GODZILLA: KING OF THE
MONSTERS (USA, 2019) – Frustrante. Nem de longe se
compara à introdução do monstro no cenário da cultura pop, no filme produzido
pela Toho, visto pela primeira vez em 1954. Nem ao realmente fantástico SHIN
GODZILLA (Japão, 1916), a melhor versão moderna do gigantesco lagarto mutante que
eu já vi. Neste REI DOS MONSTROS, o roteiro é ridículo, os CGIs são sofríveis,
tudo é péssimo e confuso. Os dramas banais dos personagens (há sempre um
conflito familiar a ser resolvido no meio da trama), a fotografia tão escura
que irrita ainda mais quem tem a paciência de acompanhar a história e o desperdício
da talentosa Millie Bobby Brown (a encantadora Eleven, de STRANGER THINGS) num
personagem inane contribuem para uma decepção tão gigantesca quanto as
criaturas do filme. Frustrating.
Not even close to the first introduction of the monster to the pop culture
scenario, in the Toho production of 1954. Nor can it be compared to the fantastic
SHIN GODZILLA (Japan, 1916), the best modern version of the behemoth mutant lizard
I have ever seen. In KING OF THE MONSTERS, the plot is ridiculous, the CGIs are
poor, and everything is lousy and confused. The banal dramas of the characters
(there is always a familiar conflict to be solved), the photography so dark that
it irks anyone who is patient enough to follow the story to the end, and the waste
of the talented Millie Bobby Brown (the lovely Eleven, from STRANGER THINGS)
contribute to frustration as massive as the creatures of the film.
