Diante desta situação, os dois homens não têm escolha a não ser fazer acordos cujas consequências os afetarão profundamente. Destaque para Sara Giraudeau, como a esposa de François, num papel difícil, no qual ela passa soberbamente as emoções diante do comportamento alterado do marido na sua relação com o antigo patrão. PÁSSARO DO ORIENTE (EARTHQUAKE BIRD, USA, UK, Japan, 2019) – Curioso filme com Alicia Vikander, como uma tradutora trabalhando no Japão, Lucy, e se vê num triângulo amoroso com um fotógrafo e uma americana, Lily (Riley Keough, neta de Elvis). Apesar do roteiro previsível, a atuação da esposa de Michael Fassbender é perfeita – sutil, intensa, impressionante. Há uma referência à PERSONA, de Bergman, em algumas cenas com Lucy e Lily, quando seus rostos parecem se fundir, sugerindo uma conexão mais profunda entre os personagens. Curious movie with Alicia Vikander (Lucy) as a translator working in Japan, and is caught in a loving triangle with a photographer and an American, Lily (Riley Keough, Elvis’ granddaughter). Despite the predicable script, Michael Fassbender’s wife is flawless – subtle, intense, impressive. There is a reference to Bergman’s PERSONA, in some scenes with Lucy and Lily, when their faces appear to be merging into one face, implying that they are more connected than previously thought. Simone Spoladore e a solidão de Copacabana

LIVRO DOS PRAZERES(BRASIL, 2022) – Baseado na obra de Clarice Lispector, o filme de Marcela Lordy é sobre a solidão cósmica de Lori (Simone Spoladore), uma professora cuja esperança é preencher sua vida vazia e sem sentido com relacionamentos passageiros. Essa angústia é amplificada pela cidade grande, suas ruas vazias no meio da madrugada, pelas questões existenciais sem resposta. É aí que entra o professor de Filosofia argentino (Javier Drolas, quase impossível de entender) para, supostamente, mostrar o caminho dos verdadeiros sentimentos a Lori. Simone Spoladore está perfeita no papel. Based on Clarice Lispector’s work, Marcela Lordy’s movie is about Lori’s cosmic loneliness (Simone Spoladore), a teacher whose hope is to fulfill her empty and senseless life with transient relationships. This anguish is amplified by the big city, by its empty streets in the small hours, and by the unanswered existential questions. Then comes the Argentinean Philosophy teacher (Javier Drolas, almost impossible to understand) to supposedly show Lori the path of true feelings. Simone Spoladore is perfect on the role. SHADES OF BLUE – TEMP 3 – 10 EPISÓDIOS (SHADES OF BLUE, USA, 2018) – Depois de 36 episódios, SOB, na sua terceira temporada, chega ao fim. Jennifer Lopez continua angustiada e lindamente descabelada, na sua luta para prender o vilão da vez, Ramsey (Bruce McGill, o Jack de MAGYVER) e encontrar Stahl (Warren Kole), o agente federal apaixonado por ela (e ele não pode ser culpado por isso, não?). Apesar do roteiro um pouco arrastado (seria melhor condensado em metade dos episódios), a saga de Harlee (J-Lo) termina com fechamentos muito coerentes. After 36 episodes, SOB, in its third season, comes to an end. Jennifer Lopez is still anguished and with a beautifull messed up hair, is fighting to arrest the villain of the time, Ramsey (Bruce McGill, Jack from MACGYVER) and find Stahl (Warren Kole), the federal agent in love for her (and he can not be blamed for this, can he?). Despite the slow-burn script (half episodes would do the trick), Harlee’s saga ends with proper closures. Amazon Prime.

DUETTO (BRASIL, 2022) – Em 1965, Cora (Luisa Arraes) vai para a Itália com sua avó (Marieta Severo), depois da morte de seu pai em um acidente de carro. As histórias passadas na Itália me fascinam, pelo cenário, pelo clima e pelas pessoas – os italianos sempre têm o coração grande. Luisa Arraes tem tudo para ser uma estrela: é bonita, suave, tem os olhos tristes e um sorriso com múltiplas leituras – ela leva o filme dignamente, mas falta uma dimensão dramática maior em algumas sequências, especialmente quando contracena com a grandíssima Marieta. In 1965, Cora (Luisa Arraes) goes to Italy with her grandmother (Marieta Severo), after losing her father in a tragic car accident. The stories in Italy mesmerize me, for the scenery, for the climate and for the people – the Italians have a huge heart, inevitably. Luisa Arraes has everything to be a star: beautiful, nice, with sad eyes and a smile with multiple readings – she dignifiedly carries the movie, but she still lacks a bigger dramatic dimension in some sequences, especially when she shares the scenes with the great Marieta. OS TRÊS PATETAS EM ÓRBITA (THE THREE STOOGES IN ORBIT, USA, 1962) – A série de longas dos 3 Patetas, da qual este filme faz parte, ficou muito abaixo dos curtas que fizeram sua fama no mundo todo. Este filme tem seu valor afetivo para mim, mas o roteiro é fraco e os rapazes se esforçam para manter uma graça não mais existente. The series of Stooges movies, of which this edition is part, is way below the quality if the shorts that made their name. this movie has an emotional symbol for me, but the slow-paced humor and only a few good jokes aren't enough to sustain a 90 minutes film. The stooges try to do their best, but even the script doesn't help. DVD.

  AFTERSUN (USA, UK, 2022) – É difícil acreditar na ausência deste filme maravilhoso nas indicações do Oscar deste ano. A diretora e roteirista Charlotte Wells constrói uma visita lírica e emocionante às lembranças que Sophie (Frankie Corio) tem das férias passadas com seu pai, Calum (Paul Mescal), num hotel na Turquia, quando ela tinha 11 anos. Calum esconde seus segredos, talvez porque Sophie ainda é uma criança, a um passo da idade na qual ela começa a descobrir o mundo. Consciência tem várias leituras aqui – suas múltiplas camadas não estão nos diálogos, mas no sensível ritmo do filme, nas escolhas editoriais, na paciência e sensibilidade da abordagem de Wells. E, claro, na fantástica Frankie Corio – aos 11 anos, uma atriz perfeita, em todos os sentidos -, e em Paul Mescal, um ator superlativo, com um trabalho notável, na entrega e na composição de um pai amoroso diante do seu próprio abismo pessoal iminente. It is hard to believe that this movie is not nominated for this year’s Academy Awards. Director and writer Charlotte Wells builds a touching visit to the memories Sophie has of holidays spent with her father in a hotel in Turkey, with her father (Paul Mescal). There's something unknowable about Calum and maybe this is because Sophie is a child, and he's her dad, and she's just about coming to the age where she's separating herself and becoming her own person. Consciousness operates on multiple tracks and "Aftersun" understands this. The multi-level awareness is not in the dialogue, but it's there in the film's gentle rhythms, the editorial choices, the patience and sensitivity of Wells' approach. And, of course in Frankie Corio’s stunning performance – at 11, a perfect actress, in all senses -, and also in Paul Mescal, a superlative actor with a remarkable work in the delivery and composition of a loving father on the verge of his own personal abyss. O PÁLIDO OLHO AZUL (THE PALE BLUE EYE, USA, 2022) – Diretor dos ótimos CORAÇÃO LOUCO e OUT OF FURNACE, Scott Cooper realiza aqui um ótimo thriller policial, misturando suspense e literatura – afinal, não é sempre que Edgar Allan Poe é o personagem de uma trama na qual ele tem papel fundamental. Harry Melling (o Dudley Dursley, de HARRY POTTER) é a cara de Poe. E um filme com Christian Bale é quase impossível de dar errado. Além disso, a fotografia dos campos gelados de West Point é tão fascinante, que nem precisava de uma história para justificá-la. Bale é um detetive tentando desvendar a morte de um cadete de WP, e sua atuação, tão cheia de sofrimento, nos faz perguntar: cadê o Oscar desse sujeito? A propósito, o título vem de um dos versos do poema THE TELL-TALE HEART, de Poe. Director of the great CRAZY HEART and OUT OF FURNACE, Scott Cooper does a paramount job here with this cop thriller, mixing suspense and literature – after all, it is not common to see Edgar Allan Poe as a character of a plot in which he has a pivotal role. Harry Melling (Dudley Dursley from HARRY POTTER) is the spit image of Poe. Besides, a movie with Christian Bale van not go wrong. Moreover, the West Point icy fields photography is so mesmerizing that would not even require a story to justify it. Bale is a detective trying to investigate the murder of a West Point cadet, and his performance is so fraught with suffering that makes us ask: how is it possible that this guy has not an Oscar yet? By the way, the title comes from a line of Poe’s poem THE TELL-TALE HEART. Netflix.

Neste filme do grande Juan José Campanella, Darín é um funcionário da justiça apaixonado por sua chefe (Soledad Villamil) e obcecado pela resolução de um filme acontecido 20 anos antes. Muito mais do que um thriller policial, OSDSO é um dos mais emocionantes filmes românticos do cinema argentino. Além disso, é também sobre a bela amizade entre Benjamin (Darín) e Sandoval (Guillermo Francella). Oscar de Melhor Filme Estrangeiro. Ricardo Darín is mandatory. In this movie directed by the great Juan José Campanella, Darín is a retired legal counselor in love with his superior (Soledad Villamil) and obsessed with the closure of a crime committed 20 years before. Much more than a mystery thriller, TSOYE is one of the most touching romantic movie of the Argentinean cinema. Besides, it is also about the friendship between Benjamin (Darín) and Sandoval (Guillermo Francella). Best Foreign Language Film Oscar. Blu-Ray.  

4263 - OS INCOMPREENDIDOS (1957)

 

OS INCOMPREENDIDOS (LES QUATRE CENTS COUP, FRANÇA, 1959) – Clássico de Truffaut, OS INCOMPREENDIDOS, seu primeiro filme, é sobre um menino, Antoine, em Paris e seu caminho em direção ao crime. Considerado um problema para a família (mãe e padrasto) e a escola, há todo um simbolismo na trajetória de Antoine:  sempre que ele tenta se expressar criativamente, ele é cerceado, representando as angústias artísticas de uma geração pós-guerra, da qual Truffaut faz parte (ele, inclusive, aparece em uma cena do filme, num parque de diversões). A fotografia em p&b é belíssima, mostrando uma Paris sem o glamour das cores e dos neons, mas muito mais real e impactante. Truffaut’s classic, LQCC is his first movie and it is primarily about a young boy growing up with his mother and stepfather in Paris and apparently heading into a life of crime. Considered a troublemaker, Antoine’s story has a huge symbolism: anytime he tries to express himself creatively or acts up in a playful way he is shot down and metaphorically forced back into line, like the post war generation of which Truffaut is part (he has a cameo in a sequence of the film). Truffaut's cinematography in 'The 400 Blows' is exquisite. We see a Paris that is not in Technicolor with colorful fountains but a much more authentic picture of the actual situation. TC Cult.

SELENA (USA, 1997) – Biopic de Selena Quintanilha, com Jennifer Lopez no papel-título. J-Lo está perfeita no papel, mas é Edward James Olmos o pilar dramático do filme, como o pai de Selena e também seu empresário. De certa forma, esta relação familiar lembra um pouco a história de Michael Jackson. Jennifer Lopez brilha como protagonista em várias fases da sua curta vida – uma adolescente, a mulher apaixonada, filha, irmã e cantora adorada por seus fãs. Jennifer Lopez is stunning in every way as Selena. She hits all the right chords as a teenager, a woman in love, a dutiful daughter and sister, and a singer adored by legions of fans. Edward James Olmos is the dramatic pillar of the movie, as Serena’s father and manager, similar to Michael Jackson’s story. Amazon Prime.

O CONFORMISTA (IL CONFORMIST, Itália, 1970) – Com sua habitual junção de Marx e Freud, Bertolucci, neste filme, critica o fascismo e o capitalismo, inserindo questões da sexualidade, numa história sobre um homem que tenta provar que é heterossexual casando-se com uma mulher e aderindo ao movimento fascista na Itália de Mussolini. Apresentado com uma notável direção de fotografia de Vittorio Storaro, o filme explora as repressões sexuais da adolescência desse homem, acentuadas por movimentos ousados de câmara e planos meticulosamente elaborados, em cenários que viraram referência estética universal. É um clássico do pós-realismo italiano, fase que durou até o meio da década de 70. Linking Marx and Freud, Bertolucci, in this movie, criticizes fascism and capitalism, inserting sexual issues in a story about an man who tries to confirm his being heterosexual marrying a woman and joining Mussolini’s fascist movement. With a remarkable photography in charge of Vittorio Storaro, the movie explores the sexual repressions surrounded by bold camera movements and thoroughly elaborated sequences in sets that have become universal aesthetic reference.  OS REIS DA RUA (STREET KINGS, USA, 2008) – John Wick e Capitão América saem às ruas para descobrir os assassinos de um policial e pôr fim a um esquema de corrupção policial. Keanu Reeves, Chris Evan e Forest Whitaker têm personagens estereotipados: Reeves é o policial insubordinado, Evans é o parceiro cumpridor das leis e Whitaker é o chefe da equipe. Thriller policial eficiente, mas previsível, cuja maior atração é ver Evans num papel anterior aos Vingadores. John Wick and Captain America team together to find the murderers of a cop and put an end in a corruption scheme. Keanu Reeves, Chris Evans and Forest Whitaker have stereotyped characters: Reeves is the maverick cop, Evans is the one who follows thee law and Whitaker is the boss. Efficient but predicable police thriller, whose interest is to see Evans on a role previous to THE AVENGERS. Amazon Prime.   

  

4259 - GUERRA NAS ESTRELAS: EPISÓDIO VI - O RETORNO DE JEDI (1983)

GUERRA NAS ESTRELAS: EPISÓDIO VI – O RETORNO DE JEDI (STAR WARS: EPISODE VI – THE RETURN OF THE JEDI, USA, 1983) – Desta primeira trilogia, ORDJ é a edição mais fraca. Há cenas longas demais e uma certa infantilização da narrativa, especialmente nas sequências com os Ewoks, na floresta de Endor. Leia não tem mais a independência do primeiro filme e só se destaca numa inesperada sequência de biquini, como escrava de Jabba The Hutt, incorporando o estereótipo da garota bonita apenas, sem uma contribuição efetiva para o roteiro. Han Solo também perde espaço neste filme, e R2D2 e C3PO mais uma vez roubam as cenas. From the first trilogy, TROTJ is the weakest part: overlong scenes and a childish narrative, especially in the sequences with the Ewoks in the forest of Endor. Leia has lost her independence and is only noticed for the unexpected bikini sequence, as Jabba the Hutt’s slave, personifying the “hot girl” estereotype, without any actual contribution to the script. Han Solo is also missing here, and R2D2 and C3PO steal the scenes once more. Disney Plus.   

4258 - GUERRA NAS ESTRELAS: EPISÓDIO IV - O IMPÉRIO CONTRA-ATACA (1980)

 

STAR WARS: EPISÓDIO V - O IMPÉRIO CONTRA-ATACA (THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK, USA, 1980) – Comparado ao filme anterior, OICA é muito mais sombrio, revelando a conexão entre Luke e Darth Vader e aprofundando nossa percepção dos personagens e suas motivações. Isso fica evidente nas atuações – os personagens estão mais maduros, certamente marcados pelas vicissitudes ocorridas entre o primeiro e o segundo filme. Compared to the previous movie, TESB is much somber, revealing the connection between Luke and Darth Vader, deepening our perceptions of the characters and their motives. This is noticed in the performances – the actors embody this subtle shift in emphasis by simply looking older and acting more mature, certainly marked by the vicissitudes occurred between the first and the second movie.

PELÉ ETERNO (BRASIL, 2004) – Com a morte de Pelé, esse documentário assume um valor histórico mais amplo, baseado em uma detalhada narrativa da sua carreira e os depoimentos típicos de produções do gênero. Os gols e as jogadas de Pelé, mostradas sistematicamente, são tão mesmerizantes que ainda vale o velho clichê: é um balé entre ele e a bola, onde ela fica permanentemente dentro de uma espécie de campo de força de um jogador realmente inigualável. With Pelé’s death, this documentary regains a broader historical value, based on a detailed narrative about his career and typical testimonies of this kind of productions. The scored goals and his performance, systematically displayed, are so mesmerizing that the old cliché can be used: it is a ballet between him and the ball, in which it permanently remains inside a kind of the force field of a really incomparable soccer player. 4256 - GUERRA NAS ESTRELAS: EPISÓDIO IV - UMA NOVA ESPERANÇA (1977)

 

GUERRA NAS ESTRELAS: EPISÓDIO IV – UMA NOVA ESPERANÇA (STAR WARS: EPISODE IV – A NEW HOPE, USA, 1977) – Mesmo depois de tanto tempo, SW ainda é um filme épico em todos os sentidos. A narrativa do herói (Luke), em oposição ao vilão (Darth Vader) traz elementos arquetípicos atemporais. Os heróis são imediatamente identificáveis: o jovem confiante, fortalecido pela tragédia e ansioso para aprender, o velho mentor, a aparentemente apático mercenário, sempre caçando recompensas, e o grande twist de George Lucas – a recriação de uma donzela totalmente diferente dos personagens anódinos anteriores. O roteiro é muito simples, e são os detalhes inseridos por Lucas os transformadores do filme em um sucesso galáctico: robôs mais humanos que outros personagens e, sobretudo, o visual desgastado da espaçonaves, tradicionalmente mostradas como pristinas em filmes anteriores – em Star Wars, tudo tem quinas desgastadas ou coladas com fita adesiva, como na vida real, criando um ambiente totalmente crível e identificado com os espectadores. E a música de John Williams é uma obra-prima à parte. Even after so much time, SW is still an epic movie in all senses. The hero’s narrative in opposition to the villain (Vader) brings timeless archetypical elements. The heroes are easily identifiable: the cocky young kid, strengthened by tragedy, eager to learn, the wise old mentor, once a great warrior, the seemingly apathetic mercenary, on the run from bounty hunters, and Lucas’ great twist – the recreation of the damsel in distress, totally different from the lifeless characters from previous movies. It was not so much the story, which is simplistic, but the details inserted by Lucas are the true key to SW success: robots more human than most of the characters, and, moreover, the “lived-in look”, according to which everything has worn edges, everything is patched together with spit and scotch tape, creating a a totally believable environment which audiences recognize. And John Williams’ musical score is a parallel masterpiece. Disney Plus.

O vereador Cordaro, homem poderoso do local, quer tomar o edifício, contando com a cumplicidade dos habitantes da cidadezinha, e todos os outros edifícios do centro e transformá-los em locais para o turismo de massa. Há alguma coisa de Nelson Rodrigues no roteiro. In the 60s, after her husband dies unexpectedly, rosetta (Maria Grazia Cuccinota, from THE POSTMAN AND THE POET) is abandoned by everyone and needs to defend her business.  ISSO É PELÉ (Brasil, 1974) - Documentário sobre a vida de Pelé, contando sua carreira de 17 anos de futebol até aquela data. São focalizadas as grandes conquistas do futebol brasileiro, com ênfase nas Copas do Mundo de 1958 e 1970. Pelé tem uma postura quase professoral sobre suas qualidades. Vemos cenas das suas partidas mais importantes, os gols mais emocionantes. A produção dirigida por Eduardo Escorel e Luiz Carlos Barreto é um registro histórico importante. Documentary about Pelé’s 17-year-career at the time. The World Cups won by Brazil are connected to his life, and Pelé has a teacherlike posture when he talks about his qualities. Scenes of his most important matches and main scored goals can be seen. Directed by Eduardo Escorel and Luiz Carlos Barreto, the production is an important historical register. Canal Brasil.

CLICHÊS DE HOLLYWOOD: O CINEMA COMO VOCÊ SEMPRE VIU (ATTACK OF THE HOLLYWOOD CLICHES!, USA, 2021) – Esse documentário apresenta algumas sequências de vários filmes famosos e os clichés mais característicos. Poderia ter sido uma boa oportunidade para analisar a natureza do fenômeno, mas acaba sendo tão superficial que se transforma, no fi, num grande cliché. A special featuring some of the most famous films along with Screenwriters, Academics and Critics as they guide through the funny, weird and controversial clichés which appear on the screens. It could have been an interesting dissection on the nature of cliches, but really, it's just superficial fun facts about one cliche before going to the next with an occasional joke of timing a bizarre description before cutting to a scene of that exact description. This show starts off well enough, a few good points made with humor and a bit of background of some of the cliches. At the end, everything becomes a big cliché. Netflix.

BLACK SUMMER – TEMP. 1 – 8 EPISÓDIOS (BLACK SUMMER, USA, 2019) – Em nada parecido com ZNation, apesar dos mesmos criadores e diretores, BS é um thriller de horror zumbi eficiente, com tensão crescente, suspense a quase nenhuma enrolação. O foco aqui é saber como sobreviver a um evento apocalíptico, sem saber as causas. A história é contada da perspectiva dos personagens, quase em tempo real, seguindo um estilo de documentário que funciona, caso você esqueça já ter visto THE WALKING DEAD. It is completly different from ZNation, even if it is in the same universe and has the same creator and director. It is a horror thriller well made – the screenplay has increasing tension, suspense and almost no drama filler. The question here is to survive an apocalyptic event, without knowing the causes. The show is told by the characters perspective, and it happens almost like real time, following a documentary style that works if you do not keep remembering THE WALKING DEAD.

PELÉ (UK, 2021) – Documentário acompanhando a vida de Pelé ao longo das três primeiras Copas do Mundo vencidas pelo Brasil. Algumas boas imagens da época, especialmente dos treinamentos e da relação dos jogadores com a imprensa. Ainda é muito emocionante ver como a Copa de 70 teve uma atmosfera épica para todos os envolvidos, especialmente Pelé, em virtude dos traumas físicos das copas anteriores. A morte de Pelé, dois dias atrás, faz tudo ficar ainda mais impactante.  Documentary following Pelé’s life along the three first World Cups won by Brazil. Some good footage of the time, especially of the training sessions and the players’ relationship with the press. It is still touching to check how the 70 World Cup had an epic atmosphere for everybody, especially Pelé, due to the physical issues he had in the previous World Cups. Pelé’s death, two days ago, makes everything much more poignant. Netflix.

VIVER DUAS VEZES (VIVIR DOS VECES, Espanha, 2019) – Esse é um dos filmes mais lindos de qualquer lista. Pare tudo: veja, reveja, sinta apenas. É uma homenagem às lembranças que nunca saem de nós, aconteça o que acontecer. Mostra também que o mundo dos números pode muito bem colidir com o dos sentimentos, uma dança suave, como a voz de Maria Rodés. This is one of the most beautiful movies in any list. Stop and watch, watch again, just feel. It is a homage to the memories that never leave us, no matter what. It also shows that the world of numbers can collide with the world of feelings, in a smooth dance, as Maria Rodés’ voice. Netflix.  

4249 - A GENERAL (1926)

 

A GENERAL (THE GENERAL, USA, 1926) - Durante a Guerra da Secessão, Buster quer se engajar nas tropas sulistas, mas em vez de usar uniforme ele continua a conduzir a locomotiva chamada "General" em missões perigosas, depois de rouba-la do inimigo. Buster denuncia com humor o absurdo da guerra, do processo mecânico, enfrentando impassível todos os cataclismos. A trama foi inspirada num caso real da guerra em que um mecânico sulista fez um feito parecido. Com imagens esplêndidas, o filme tem também um dos desfechos mais espetaculares já produzidos para uma comédia. One of the great masterpieces of cinema, Buster Keaton's "The General" combines inventive humor with terrific action and fine melodrama, all beautifully and carefully planned and photographed. It is filled with subtle and wonderful details that make it well worth devoting your full attention to watching. As an extra bonus, it offers a fascinating look at the Civil War era, with many realistic details, inspired by a historical incident.   

4248 - SEINFELD - TEMP 7 - 23 EPISÓDIOS (1995)

 

Marisa Tomei encantando George (e todos nós)

SEINFELD – TEMP 7 – 23 EPISÓDIOS (SEINFELD, Season 7, 1995) – Esta temporada não foi particularmente memorável – apenas o arco dramático de George e seu noivado com Susan, com consequências fatais, salva o sétimo ano de SEINFELD. De fato, o episódio final, sobre os convites de casamento, é o mais engraçado, apesar do fechamento trágico. O episódio 6, o famoso THE SOUP NAZI, ainda é engraçado, mas perdeu força com o tempo. E, claro, Marisa Tomei apareceu no episódio 24, THE CADILLAC, e isso já compensaria as expectativas frustradas com uma temporada sem grandes destaques. This season was not particularly memorable – just George’s dramatic arch with his engagement with Susan, with fatal consequences, saves SEINFELD’s 7^th year. As a matter of fact, the final episode, about the wedding invitations, is the best, despite the tragic closure. Episode 6, the famous THE SOUP NAZI, is still funny, but has lost his punch along the years. And, of course, Marisa Tomei shows up in episode 24, THE CADILLAC, compensating any frustration with a season deprived of greater highlights. Netflix.

Jennifer Lopez, sex-appeal a serviço da polícia

SHADES OF BLUE – TEMP 2 – 13 EPISÓDIOS (SHADES OF BLUE, USA, 2017) – Servir e proteger. Com Jennifer Lopez como detective, o lema da polícia de Nova York poderia aduzir o seguinte verbo: seduzir. Com os cabelos cuidadosamente rebeldes, saltos altos, roupas apertadas, maquiagem perfeita, não há como não desgrudar os olhos dela em todas as suas cenas – e ela está em 99% delas, felizmente. Os episódios desta temporada giram ainda em torno da corrupção policial, agora nas mãos de um tipo mafioso, típico de NY. JLo tem uma atuação magnética, sempre correndo, sem tempo para respirar, a partir dos primeiros episódios, sem se importar com os inimigos, como Bianchi, o tal mafioso que ameaça a sua vida e das pessoas à sua volta. Esta ansiedade se transporta para o ritmo da série, nos fazendo estar permanentemente tensos. Jennifer Lopez is giving an exhausted performance. She is constantly running from scene to scene, constantly moving. Her character of Harlee Santos never stops. She hardly ever gets a moment to breathe. She's always on the go and the events at the beginning of this season gives a reason for that. She doesn't want to do so, but she ends up making enemies with an Italian mobster named Bianchi. He not only threatens her life but also the lives of people around her, which scares her and keeps her on guard. Her anxiety becomes the anxiety of the show, which has not only her but the audience on edge. It makes this show a perpetual thrill ride.

RITA – TEMP 5 – 8 EPISÓDIOS (RITA, Noruega, 2020) – Essa última temporada fecha o arco dramático da história meio caótica de Rita, estabelecendo pontes com os eventos da primeira fase. Ao longo do tempo, percebe-se que as situações na escola vão ficando cada vez mais irreais, refletindo muito mais o simbólico do que o mundo real. Rita é uma professora com uma obsessão: fazer tudo por seus alunos, sem se importar de interferir na vida pessoal deles, ultrapassando todos os limites. A questão é: até onde, numa sociedade aparentemente conservadora como a norueguesa, isso é possível e desejável? Por outro lado, ela descuida da vida pessoal, só consertada pela intervenção providencial do roteiro. This last season closes the dramatic arch of Rita’s chaotic story, establishing links with the events of the first season. After 5 seasons, it is clear that the school situations have become more and more irreal, mirroring much more the symbolic than the actual world. Rita is a teacher with an obsession: to do everything for her students, crossing all the social lines and interfering in their personal lives. The question is: how far is it possible and desirable in a conservative society? On the other hand, she is careless with her personal life, which is fixed by a heave-sent screenplay. Netflix.

SOB O SOL DA TOSCANA (UNDER THE TUSCAN SUN, USA, 2003) – Este é um filme adorável. Por vários motivos: a Itália ensolarada, a amizade nos tempos difíceis, a esperança de reconstrução, as frustrações inevitáveis da vida, a descoberta de imensas felicidades cotidianas escondidas em pequenos eventos inesperados. Sim, Diane Lane está linda, mas há muito mais do que uma presença radiante. Suas expressões, em contraponto às emoções cambiantes, são resultado de talento puro. Vicent Riotta é um destaque, como o prestativo Sr. Martini, também capaz de passar a filosofia necessária a quem vem de fora. SOSDT não é uma simples comédia romântica, com todos os clichês do gênero, e oferece um outro insight para quem se acostumou com filmes aparentemente despretensiosos, mas que são muito mais que isso, a partir de um segundo olhar. This is a lovely movie, due to several reasons: the sunny Italy, friendship through hard times, hope to start again, the inevitable frustrations of life, the discovery of happy moments hidden in small unexpected events. Yes, Diane Lane is beautiful but there is much more to her acting than a shining appearance. Her facial gestures, mirroring her emotions as they shift from moment to moment, are the product of extraordinary acting ability. Vincent Riotta is the film's highlight, as the helpful Mr. Martini who also gives two or three lessons to the stranger in a strange land. It's easy to dismiss "Under the Tuscan Sun" as another silly romantic comedy filled with typical clichés and sappy situations; but while those descriptions often prove true to this film, there is something else, something more that this movie offers that makes it special, and a truly different experience to those used to watch the same plots in similar movies. A deeper analysis makes UTSOT a memorable experience. DVD.

 O HOMEM BICENTENÁRIO (BICENTENNIAL MAN, USA, 2000) - Based in part on two stories by Isaac Asimov, Bicentennial Man follows the 200-year life of a robot searching for identity, friendship, love and ultimately, humanity. Programmed to be a domestic servant, the robot (named Andrew by his master) learns that he is more than just a machine. Be it faulty programming, loose wiring, or just positronic anomaly, he—unlike his fellow robots—has a unique personality, will and feelings. Over the years, “upgrades” provide him with enhanced facial expression, then a human-like skin, then even a central nervous system. But he’s still a robot. So he sets out on a journey to become recognized as fully human. He’s even willing to pay the ultimate human price—death.

4243 - VIAGEM FANTÁSTICA (1966)

VIAGEM FANTÁSTICA (FANTASTIC VOYAGE, USA, 1966) – Certamente, um dos maiores filmes de sci-fi de todos dos tempos, levando em consideração a tecnologia da época e o conceito narrativo ainda marcantemente teatral. De qualquer forma, ver um submarino com cientistas ser injetado no corpo de outro cientista para operá-lo de uma lesão cerebral muda a vida de qualquer um. Especialmente se, entre esses cientistas, está Raquel Welch, incapaz de ser menos sexy em cena, flertando com Stephen Boyd (que resistiu, diga-se de passagem). Mesmo depois de todos esses anos, o filme ainda é fascinante. Certainly, one of the greatest sci-fi movies ever, considering the technology of the time and the thespian narrative concept. Anyway, see a submarine with scientists being injected into another scientist’s body in order to perform a brain surgery changes anybody’s life. Especially if, among the scientists, is Raquel Welch, unable to be less sexy, flirting with Stephen Boyd (who resisted, they say). Even after so many years, the movie is nothing but fascinating. DVD.
