VIVER DUAS VEZES (VIVIR DOS VECES, Espanha, 2019) – Raramente um filme tratou com tanta delicadeza e sensibilidade questões tão profundamente humanas quanto trágicas em suas dimensões: o professor aposentado Emilio (o estupendo Oscar Martinez), já com indícios de Alzheimer, decide, com a ajuda da filha e da neta (a encantadora Mafalda Carbonell), procurar, depois de 60 anos, seu grande amor de infância, Margarita. Delicado, trágico, emocionante, engraçado, VIVER2X é um dos mais belos filmes dos últimos anos. Netflix. Rarely has a movie been so delicate and sensitive about the dimensions of some of the most tragic human questions: Emilio (the great Oscar Martinez), after being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, decides, with the help of his daughter and granddaughter (the enchanting Mafalda Carbonell), to find the love of his youth, Margarita. Delicate, touching, funny, this is one of the most beautiful movies in recent years. Netflix.     

3867 - OBSESSÃO (2018)

1.       OBSESSÃO (GRETA, USA, 2018) – Mais uma versão do filmes com o mesmo roteiro, agora dirigido por Neil Jordan. Chloë Grace Moretz tem boa atuação, mas não é o caso de Isabelle Huppert, sem qualquer conexão com o papel The movie is a modern spin on the familiar psycho thriller genre from director Neil Jordan. It is not original by any means, and never really goes beyond the expected. Everything that happens is well telegraphed and familiar from previous, better movies. However, the slow pacing becomes inevitably tedious.

 

3866 - ANNABELLE (2014)

1.       ANNABELLE (USA, 2014) – Essa prequela de A INVOCAÇÃO DO MAL é fraca e sem grandes momentos. A única curiosidade é a presença de outra Annabelle: Annabelle Wallis (sobrinha de Richard Harris) e o grande amor de Thomas Shelby, em PEAKY BLINDERS. Há uma clara referência aos personagens de O BEBÊ DE ROSEMERY (1968). This prequel of THE CONJUNRING is weak and uninspiring. The only curiosity is another Annabelle: Annabelle Wallis (Richard Harris’ niece) and Thomas Shelby’s great love in PEAKY BLINDERS. There are references to THE ROSEMARY’s BABY (1968). The plot is creepy in few moments only and never engaging. The story is weak but the performances and the cinematography are decent.

 

3865 - MUNDOS OPOSTOS (2012)

1.       MUNDOS OPOSTOS (UPSIDE DOWN, USA, 2012) – Versão sci-fi do FEITIÇO DE ÁQUILA, com pitadas de ELYSIUM, o filme do argentino Juan Solanas mostra o romance entre Jim Sturgess e Kirsten Dunst, ele vivendo na parte pobre de um mundo invertido, e ela, na superior. CGIs adequados ao clima futurista de um filme essencialmente romântico, cuja protagonista (Dunst) em nada contribui para estabelecer empatia com os espectadores. Sturgess é uma versão renovada de John Cusack. Sci-fi version of LADYHAWKE, with some traits of ELYSIUM, the movie of the Argentinean director Juan Solanas displays the romance between Jim Sturgess and Kirsten Dunst, the former living on the poor part of an inverted world, and the latter, on the superior side. Adequate CGIs to the futurist atmosphere of an essentially romantic movie, whose leading actress (Dunst) has nothing to contribute to establish empathy with the viewers. Sturgess is a younger version of John Cusack.  

 

3864 - VOO NOTURNO (2006)

 .       VOO NOTURNO (RED EYE, USA, 2005) – Wes Craven dirige esse thriller de suspense com Rachel McAdams e Cillian Murphy, numa trama em que ela, a bordo de um avião, se vê no meio de uma trama de assassinato. A evidente homenagem a Hitchcock é feita à perfeição. Perfeição, diga-se, é a palavra para Rachel – uma mulher tão linda e talentosa é um privilégio para qualquer público. Intense thriller from Wes Craven about a woman (Rachel McAdams) who boards a plan and soon finds herself in the middle of a political assassination. There's no doubt the film is paying homage to Hitchcock and for the most part is works really well. Perfection is the word to describe McAdams – such a beautiful and talented woman is a privilege for any audience to watch.  

 

3863 - A MENINA QUE MATOU OS PAIS (2019)

1.       A MENINA QUE MATOU OS PAIS (BRASIL, 2019) – Apesar dos aparentes esforços, os dois filmes estão muito aquém do planejado – mostrar a história do assassinato dos pais de Suzanne Richthofen. Tudo ruim. Despite the efforts, both movies did not get anywhere in trying to tell the story of the murder of Suzanne Richthofen’s parents. Everything fails.   

3862 - JAGUAR - TEMPORADA 1 (2021)

       JAGUAR – TEMPORADA 1 (JAGUAR, Espanha, 2021) – Esta série está ligada ao documentário O HOMEM MAIS PERIGOSO DA EUROPA (Netflix), porque mostra a caçada que um grupo de sobreviventes dos campos de concentração da WW2 ao nazista Otto Skorzeny. No entanto, a produção não é boa, e o elenco fraco também não ajuda. This series is linked to the documentary EL HOMBRE MÁS PELIGROSO DE EUROPA. It is about a group of survivors of the Mauthausen camp, hunting the Nazi Otto Skorzeny. However, the production is not good, and the weak cast does not help to improve anything.  

 

 

3861 - PEAKY BLINDERS - TEMPORADA 5 (2019)

        PEAKY BLINDERS, TEMPORADA 5 (UK, 2019) - Throughout the series, it is established that Tommy has been suffering from PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) since the events of World War I, which worsened with time and his close encounters with death and alcohol. Things turn for worse, when he starts hallucinating about Grace Shelby, his wife, who died tragically in season 3 and sort of blamed Tommy for her fate. So, it appears that she has now returned to take Tommy with him and coaxes him to end his life on multiple occasions. That’s what is left in the last scene.  

 

3860 - SEINFELD - TEMPORADA 1 (1989)

      SEINFELD, TEMPORADA 1 (USA, 1989) – Spielberg tinha razão, ao tentar relaxar das filmagens de A LISTA DE SCHINDLER assistindo a SEINFELD – mesmo com uma primeira temporada curta (5 episódios), já era possível ver as linhas mestras de um programa que fez história no universo pop da TV. Destaque para o episódio THE MALE UNBONDING, em que Jerry evita encontrar com um antigo conhecido por não ter mais nada em comum com ele. Spielberg was right when, trying to relax from THE SCHINDLER’S LIST, watching SEINFELD – even with a short first season (5 episodes), it was already possible to notice the guidelines of one of the most successful shows in the pop TV universe. The highlight is the episode THE MALE UNBONDING, in which Jerry tries various excuses to avoid meeting with an old friend with whom he no longer shares any interests.

 

3859 - JUDAS E O MESSIAS NEGRO (2020)

        JUDAS E O MESSIAS NEGRO (JUDAS AND THE BLACK MESSIAH, USA, 2020) - The movie narrates the last year or so in the life of Fred Hampton, the chairman of the Panthers' Illinois chapter. He was only 21 when he was killed in 1969 by Chicago police during a raid on his apartment that was planned with the FBI. Two great actors, Daniel Kaluuya and LaKeith Stanfield are simply outstanding in their roles. Hampton, played here by an electrifying Daniel Kaluuya, is the portrait of a young man's gift for inspiring other activists and his ferocious critique of the nation's white power structure.

 

3858 - A MÁSCARA DO ZORRO (1999)

      A MÁSCARA DO ZORRO (THE MASK OF ZORRO, USA, 1999) – Neste filme, Catherine Zeta-Jones está tão bonita, que poderia ser o único motivo para rever essa produção, em cujo elenco também estão Anthony Hopkins e Antonio Banderas. Hopkins é sempre superlativo em qualquer papel, e Banderas cumpre com louvor o icônico papel do vingador. Mas é Catherine Zeta-Jones que fica na nossa memória. Michael Douglas estava certo: é uma mulher para toda a vida. In this movie, Catherine Zeta-Jones is so beautiful that she could be the only reason to watch this movie, whose cast brings also Anthony Hopkins and Antonio Banderas. Hopkins is always superlative in any role, and Banderas is ok in the role of the fox. However, it is Catherine Zeta-Jones who lingers in our memory. Michael Douglas was right: she is a woman to love forever. 

 

3857 - MIGLIACCIO, UM BRASILEIRO EM CENA (2021)

MIGLIACCIO, UM BRASILEIRO EM CENA (BRASIL, 2021) – Documentário sobre a vida e a carreira de FM, um ator com uma dimensão tragicômica que o acompanhou até fim. É emocionante vê-lo dizer, com toda dignidade, que nunca recusou um papel na vida, pois isso seria trair o desejo do público de assisti-lo. Documentary about FM’s life and career – he was a tragicomic actor till the end. It is inspiring to know that he never refused a role in his life, for this would have been a betrayal to the public.   

 

  

3856 - O MENINO DO PIJAMA LISTRADO (2008)

       O MENINO DO PIJAMA LISTRADO (THE BOY IN THE STRIPED PAJAMAS, USA, UK, 2008) – O tema do filme é o horror nazista visto pelos olhos de Bruno, um menino de 8 anos, e sua amizade com Shmuel, da mesma idade, preso num campo de concentração vizinho à sua casa. Bruno tem tudo – uma bela casa, brinquedos, luxo e a mãe mais linda que alguém poderia ter: Vera Farmiga. Shmuel é o retrato do abandono e da falta de liberdade, o que não impede um laço fraterno indestrutível entre os dois. Prepare a caixa de Kleenex. The movie is about the Nazi horror from the point of view of an eight-year-boy, Bruno, who befriends Shmuel, of the same age, a prisoner in a concentration camp near his house. Bruno has everything – a nice house, toys, and the most beautiful mother one could have: Vera Farmiga. Shmuel is the portrait of abandon and lack of liberty, which does not prevent the indestructible fraternal bond between them two. Provide a Kleenex box.  

 

3855 - O CALOURO (1925)

O CALOURO (THE FRESHMAN, USA, 1925) – Esse é considerado o primeiro filme produzido sobre esportes – sempre uma empreitada difícil, e mostra um rapaz do interior (Harold Lloyd) ingressando na faculdade e se tornando popular (sempre a vaidade) para conquistar a mulher de seus sonhos (quem nunca?). Lloyd continua a explorar sua persona ingênua e de bom coração, estabelecendo um padrão seguido por comédias similares, numa linha mais urbana do que Chaplin. De toda forma, Lloyd foi o comediante mais exitoso de sua época, juntamente com Chaplin e Keaton. Silvério eu eu somos seus maiores fãs. Credited as being the first sports movie produced (always a hard deed), the script shows country boy Lloyd going to college and, after many comic tribulations, saving the day with the winning touchdown at the big game and winning the girl of his dreams. This was one of the comedian's most popular films. Lloyd keeps on exploring his naïve persona, establishing a pattern followed by similar productions, in more urbane line than Chaplin’s. All and all, Lloyd was the most successful comedian of his time, along with Chaplin and Keaton. Silvério and I are among his biggest enthusiasts. 

3854 - OS AMANTES PASSAGEIROS (2013)

Blanca Suárez, a verdadeira razão

 .       OS AMANTES PASSAGEIROS (LOS AMANTES PASAJEROS, Espanha, 2013) – Esse filme de Almodóvar está repleto de suas costumeiras referências, embora não seja uma de suas melhores criações. A única razão de voltar a esse filme é a presença de Blanca Suárez – ela é linda, mas sem grandes recursos dramáticos, o que se confirmou na sua atuação na série da Netflix, JAGUAR, onde interpreta uma caçadora de nazistas. This Almodóvar’s movie is fraught with his usual references, tought it is not one of his best works. The only reason to watch this movie again is Blanca Suárez – she is gorgeous, but not so ambitious in dramatic skills, which is confirmed in her performance in the Netflix series JAGUAR, where she is a Nazi hunter.   

 

3853 - OBAMA: IN PURSUIT OF A MORE PERFECT UNION (2021)

       OBAMA EM BUSCA DE UMA UNIÃO PERFEITA (OBAMA IN PURSUIT OF A MORE PERFECT UNION, USA, 2021) - This documentary is not about Obama explaining himself, and in its best passages, it is not about overtly praising him. Rather, it’s about analyzing his essential strategy in becoming a symbol as the first Black president, knowingly having to carry the conversation of race to each campaign stop, and then to the White House. “Obama: In Pursuit of a More Perfect Union” is a comprehensive and compelling analysis about a particularly vital aspect of Obama’s legacy.
