CASTELO ASSOMBRADO (THE HAUNTED PALACE, USA, 1963) – Uma
das boas produções dirigidas por Roger Colman no seu ciclo com histórias de
Edgard Allan Poe, com o sempre excelente Vincent Price, outro obrigatório. Com baixo
orçamento, ótimas tramas e Vincent Price, Corman criou um legado importantíssimo
para a história do cinema. Este filme, na realidade, não é baseado em qualquer conto de Poe, mas possui toda a atmosfera característica do escritor americano. Atenção
para o memorável monólogo proferido por Price logo no início do filme. Que ator!
Ele ainda há de ter o reconhecimento merecido – é capaz de transformar qualquer
papel numa atuação brilhante, mesmo quando está fora de seu gênero fílmico: é
imperdível sua atuação num dos episódios de VIAGEM AO FUNDO DO MAR, em que ele
faz um titireteiro a bordo do Seaview (veja no YouTube “The Deadly Dolls,
quarta temporada). A bela Debra Paget também tem grande atuação. One of the good productions directed by Roger
Colman in his Edgard Allan Poe cycle, with the great Vincent Price, another obligatory
actor. With low budgets, great stories and Price, Corman has created an
important legacy to cinema history. This film is, actually, not based on a story
by Poe, but it possesses the entire atmosphere that characterizes de American
writer. Attention to the remarkable monologue performed by Price at the beginning
of the movie. What an actor! A deserved tribute is still due to him – he is
able to transform any role into an outstanding performance, even when he is out
of his filmic realm: his interpretation in one of the VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF
THE SEA episodes is unmissable, in which he plays a puppet master on board of
the Seaview (see on YouTube “The Deadly Dolls”, 4th season). Debra
Paget has also a terrific performance.
