Tem imagens belíssimas. This documentary portrays the lifestyle of some inhabitants of the Andes area, as well as their connection with nature.      HISTÓRIAS CRUZADAS (THE HELP, USA, 2011) – O filme mostra o drama das empregadas negras nos Estados Unidos durante a conturbada luta pelos direitos civis em meados do século passado. Há a história de uma escritora – Emma Stone – e isso já basta para me chamar a atenção. É o personagem dela que tem a ideia de revelar ao mundo o que aquelas mulheres negras sentem e sofrem. Viola Davis e Octavia Spencer estão inesquecíveis em seus papeis. The movie portrays the dramatic lives of the black maids in the United States, during the troubled times of the civil rights struggle in the 60s. there is a story about a writer – Emma Stone’s role – and this would be enough to call my attention. She is Keeter Phelan, a writer who decides to reveal to the world the drama and the suffering of those black women.

      A MULHER MAIS ODIADA DOS EUA (THE MOST HATED WOMAN IN AMERICA, USA 2017) - A militant defender of the 1st Amendment, Madalyn Murray O’Hair founded the American Atheists organization in 1963 after using her young son William as an opportunity to sue the Baltimore City Public School System, an effort that eventually reached the Supreme Court and effectively led to the end of mandatory Bible prayers in the nation’s education system. William, who now goes by the name Bill Murray, would grow up to become a Baptist minister — today, he serves as the chairman of the Religious Freedom Coalition, his life devoted to reversing the kind of secular progressivism that thrust his mother into the national spotlight. Pulled taut between the disparate forces of fame and freedom, this is a uniquely American story that’s rich with relevant detail, tantalizingly sordid even before you get to the part where Madalyn is kidnapped from her Austin home in 1995, abducted alongside her underachieving son and Bill’s estranged daughter. In other words, it’s hard to believe that “The Most Hated Woman” is the first movie that’s been made about the Murray family’s remarkable lives or their outsized impact on our sociopolitical landscape. By that same token, however, it’s even harder to believe that the first such movie could be this spectacularly inert and uninteresting — seldom has a biopic done so little with so much.

Uma série sobre a amizade...

1.      STAR TREK, A SÉRIE ORIGINAL (STAR TREK, THE ORIGINAL SERIES, USA, 1966) – Os 29 episódios desta primeira temporada constroem o cânone da série, com roteiros sensacionais e personagens que se complementam perfeitamente com os atores. É interessante comparar os dois pilotos: o primeiro, que não foi ao ar, com Jeffrey Hunter como o capitão Christopher Pike; e o segundo, que realmente começou a série, com o elenco clássico, encabeçado por William Shatner. Atenção para os epísódios AMANHÃ É ONTEM, quando a Entreprise volta aos anos 60 na Terra, e THE CITY ON THE EDGE OF FOREVER, em que McCoy, contamindado por um vírus, enlouquece e faz com que Kirk e Spock voltem ao passado. The 29 epidodes of this first season build the canon of the show, with outstanding scripts and characters that are soliditily connected with the actors. It quite interesting to compare the two pilots: the first, unaried, with Jeffrey Hunter as Captain Christopher Pike; and the second that really starts the series, with the classic cast, with Bill Shatner. Attention to the following episodes: TOMORROW IS YESTERDAY, in which the Enterprise goes back to Earth in the 60’s, and THE CITY ON THE EDGE OF FOREVER, in which McCoy gets insane after having been contaminaded by a virus and makes kirk and Spock go back to the past.

BOSCH – TEMPORADA 1 (BOSCH, SEASON 1, USA, 2014) – Harry Bosch (Titus Welliver) é um detetive veterano em Los Angeles, daqueles que seguem qualquer possivel pista, qualquer que seja a investigação. Sem assumir o papel de justiceiro ou vigador, Bosch é um homem determinado a seguir a lei, mesmo que tenha que, digamos, expandir os limites jurídicos mais tradicionais. Além disso, é um amante de jazz – morando sozinho em sua casa envidraçada numa das colinas de LA, ele possui uma invejável coleção de vinis do gênero, enquanto vislumbra uma das mais belas paisagens da cidade. Aliás, a maioria das locações são externas, o que torna a série ainda mais atraente, não bastassem as perfeitas atuações do elenco e o excelente roteiro. Dez episódios imperdíveis. No Prime. Harry Bosch (Titus Welliver) is a veteran detective in LA, one of those who follow any lead in any investigation. Not being a vigilante, Bosch is a man focused on the letter of the Law, even though, sometimes, he has to expand the traditional juridical limits. Besides, he is a jazz lover – living alone in a glass-walled house on one of the LA hills, from which he has a stunning view of the city, he has an enviable jazz collection. Most of the locations are external, which makes the show even more charming. The cast is top-notched and the script is outstanding. Ten unmissable episodes. On Prime.

Spock, para sempre...

1.     FOR THE LOVE OF SPOCK (USA, 2016) – Belíssimo documentário sobre a vida de Leonard Nimoy e o personagem mais popular de Star Trek. O filme propicia um olhar fascinante (sem duplo sentido) na forma que o sucesso afetou sua família, especialmente seu filho, Adam, que produz e dirige esta homenagem a um ator que foi muito além do que um ícone na cultura pop. Netflix. Beautiful documentary about Leonard Nimoy’s life and the most popular character of STAR TREK. The movie provides a fascinating look at Nimoy’s life and how ST impacted his family, especially his son, Adam, who produces and directs this homage to an actor and his legacy to the pop culture. Clearly Nimoy was a man respected by his many peers and whose portrayal of Spock had an influence beyond his own work.  Netflix.  

3483 - TED BUNDY, A IRRESISTÍVEL FACE DO MAL

Zack Efron e a filha de Phil

      TED BUNDY,A IRRESISTÍVEL FACE DO MAL (EXTREMELY WICKED, SHOCKINGLY EVIL AND VILE, USA, 2019) - The narrative feature from veteran documentarian Joe Berlinger seems as though it’s setting out to be the story of serial killer Ted Bundy told through the eyes of his girlfriend, Liz Kloepfer (Lily Collins.) It’s a good premise, and an interesting idea to delve into the “charming sociopath” profile that Bundy exemplified through the eyes of the person who was perhaps most charmed. But Berlinger’s film gets sucked into the gravity of sensational events that are already a matter of public record, and spends so much time meticulously recreating them that the perspective is diluted. It is not long before the film seems to lose any perspective at all. His film attempts to reframe Bundy’s story through the perspective of Elizabeth Kloepfer, a single mother who remained his girlfriend well into his incarceration in 1976. In Berlinger’s film, she’s renamed Liz Kendall, as she calls herself in the autobiography that Michael Werwie’s screenplay takes its basis from. As played by Lily Collins, Liz allows us to explore the lingering mystery of Bundy: how could a man who seemed so normal to the outside world be capable of such depravity? It’s an interesting approach that offsets many of the complaints that our true-crime obsessions risk disregarding the victims. Liz may have been spared, but she knew too well what a destructive force he was in the world.

1.    DOSSIÊ JANGO (BRASIL, 2013) – O documentário trata da investigação sobre a morte de Jango. Na primeira parte, o documentário apresenta uma sustentação histórica bastante vigorosa, a partir de imagens de época e depoimentos relevantes. A partir daí, a produção assume de vez o tom investigativo sobre se João Goulart teria realmente morrido de causas naturais. Por mais que nenhuma prova do contrário seja apresentada, os indícios são esclarecedores sobre o quanto Jango, mesmo morto, incomodava o regime vigente. The documentary is about the Jango’s death investigation. In the first part, we have a historical account of the time, based on footage and testimonies. Then, the production is driven to a more investigative tone and start to investigate about the actual causes of Jango’s death.

3481 - NATALIE WOOD, AQUILO QUE PERSISTE

Natalie, emocionante

1.      NATALIE WOOD – AQUILO QUE PERSISTE (NATALIE WOOD, WHAT REMAINS BEHIND, USA, 2020) – Belo tributo a Natalie Wood através da visão da sua filha, Natasha, com depoimentos de amigos e da família, incluindo uma sincera entrevista com Robert Wagner, que fala abertamente sobre a noite em que Natalie morreu, afogada, depois de uma discussão com ele. Indispensável para quem não conhece o trabalho da atriz, especialmente dois de seus filmes mais sintonizados comigo: CLAMOR DO SEXO e A CORRIDA DO SÉCULO. O título tem a ver com o poema de William Wordsworth, que ela declama lindamente no emocionante CLAMOR DO SEXO: é um dos trechos mais lindos ("though nothing can bring back the hour of splendor in the grass, the glory in the flower, we will grieve not, rather find what remains behind"). HBO. Nice tribute to Natalie Wood, through her daughter’s eyes, Natasha, and testimonies of friends and family, including a sincere interview with Robert Wagner, who speaks his mind about the night when Natalie drowned, after a discussion with him. Indispensable for those who are not acquainted with Natalie’s body of work, especially these two movies: SPLENDOR IN THE GRASS and THE GREAT RACE. HBO. The title has to do with William Wordsworth's poem that she declaims beautifully in SPLENDOR IN THE GRASS.

3480 - UM MUNDO PERFEITO (1993)

Butch e Philip, adoráveis

    UM MUNDO PERFEITO (A PERFECT WORLD, USA, 1993) – Este filme dirigido por Clint Eastwood e estrelado por Kevin Costner é um monumento de delicadezas, num roteiro inesperado: Butch (Costner), após fugir da prisão, sequestra, Philip, um garoto de oito anos, cuja família, Testemunha de Jeová, o privava de festas, aniversários e de qualquer brincadeira infantil. Os dois descobrem semelhanças – Butch, assim como Philip, também tem seus traumas em relação a seu pai. Assim, o road-movie de Eastwood vai costurando as duas histórias da forma mais emocionante possível, com atuações perfeitamente encaixadas no roteiro. Muito disso se acontece por causa da atuação de Costner, serenamente equilibrada e memorável. Obrigatório. This movie directed by Clint Eastwood and starred by Kevin Costner is a monument to delicate things of life, wrapped in an unexpected script: Butch (Costner), after having escaped from prison, kidnaps an eight-year-boy, Philip, whose family, Jehovah's Witnesses, forbids him to party, celebrate birthdays and play with other children. They find out many things in common – they both have father issues. Thus, Eastwood’s road-movie sews together the two life stories through performances entirely connected to the script. Much acclaim is due to Costner's character, who is serenely nuanced enough to make a true, memorable character. A must-see.

1.   CAMPO DOS SONHOS (FIELD OF DREAMS, USA, 1989) – Este é um dos meus filmes favoritos. Talvez pelo simples fato de ser uma história sobre a esperança e os sonhos, coisas raras hoje em dia. Além disso, todas as atuações são apaixonantes: Kevin Costner, James Earl Jones e Burt Lancaster, no seu último filme. Ray Kinsella (Costner), um fazendeiro de Iowa, ouve uma voz que lhe diz para construir um campo de beisebal no meio de seu milharal. Mesmo sem entender os sinais que recebe, Kinsella vai dando forma ao seu sonho que, claro, está enredado num trauma familiar envolvendo seu pai. Vale a pena ver sempre. This is one of my favorite dreams, because it is a story based on hope and dreams, rare articles nowadays. Besides, every performance is catching: Kevin Costner, James Earl Jones and Burt Lancaster, in his last movie. Ray Kinsella (Costner), a farmer in Iowa, hears a voice that tells him to build a basebal pitch in the middle of his corn crop. Even though he does not understand the signs, Kinsella keeps on shaping his dream that, of course, is entangled with a familiar issue involving his father. It is worth seeing everytime.

3478 - STAR WARS: A ASCENSÃO SKYWALKER

BB8 e DO, adoráveis, sempre

1   STAR WARS: EPISÓDIO IX - A ASCENSÃO SKYWALKER (STAR WARS: EPISODE IX – THE RISE OF SKYWALKER, USA, 2019) – J.J. Abrams se esforçou para dar ao último episódio da terceira trilogia toda a emoção que faltou no filme do meio, OS ÚLTIMOS JEDI, do fraco diretor Rian Johnson. Tentou, mas não conseguiu. Os bons CGIs se perdem num história fraca, que precisou da ajuda de alguns fantasmas do passado (literalmente) para que o espectador se sinta minimamente conectado à história. Ficamos sabendo as origens de Rey, mas tal revelação acabou sendo um pouco frustrante. Depois de quatro décadas de expansão contínua, o universo de STAR WARS chega aos seus estertores, deixando uma ponta de frustração que pode ser devida à ligação afetiva que nós temos com os primeiros filmes – a expectativa sempre foi muito maior do que a capacidade dos produtores de satisfazerem um público que nunca deixará de ter uma nova esperança. Prime. J.J. Abrams made a great effort to give the last episode of the third trilogy the emotion that THE LAST JEDI did not deliver. He really tried, but he failed. The good CGIs get lost in a feeble plot that needed some past ghosts’ help (literally) to make the viewer minimally connected to the story. We are told Rey’s life story, but this ended up being a little frustrating. After four decades of continuous expansion, the STAR WARS universe has reached its end, leaving the sensation that much might have been developed in this last edition. This can be explained by the huge expectations we all have – something that the producers seem not to be able to handle. Anyway, we still have a new hope. Prime.  

3477 - LEGALIDADE

Cleo Pires, quase irreconhecível

1.      LEGALIDADE (BRASIL, 2019) – O episódio histórico da defesa feita por Leonel Brizola da Constituição para que Jango assumisse a presidência da República, após a renúncia de Jânio Quadros mereceria uma produção mais caprichada. O filme do diretor Zeca Brito, apesar da homenagem justa a essas duas figuras da política nacional, peca ao não contextualizar, de forma mais didática, o período histórico da trama. Cleo Pires, embora com uma atuação competente, tem no seu rosto inútil e prematuramente plastificado um desnecessário elemento disruptivo dentro do ambiente dramático. Leonel Brizola’s defense of Jango’s constitutional right to take office as the President of Brazil, after Jânio Quadro’s resignation would deserve a better production. Director Zeca Brito’s movie, despite the fair homage to these two national figures of the political national scenario, does not contextualize the historical period of the story. Cleo Pires, though she has a competent performance, is a disruptive element due to her cosmetically altered face.

3476 - UMA PISTOLA EM CADA MÃO

Darín, grandíssimo

      UMA PISTOLA EM CADA MÃO (UMA PISTOLA EM CADA MANO, Espanha, 2012) -  Não há tiros no filme, como sugere o título, mas sim uma coleção de egos masculinos feridos emocionalmente. Ricardo Darín é sempre obrigatório e está num dos episódios deste filme do catalão Cesc Gay, em total empatia com seus atores. É um passeio voyeurístico na vida dos personagens, que formam uma irmandade que encanta tanto homens quanto mulheres. There are no actual shootouts in the movie but plenty of male egos are wounded in this clever collection of comic vignettes from Catalan auteur Cesc Gay, who reveals great empathy with his male characters, as he gradually unfolds six engrossing tales about love both lost and found, as well as friendships valued. Starring a top-notch cast of Spanish-language talents—including Ricardo Darin. The reality of what we are witnessing makes us feel like voyeurs on real people’s real lives, such is the brilliance of the acting style required by the director. All the men involved frankly express the emotions they are feeling to each other in an entirely engaging way, appearing both tender and sensitive to each other’s plight. It is a very clever male bonding movie, which sadly will probably be viewed mainly by women, as many men will find it hard to confront. Petra Belas Artes.

Uma das cenas icônicas do filme

    O GRANDE DITADOR (THE GREAT DICTATOR, USA, 1940) – Esta obra-prima de Chaplin não poderia ser mais atual, em função do absurda da ascensão dos governos fascistas no mundo e, especialmente e infelizmente, no Brasil. No filme, fica claro que Chaplin faz uma defesa da herança do Iluminismo. ‘Vamos lutar por um mundo da razão”, diz em uma das suas falas. Tudo faz lembrar o que se passa atualmente no nosso país – a fala quase canina de Hinkel é tão odiosa, que o microfone se afasta, representação criativa da sua crítica ao autoritarismo. O filme é narrado em blocos quase independentes, até o discurso final, uma das cenas mais icônicas do cinema. Para ser visto sempre. Chaplin’s masterpiece could not be more contemporary, due to the absurd ascension of fascist governments in the world, especially and unfortunately in Brazil. In the movie, Chaplin stands for the Illuminist heritage – “Let’ fight for a world of reason”, he says in one sequence. Everything reminds us of what is going on in our country – Hickel’s almost canine speech is so abhorring that the microphone moves back, in one of the most emblematic sequences in which he criticizes authoritarianism. The movie is narrated in independent blocks until the final speech, one of the most iconic scenes of cinema. To be seen over and over.

     DESCONHECIDO (UNKNOWN, USA, 2011) – O filme é intrigante até o fim, nos remetendo ao estilo hitichcokiano, com uma característica da pós-modernidade: a ênfase na ação ininterrupta. Liam Neeson quase sempre faz personagens que são jogados em situações absurdas, das quais sempre se safa graças a alguma habilidade surpreendente. Atenção para a presença de Bruno Ganz e Sebastian Koch, dupla do maravilhoso A VIDA DOS OUTROS. E ainda podemos ver Frank Langela, numa atuação cirúrgica e impressionante. HBO. The movie sounds intriguing since from the beginning and keeps its sense of mystery and intrigue till the end: this is a good quality, once reminding Hitchcock's thrillers, with the difference that in "Unknown" the thrilling aspect cannot be separated from the frenzy typical of action movies. Anyone who has watched Liam Neeson's movies have grown accustom to a character that is always thrown into absurd situations but can still somehow use wit, power and skills to get himself out. Attention to Bruno Hanz and Sebastian Koch, from the devastating THE LIFE OF OTHERS. We can also see Frank Langela, in a surgical and impressive performance. HBO.

Denzel, entre seus amores... de longe, Spike Lee observa...

MAIS E MELHORES BLUES (MO’ BETTER BLUES, USA, 1990) – Denzel Washington é obrigatório. Spike Lee também. Este filme é poema em forma de música – Denzel é Bleek, cuja vida se resume ao jazz e ao amor de duas mulheres. Muitos já se dividiram entre trabalho e amor. Este é o caso de Bleek, o líder de um quinteto de jazz tão focado em sua música, que passa a ignorar tudo que está em sua volta, até ser tarde demais. E o que fazer depois que seu mundo desabou? Aonde ir quando não há saída? Bleek tem que enfrentar estas questões, mais cedo ou mais tarde. Atenção para a sequência final, emulando o começo do filme. Denzel Washington is obligatory and so is Spike Lee. This movie is a poem in the shape of music. Work and love. How many of us have been torn between the two. Denzel Washington is Bleek Gilliam, the leader of a jazz quintet who is so focused on his music that he ignored all that is going on around him until it is too late. What do you do the day after your world comes crashing down? Where do you go when facing the brick wall? Bleek has to face these questions, as we all do at one time or another. Attention to the final sequence, emulating the beginning of the movie.

Grace Kelly fazendo tudo por Cary Grant

       LADRÃO DE CASACA (TO CATCH A THIEF, USA, 1955) – Mais uma das obras-primas de Hitchock. As paisagens da Riviera Francesa só não são mais belas do que Grace Kelly, que ilumina cada fotograma em que aparece. Cary Grant é um daqueles atores que parecem não fazer força para representar, bastando ser Cary Grant para dar conta do protagonismo de qualquer filme. Nesta mistura de comédia e suspense, ele é um ladrão de jóias aposentado que quer provar sua inocência, depois do aparecimento de uma onda de roubos similares na região. Tudo extremamente bem feito, como queria o mestre Hitch. TC Cult. Hitchcok’s masterpiece, among others. The French Riviera scenario can not surpass Grace Kelly’s beauty – she lihgts up every photogram she is in. Cary Grant is one of those actors who make no effort to perform – here, it is enough for him to be Cary Grant to do the job. In this mixture of comedy and suspense, he is a retired thief who wants to prove his innocence after being suspected of returning to his former occupation. Everything is perfect under the watchful eye of Mr. Hitchcock. TC Cult.

3471 - O TALENTOSO MR. RIPLEY

Gwyneth Paltrow, Jude Law e Matt Damon

   O TALENTOSO RIPLEY (THE TALENTED MR. RIPLEY, USA, 2000) - The Talented Mr. Ripley—based on the novel by Patricia Highsmith of the same name and directed by the late, acclaimed Anthony Minghella—follows the emotionally fraught sociopath, Tom, who nurses a dangerous obsession with Dickie, a blue-blooded American playboy taking it easy in Italy with his high society girlfriend, Marge.  A first-rate, sumptuously photographed modern thriller, The Talented Mr. Ripley features fantastic performances by its stars and supporting players, including a young Cate Blanchett and Philip Seymour Hoffman. Universally praised and awarded upon its release, its tense and criminally stylish thrills have only improved with age.

3470 - O HOMEM QUE SABIA DEMAIS

James Stewart e Doris Day

1     O HOMEM QUE SABIA DEMAIS (THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH, USA, 1956) – Além do requinte de ter no título uma oração subordinada adjetiva, esta obra-prima de Alfred Hitchcock é um prazer do princípio ao fim. James Stewart está mais que à vontade no papel do médico que, de posse de um segredo, tem que se virar para encontrar o filho sequestrado em Marrocos. Doris Day está muito bem no papel, apesar de cantar a torturante “Que será, será” já no fim do filme. A grande cena é o concerto em que Bernard Hermann aparece regendo – são 12 minutos sem diálogo e com o suspense crescendo durante as 120 tomadas de câmera do mestre. No mais, a tipificação tradicional dos americanos bons e dos bandidos egressos de países subdesenvolvidos – basta ver as feições lombrosianas do assassino da vez. Um dos cinco grandes filmes de Alfred Hitchcock. TC Cult. Having a subordinate adjective clause is a touch of class in this Hitchcock’s masterpiece, a pleasure from beginning to the end. James Stewart is comfortable on the role of a doctor who is told a secret and has to cope with the kidnap of his son in Morocco. Doris Day has a satisfactory performance, despite the torturing “Whatever will be will be” that she sings near the end of the movie. The great sequence is the concert in the Albert Hall, in which Bernard Hermann can be seen conducting the orchestra, during 12 minutes without any dialogue and 120 takes. All and all, we have the traditional stereotypes of the “good American” and the bad people from underdeveloped countries – enough to say the Lombrosian features of the hitman. One of the five top Hitch’s movies. TC Cult.   

3469 - HUNTERS (TEMPORADA 1)

Al Pacino, magistral, como sempre

      HUNTERS (USA, 2020) – Al Pacino é obrigatório. Neste seriado da Prime, ele está mais visceral e emocionante como nunca, na pele do líder de um grupo de sobreviventes do Holocausto que rastreia criminosos de guerras abrigados nos EUA, graças a Operação Paperclip, processo de cooptação pelos americanos de cientistas alemães após a II Guerra. A partir da primeira sequência do episódio um, primorosa no ritmo e na violência, a atmosfera tarantinesca se apresenta. É uma série imperdível, principalmente por causa da atual ascensão da extrema direita, do clima de leniência e mesmo de encorajamento que hoje beneficia o ódio e o racismo, do ressurgimento do antissemitismo, da infiltração dos ideólogos do neofascismo nos governos e instituições, como infelizmente acontece no Brasil. É para lavar a alma. Além disso, Al Pacino faz tudo valer a pena. Al Pacino is obligatory. It is a priceless gift as Al Pacino makes everything worth seeing.

       NOIVO NERVOSO, NOIVA NEURÓTICA (ANNIE HALL, USA, 1977) - Not only is Annie Hall the most experimental best picture win the Oscar – it also features an entire section dedicated to viciously roasting the shallowness of awards show culture. Before Annie Hall, Woody Allen was a joke-scribbler and standup and talk show guest who made small, oddball comedies that, while brilliant, were hardly known for rich character development. His previous film, Love and Death, dumped his classic neurotic New Yorker persona into a plot to assassinate Napoleon. (If you haven’t seen it, you really must.) After Annie Hall he emerged as the lovechild of Chaplin and Bergman and Buñuel by way of Philip Roth, and one of the greatest artists in the history of cinema. Lewis pressionado pelos executivos

       O OTÁRIO (THE PATSY, USA,1964) – O interessante deste filme – além de ter sido o último de Peter Lorre – é que Jerry Lewis faz uma crítica à construção dos ídolo pelo showbiz sem que haja qualquer preocupação com parâmetros éticos. Ele faz o papel de um funcionário de hotel que é escolhido por um grupo de executivos de Hollywood para substituir um comediante famoso morto num desatre de avião. A partir daí, o filme se ocupa de suas gags geniais, mas, ao mesmo tempo, vão construindo uma narrativa sobre a forma artificial de que as carreiras no showbiz são construídas, sempre objetivando o lucro a qualquer custo – mesmo que seja a destruição da personalidade de um homem comum. O final escolhido por Lewis – diretor e roteirista do filme – é uma jogada de mestre. O elenco conta com várias estrelas da época. TC Cult. What is interesting about this movie – besides being Peter Lorre’s last performance – is that Jerry Lewis made a critical view of how the showbiz builds the idol without any concern about ethics. In this movie, he is a hotel clerk who is chosen by a group of Hollywood executives to replace a comedian who died in a plane crash. From this point on. The movie is all about his ingenious gags. However, at the same time, he builds a narrative about how artificial carrers on Hollywood are made, always aiming at profit at any cost. The ending Lewis picked up, as the director and screenwriter, is a master play. TC Cult.

Irrfan Khan, excepcional...

      TALVAR (Índia, 2015) - Irrfan Khan, que morreu esta semana, era um ator extraordinário. Representava no aspecto profundo dos seus personagens, se concentrando muito mais no detalhe do que no plano geral dos seus personagens, sempre complexos, mas extremamente humanos nas suas intenções. Veja o irretocável LUNCHBOX e comprove seu talento. Em TALVAR, ele é um policial que investiga o assassinato de uma adolescente. A acusação recai sobre um empregado da casa e sobre os pais da menina. A direção é criativa e o elenco é sensacional. Netflix. Irrfan Khan, who died this week, was an extraordinary actor. His focus was the most profound aspect of his characters, shedding more lights on the detail than in the context. Watch the great LUNCHBOX an see what I mean. In TALVAR he is a police officer who investigates the murder of an adolescent. An employee of the house and the girl’s parents are accused. The direction is creative and the cast is nothing less than sensational. Netflix.

Morgan Freeman e Clive Owen - obrigatórios

        OS ÚLTIMOS CAVALEIROS (LAST KNIGHTS, USA, 2015) – Clive Owen e Morgan Freeman: obrigatórios. A excelente fotografia é destaque e ajuda a pouca originalidade da história, mas é a atuação enérgica de Owen que mantém o interesse até o desfecho previsível. Clive Owen and Morgan Freeman are obligatory. The excellent photography is a highlight and it helps the originality deficit of the story, but it is Owen’s gritty performance that keeps the interest until the end.
