3617 - AS CURVAS DA VIDA (2012)

       CURVAS DA VIDA (THE TROUBLE WITH THE CURVE, USA, 2012) – Esportes nem sempre dão certo em filmes. Aqui, o assunto, aparentemente, é sobre beisebol, mas o cerne da história é a relação estremecida de um viúvo mal-humorado, Gus (Clint Eastwood) com sua filha, Mickey (Amy Adams), uma advogada. É emocionante a forma pela qual os dois vão se descobrindo, afastando os fantasmas e os traumas, até conseguirem um entendimento modificador de suas vidas. Pena que o ótimo John Goodman tenha tido um papel tão pequeno. Justin Timberlake cumpre sua função de contrapartida amorosa para Mickey, sem convencer muito, embora seja um ator razoável (e ter começado no Mickey Mouse Club). Só para constar: Amy Adams nunca esteve tão bonita. E. claro, Clint é obrigatório. Sports are never right in movies. Here, baseball is allegedly the main theme, but the real thing is the estranged relationship between a grumpy widower, Gus (Clint Eastwood) and his daughter, Mickey (Amy Adams), a lawyer. It is really touching the way both of them get to know each other, pushing the ghosts and the traumas away, until they manage to get a modifying understanding in their lives. It a pity that the great John Goodman (also a good actor) has had a minor role. Justin Timberlake unconvincedly fulfills the task of being Mickey’s loving counterpart, despite the fact he took part in the Mickey Mouse Club). Just for the record: Amy Adams has never been so gorgeous. Moreover, Clint Eastwood is obligatory.

  DESOBEDIÊNCIA (DESOBEDIENCE, USA, Inglaterra, Irlanda, 2018) – O belo filme do diretor chileno Sebastián Lelio retrata um triângulo amoroso na comunidade judaica ortodoxa de Londres diante do dilema entre regras de conduta e aspirações pessoais. Rachel Weisz é Ronit, uma fotógrafa que volta a Londres para o funeral do pai e reencontra Dovid (Alessandro Nivola) e Esti (Rachel McAdams), amigos antes inseparáveis. A partir daí, o estranhamento entre os três vai gradualmente crescendo, até que suas verdades emergem incontrolável e dolorosamente. A direção de Sebastián Lelio foge das soluções fáceis, para mostrar como três pessoas divididas entre seus sonhos e convicções finalmente se veem como realmente são. HBO. Sebastián Lelio’s beautiful film portrays a love triangle in the Jewish orthodox community in London in the middle of a dilemma between behavior rules and personal yearnings. Rachel Weisz is Ronit, a photographer back in London for her father’s funeral and meets former inseparable old friends Dovid (Alessandro Nivola) and Esti (Rachel McAdams). From this point on, the hostility among them gradually escalates until their true sides emerge in a uncontrollable and painful way. The movie avoids easy solutions to display how three divided persons show themselves as they really are. HBO.

UMA MULHER FANTÁSTICA (UNA MUJER FANTÁSTICA, CHILE, 2017) – O filme do diretor Sebastián Lelio (do ótimo DESOBEDIÊNCIA, comentado abaixo) é sobre uma mulher transgênera (Daniela Vega) e seu sofrimento depois da morte de seu namorado: atacada pela família dele, ela enfrenta uma imensa solidão e um sofrimento amplificado pelo preconceito. Primeiro filme chileno a ganhar o Oscar de Melhor Filme Estrangeiro. Belíssimo filme. Prime. Sebastián Lelio’s movie (he is also the director of the great DESOBEDIENCE) is about a transgender woman who experiences the painful loss of her love: attacked by his family, she has to face loneliness and an amplified pain due to prejudice. First Chilean movie to win an Academy Award for Best Foreign Film. Great movie! Prime.
