4518 - THE GRIETAS DE JARA (2018)

 LAS GRIETAS DE JARA (Argentina, 2018) – Thriller como o grande Oscar Martinez e Soledad Villamil (O Segredo de seus Olhos). O roteiro tem algumas pontas soltas, com situações inconclusas (a filha e a esposa de Pablo poderiam ser excluídas da história e ninguém perceberia). O desfecho críptico dá uma sensação de que o potencial da trama não foi devidamente explorado. Nice performances, especially Oscar Martinez and Joaquin Furriel (Pablo). The real problem lies on the missing coherence: moral problems, a beautiful young woman without a real specific place, the honest guy lost in the middle of a crime. The film could be developed in a more careful way.

 THE BIG BANG THEORY – TEMP 4 – 24 EPISÓDIOS (USA, 2010) – Alguns episódios em destaque: o segundo, The Cruciferous Vegetable Amplification, é um clássico – nele, Sheldon quer viver para sempre e se transforma num robot.; The Thespian Catalyst, episódio 14, em que Sheldon tem aulas de teatro com Penny; no episódio 21, The Agreement Dissection, Penny Amy e Bernadette levam Sheldon a uma boate, depois que Prya descobre algumas brechas no Roomate Agreement entre ele e Leonard; no episódio 22, The Wildbeest Implementation, Sheldon inventa um jogo de xadrez para três pessoas e Raj testa uma nova droga para sua ansiedade social. O relacionamento de Leonard e Prya parece um pouco artificial e só funciona para aumentar a tensão entre ele e Penny. De fato, houve um redimensionamento da relação entre os dois, o que deveria trazer Leonard para um amadurecimento emocional prejudicado por sua relação com Prya – afinal, se ela o deixou para voltar para a Índia, o renascimento da sua relação com Penny pareceu ficar dependente disso. Injusto com Penny, a meu ver. Some episodes are great: the Cruciferous Vegetal Amplification is a classic – Sheldon wants to live forever and has his consciousness transferred to a robotic form. The Shelbot is such a wonderful plot element because it is so perfectly a Sheldon thing.

O PILOTO: UMA BATALHA PELA SOBREVIVÊNCIA (LETCHIK, Rússia, 2021) - During a mission in WWII, the plane of Nikolai Komlev is shot down. He manages to bring his plane down in a remote forest clearing, but far from friendly territory, he faces a relentless test of physical and mental endurance. The performances were decent and mostly convincing, but the cinematography was the standout feature, as it was excellent. This WWII movie is superbly made, with great cinematography and superb aerial effects. Prime.

O JULGAMENTO DE NUREMBERG (NUREMBERG, USA, 2000) – Minissérie mostrando didaticamente a constituição do tribunal internacional responsável pela condenação dos 24 criminosos nazistas. Brian Cox está perfeito como Göering, retratando-o como vaidoso e manipulador, apesar de se mostrar simpático em diversas ocasiões. Alec Baldwin é o promotor Robert Jackson, indicado por Roosevelt e, na série, tem um romance com sua secretária, uma imprecisão histórica justificada apenas como uma atração narrativa. Miniseries showing didactically the preparations of the trial for crimes against humanity. Brian Cox is perfect as Goring, portraying him as vain and manipulator, despite his flamboyant behavior on several occasions. Alec Baldwin is promoter Robert Jackson, indicated by Roosevelt and, in the series, has an affair with his secretary, a historical imprecision only justified as a narrative attraction. NA LINHA DE FOGO (IN THE LINE OF FIRE,USA, 1993) – Clint Eastwood é obrigatório. NLF ainda é um bom thriller, dirigido com competência por Wolfgang Petersen. Clint é Frank Corrigan um veterano agente do Serviço Secreto remanescente da equipe de Kennedy no dia do seu assassinato, ainda traumatizado por acreditar ter falhado na proteção do presidente. O personagem é baseado em Clint Hill. John Malkovich é um psicopata que resolve explorar o sentimento de culpa de Corrigan e está perfeito como um sádico infantilizado obcecado por ele. Atenção para a cena de Clint lembrando do dia da morte de Kennedy – um dos raros momentos em sua cinebiografia em que ele se emociona em um filme. Rene Russo está mal escalada, mas Clint arrasa nas cenas tocando piano. Clint Eastwood is mandatory. ITLF is a good thriller, competently      directed by Wolfgang Petersen. Clint é Frank Corrigan is a veteran Secret Service agent who feels guilty of Kennedy’s death on November 22^nd 1963. The character is based on Clint Hill. John Malkovich is psychopath that manipulates Corrigan’s guilty and he is perfect as a childish killer obsessed with him. Attention to the scene in which Clint recalls Kennedy’s assassination and cries – a rare moment in his career. Rene Russo is miscast, but Clint rocks in the scenes playing piano. Prime.  

4513 - WALKING DEAD - DARYL DIXON - 13 EPISÓDIOS (2022)

 THE WALKING DEAD: DARYL DIXON – TEMP 1 – 13 EPISÓDIOS  (USA, 2023) – por mais estranho que possa parecer, Daryl Dixon acabou numa França pós-apocalíptica. É difícil acreditar que ele tenha atravdessado o Atlântico, mas isso isso é da natureza do showbiz. As locações são interessantes e, de certa forma, intrigante, especialmente depois de termos deixado para trás as estruturas pré apocalípticas de Atlanta. Daryl Dixon, strange as it seems, has ended up in post-apocalyptic France. It is hard to believe that the has floated across the Atlantic, but that’s showbiz. The setting and casting of the show look largely good, interesting and somewhat intriguing especially after have been removed from Atlanta, and its pre-apocalyptical structures. Prime.

THE OUTSIDER – 10 EPISÓDIOS (USA, 2022) – Apesar de bons atores como Ben Mendelsohn, Bill Camp e Jason Bateman, a minissérie fica monótona nos episódios intermediários. Os dois primeiros episódios, dirigidos por Bateman, são promissores, mas, depois, tudo se arrasta numa confusão angustiante. In spite of excellent actors like Ben Mendelsohn, Bill Camp and Jason Bateman, the miniseries gets dull in the subsequent episodes. First 2 episodes were very promising and intriguing, directed by Bateman who also performed as a main character. Then the next 8 episodes feel so long, dragging along the story with slow development and minor characters mixing it up. Prime.

4511 - MILLER'S GIRL (2024)

 

A GAROTA DE MILLER (MILLER’S GIRL, USA, 2024) – O filme com Jenna Ortega e Martin Freeman tem um roteiro meio “Lolita”, emulando um tipo de fantasia sombria cuja linguagem visual leva a uma atmosfera de mistério e desejo que acaba sendo uma mistura desapontadora de previsibilidade e monotonia. Há pouca química entre Ortega e Freeman, e isso compromete o resultado final repleto de clichês. De qualquer forma, é um filme sobre livros e textos – tem crédito, portanto. The movie with Jenna Ortega and Martin Freeman has a Lolita-esque script, emulating a kind of aristocrat dark fantasy whose visual language leads to an atmosphere of mystery and desire that ends up a disappointing mixture of predictability and lackluster storytelling. Ortega and Freeman lack chemistry and this compromises the final result fraught with clichés. Anyway, it is a movie about books and texts, and this is an important asset. Prime.

OPERAÇÃO CROSSBOW (USA, 1965) - Movie's basic outline concerns the development of the German V-1 and V-2 weapons and the subsequent allied attempt to infiltrate the underground factories at Peenemünde, where most of these these so-called `Vergeltungswaffen' ('revenge' weapons) were assembled. This movie is based on historical events, as the character of Hannah Reitsch, played by Barbara Rütting , was a real-life person. Reitsch was a German aviatrix and Adolf Hitler's personal pilot at one time. During the Battle of Berlin, Reitsch attempted to persuade Hitler to escape from the city in a small lightweight Fieseler Storch airplane. George Peppard and Sophia Loren almost get together, which is no spoiler. Looke.

O DOSSIÊ DE ODESSA (THE ODESSA FILE, UK, 1974) – Filme obrigatório para quem é interessado na caça de nazistas pós WW2. O pai de Angelina e um repórter atrás de um criminoso de guerra, Eduard Roschmann, comandante do gueto de Riga. O livro e o filme provocaram a caça ao real Roschmann e ao seu assassinato no Paraguai, onde estava homiziado. Voight está convincente e Maximilian Schell convence como o sádico açougueiro Roschmann. Mandatory movie for those who are interested in Nazi hunt post WW2. Angelina’s father to be (she would be born two years later) is a reporter chasing a war criminal, Eduard Roschmann, commander of the Riga gueto. The book and the movie caused the hunt for the real Roschmann and his posterior assassination in Paraguay, where he was hidden. Voight was convincing as a German being blond and blue eyed and Maximilian Schell delivers a powerful performance as the arrogant and sadistic butcher Roschmann. Looke.

4508 - PAM E TOMMY - 8 EPISÓDIOS (2022)

 

PAM & TOMMY – 8 EPISÓDIOS - (USA, 2022) - A minissérie conta o famoso caso da fita roubada da lua de mel dos dois. Lily James e o soldado invernal Sebastian Stan fazem à perfeição as personalidades esfuziantes dos dois protagonistas. Vê-se como a internet engatinhava numa época em que a indústria pornô começava a tomar conta do ambiente virtual. Diante do que acontece hoje, o escândalo da fita roubada seria monetizado e, provavelmente, levaria Pamela Anderson e Tommy Lee a entrar no OnlyFans, sem qualquer laivo de pudicícia. Seth Rogen interpreta (!) o ladrão da fita e é uma figura nojenta em todos os sentidos. The mini series gives an account of the stolen tape of Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee. Lily James and the Winter Soldier Sebastian Stan are perfect as the sparkling couple. It is possible to see how the internet crawled at a time in which the porno industry started to dominate the virtual environment. Compared to what is seen today, the scandal would be monetized and Pam and Tommy would probably be on OnlyFans without any thread of pudency. Seth Rogen plays the tape thief and is a disgusting image in all senses. Disney Plus.

O FAZ NADA – 5 EPISÓDIOS - (NADA, Argentina, 2023) – Mais uma jóia do cinema argentino, com Luis Brandoni e a presença insólita de Robert De Niro. Brandoni é um crítico gastronômico solitário, cuja empregada de 40 anos, de quem era totalmente dependente, morre e o deixa literalmente sem saber fazer nada, até ele contratar uma jovem paraguaia para substituí-la e, inesperadamente, provocar nele uma mudança profunda. É exatamente a atuação delicada e emocionante de Brandoni o grande destaque da história. Robert De Niro, no seu primeiro papel recorrente numa produção para TV, acrescenta um traço inusitado e poético, na relação fraterna com o personagem de Brandoni. Another gem from the Argentinean cinema, with Luis Brandoni and the unexpected presence of Robert De Niro. Brandoni is a lonely gastronomic critic whose housekeeper on whom he was totally dependent suddenly dies and leaves him literally incapable of doing anything until he hires a Paraguayan woman to replace her and, unexpectedly, cause him to change deeply. It is Brandoni’s delicate and touching performance the highlight of the story. Robert De Niro, in his first recurrent role on TV, adds a poetic trait to his brotherly relationship with Brandoni’s character. Disney Plus.  

4506 - PODER ABSOLUTO (1997)

 

PODER ABSOLUTO (ABSOLUTE POWER, USA, 1997) – Clint Eastwood é obrigatório. Neste interessante thriller político, apesar de algumas implausibilidades do roteiro, ele traz alguns pontos para reflexão: a relação pai e filha (aqui a dele com Laura Linney), o valor das obras de arte, a arrogância do poder político (Gene Hackman como presidente mulherengo dos EUA), a ineficiência do Serviço Secreto americano, o sentido de justiça diluído nas artimanhas palacianas. Clint Eastwood is mandatory. In this interesting political thriller, in spite some implausible situations of the script, he brings some points to be discussed: father and daughter relationship (here his with Laura Linney), the value of art, the arrogance of the political power (Gene Hackman as the womanizing president of the USA), the inefficiency of the American Secret Service, the sense of justice lost in the clogs of the power. The film was professionally performed and directed by Clint Eastwood. It has some flaws and gaps; but it's nevertheless solidly agreeable. Prime.      

4505 - O CLÃ (2015)

O CLÃ (EL CLAN, Argentina, 2015) – Para ficar bem claro: Guillermo Francella é obrigatório. Neste drama histórico argentino, ele está perfeito como um homem de família responsável por sequestros nos anos 80. A crítica política e social perpassa a história de como a maldade e o ressentimento podem produzir monstruosidades revestidas de valores altamente questionáveis durante a ditadura militar comandada por Galtieri. Just to make it clear: Guillermo Francella is mandatory. In this Argentinean historical drama, eh eis perfect as a family man in charge of kidnaps in the 80s. the political and social criticism is present in a story of how evil and resentment can lead to monstrosities disguised in highly questionable values during the military dictatorship of Galtieri. Disney Plus. 

     

4504 - ENTRANDO NUMA FRIA MAIOR AINDA (2004)

 ENTRANDO NUMA FRIA MAIOR AINDA (MEET THE FOCKERS, USA, 2004) – Sequência bem inferior ao filme original, com gags forçadas e elenco preguiçoso, apesar do elenco de primeira linha. O redirecionamnto do eixo Stiller-DeNiro deu lugar a uma dinâmica inconvincente entre Dustin Hoffman e Barbra Streisand. There were a couple of slapstick scenes in the film that I still laugh at after numerous viewings and much of the interaction rang true between Stiller and DeNiro. Nothing really rings true in Meet The Fockers, as the conflict between Stiller and DeNiro is replaced by Greg Focker's zany parents, played by Dustin Hoffman and Barbra Streisand. Hoffman and Streisand play likable enough characters but don't seem too likely to have raised a kid like Greg. Ben Stiller repeats his Along Came Polly/There's Something About Mary/Meet The Parents persona, but he gets shoved to the background in favor of Hoffman and Streisand, which costs the film big.

4503 - TARZAN CONTRA O MUNDO (1942)

TARZAN CONTRA O MUNDO (TARZAN’S NEW YORK ADVENTURE, USA, 1942) -Último filme da série protagonizada por Johnny Weissmuller e Maureen O’Sullivan que, por sinal, ganha fácil o concurso de “Jane mais bonita” do cinema. Aqui, Tarzan vai a Nova York atrás de Boy, sequestrado para ser exibido num circo. O choque cultural é explorado com certo comedimento, e isso, de certa forma, dá uma dimensão de realidade ao herói, no cotejo das duas selvas, no qual a de pedra é muito mais perigosa. Last Johnny Weissmuller and Maureen O’Sullivan’s moviesfor MGM. By the way, Maureen O’Sullivan easily wins “The Most Beautiful Jane” award. Here, Tarzan goes to NY in search for Boy, kidnapped to be exposed in a circus. The cultural clash is moderately exploited and this, in a way, provides the hero a dimension of reality, when the two jungles are compared, being the stone one much more dangerous. Looke.
