HOMENS DE PRETO (MEN IN BLACK, USA,1997) – No cotejo, esse primeiro filme é bem superior às sequências, seja pela originalidade, seja pelos ainda bons efeitos especiais. Exquisite special effects help to bring the aliens in MIB to life, and they have as much character as the duo in black, Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones, and they get just as many laughs. The film carries a good plot and is entertaining from the opening scene; which sets the tone of the film nicely, and makes you yearn for some more.

Eastwood, grandíssimo!

      A MULA (THE MULE, USA, 2018) – Clint Eastwood é obrigatório. Sua capacidade de contar os fatos lentamente, cativando o espectador, é soberba. Ele não tem pressa para contar uma história, e é exatamente isso que o torna um dos maiores diretores de todos os tempos. A MULA é um filme sensível, emocionante e profundo nas suas premissas, como toda a obra do pai da bela Alison, que também está no elenco. No one does a slow burn better than Mr. Eastwood. His cinematography, lighting and ambience develops slowly... he's in no hurry to tell his story and that's what makes him such a great storyteller. FOXY BROWN (USA, 1974) – Os filmes deste período do blaxploitation são simplesmente sensacionais. Principalmente quando Pam Grier está no elenco. É impressionante como ela consegue, sozinha, transformar um filme ruim em um clássico e qualquer espectador em seu admirador instantaneamente. Em COFFY (1973), Pam se tornou um símbolo da mulher negra em plena tensão racial. The blaxpoitation movies are awesome. Especially when Pam Grier is in the cast. Impressively, she can, alone, turn a bad movie into a classic and make any viewer a Pam addict. There's just something so compelling about her; tough, vulnerable, tender, and MEAN when she has to be. In 1973, the film "COFFY" made Pam Grier a star, a permanent icon of the blaxploitation films of the era, and a symbol of female empowerment in the face of racial tension.

  5 CAME BACK (USA, 2017) - 5 CAME BACK is an irresistibly watchable and ebullient celebration of five remarkable Hollywood studio directors – William Wyler, Frank Capra, George Stevens, John Ford and John Huston – who tackled the second world war head on. These were the patriotic idealists who put their talents to work on the frontline, creating enlightened propaganda for Uncle Sam. It is a romantic story in its way, although one that sometimes succumbs to its own need for derring-do and self-mythologizing. This film is the story of how these directors changed the war. It shows that some were all-American, some European émigrés or people with links to Europe and Britain, and so wanting to fight the fascists setting Europe ablaze. But it was the fact that they were movie directors that was important: they were natural leaders, autocratic and attuned to the field of battle. In that analogue age, movies were about marshalling huge numbers of people in actual spaces.
