. The suspense doesn't just hinge on the question "Is Brody guilty?" but also on "who he became after the war. Claire Danes' portrayal of Carrie Mathison stands out – her character is brilliant, obsessive, impulsive, and emotionally vulnerable. The series portrays her bipolar disorder without reducing it to a stereotype. Her psychological condition affects her work, but it's also linked to her ability to notice patterns that others ignore. This complexity gives rare depth to a thriller protagonist. The season reflects the anxieties of the United States after the 2001 attacks. Instead of simply reproducing patriotic speeches, it questions topics such as: state surveillance, the war on terror, collective paranoia, the ethical limits of intelligence; psychological consequences of war. In this sense, Homeland works both as a political thriller and a case study. Damian Lewis transforms Nick Brody into a complex character who can be the victim, hero, traitor, and family man. The actor manages to convey genuine suffering without completely revealing the character's intentions, a fundamental element for the season's suspense. Unmissable.

4986 - UMA MENINA SILENCIOSA (2022)

UMA MENINA SILENCIOSA (AN CAILÍN CIÚIN, Irlanda, 2022) – A narrativa acompanha Cait, uma menina introvertida e tímida que é enviada para passar o verão na casa de parentes distantes em uma zona rural da Irlanda. A interação com essa nova família, especialmente com um casal de meia-idade, vai, lentamente, abrir caminhos para que Cait se conecte com suas emoções e se sinta mais segura e amada. O filme se destaca por sua abordagem intimista, onde o silêncio não é apenas ausência de palavras, mas um espaço carregado de significado e sensibilidade. A atuação da jovem atriz (Caitríona Ní Mhurchú) é muito natural e convincente, transmitindo muito da narrativa pelas expressões e gestos, em vez de diálogos extensos. A direção e a fotografia também são muito cuidadosas, usando a paisagem irlandesa como um elemento quase vivo, que contribui para a atmosfera introspectiva. O que torna o filme especialmente tocante é seu olhar delicado para as dificuldades da infância e a resiliência emocional. A SILENT GIRL (AN CAILÍN CIÚIN, Ireland, 2022) – The narrative follows Cait, an introverted and shy girl who is sent to spend the summer at the home of distant relatives in a rural area of Ireland. The interaction with this new family, especially with a middle-aged couple, will slowly open up ways for Cait to connect with her emotions and feel more secure and loved. The film stands out for its intimate approach, where silence is not just the absence of words, but a space loaded with meaning and sensitivity. The performance of the young actress (Caitríona Ní Mhurchú) is very natural and convincing, conveying much of the narrative through expressions and gestures, rather than extensive dialogues. The direction and photography are also very careful, using the Irish landscape as an almost living element, which contributes to the introspective atmosphere. What makes the film especially touching is its delicate look at childhood difficulties and emotional resilience. The way the film deals with Cait's selective mutism and her emotional growth process is done in a respectful way, avoiding easy sentimentality. It is a work that invites the viewer to slow down, observe and feel, valuing the internal look and the emotional world of children in a very human way. In short, it is a poetic, soft film with a sensitive treatment of relevant themes such as belonging, silence and overcoming emotional wounds. A production that is marked by its serenity and the strength of subtlety. It is one of the most beautiful and exciting films of recent times. Be prepared to use the tissue. Reserva Imovision.
