During the sci-fi boom in the 60s, LIS can be considered much deeper than it seemed, because it represents, in its premise of survival, life as we know it. The initial assumption, of an actual sci-fi committed to the technological breakthroughs of the time, lost it scope to more campy scripts, centered on the trio Will/Smith/the Robot. In a certain way, this may convey an existential point of view, after a traumatic beginning, like childhood and youth. Based on THE SWISS FAMILY ROBINSON, by John Davis Wyss, Irwin Allen’s series starts as a serious adaptation, almost somber, of the adventures of a family of colonizers headed to Alpha Centauri.

Francella é simplesmente um furacão em cada cena, transformando situações improváveis de um roteiro baseado na comédia de costumes quase cartunesca em reflexo fiel das contradições humanas. Destaca-se também como ele domina o espaço cênico do prédio em que Eliseo trabalha e o transforma em um ecossistema no qual ele transita oniscientemente, manipulando a conduta anímica dos seus moradores. Guillermo Francella é obrigatório. This third season confirms the talent of this great actor, Guillermo Francella, in full command of a rare character, with several subtle hermeneutic layers and, at the same time, also striking. Francella is simply a hurricane in every scene he is in, turning improbable situations of a script based on a sitcom almost cartoonish into an actual picture of human contradictions. He dominates the building scenic space in which Eliseo works and changes it into a ecosystem omnisciently controlled by him while manipulates the emotional behavior of the tenants. TRUE BLOOD – TEMP 2 – 12 EPISÓDIOS (USA, 2009) – A temporada se desenvolve a partir da influência da ménade Maryann sobre a população de Bom Temps. As ménades, na mitologia grega, são seguidoras de Dionísio e incitam as pessoas a entrarem em êxtase e isso é mostrado na série de forma bem didática, enquanto Sookie e Bill continuam um romance bem sem graça. Falando em graça, temos maior tempo de Deborah Ann Woll, como Jessica, perfeita como uma vampira neófita descobrindo os prazeres da eternidade. Ela poderia ter uma série só para ela – sua presença cênica é impressionante. The season evolves around the influence of maenad Maryann over the Bon Temps population. The maenads, in Greek mythology, are the followers od Dionysius and incite people to ecstasy and this is displayed in a very instructive way, while Sookie and Bill go on with an insipid and graceless romance. Talking about grace, we have more scene time of Deborah Ann Woll, as Jessica, perfect as a neophyte vampire finding out the pleasures of eternity. She could have a show of her own as her scenic presence is outstanding. Netflix.

ENTRANDO NUMA FRIA (MEET THE PARENTS, USA, 2000) – Ben Stiller é a perfeita cornucópia constrangimento social. As cenas nas quais ele, com a melhor das intenções, é sempre mal interpretado, são memoráveis. Neste filme, ele reprisa seu personagem de QUEM VAI FICAR COM MARY?, com uma graça irreverente com a qual todos podemos nos identificar. Aqui, Robert De Niro assume sua veia de comédia, sem o mesmo resultado de Jack Nicholson, no hilário ANGER MANAGEMENT. Ben Stiller is the perfect cornucopia of social awkwardness. He portrays a clumsy protagonist whose best intentions always need to be better timed or received completely the wrong way and this is memorable. In this movie, he reprises his "There's Something About Mary" role, with cute charm and the obscured zany flippancy to which we can easily relate. In my opinion, Robert De Niro is not very successful in his comedy mood, unlike Jack Nicholson in the hilarious ANGER MANAGEMENT.

O PILOTO: UMA BATALHA PELA SOBREVIVÊNCIA (LETCHICK, Rússia, 2021) - Tecnicamente impecável, o filme conta a história de um piloto russo abatido durante uma missão na WW2 e sua luta pela sobrevivência. As sequências aéreas são incomparáveis, beirando a perfeição, utilizando artisticamente o potencial dos CGIs. A cinematografia é deslumbrante, nesta produção homenageando os pilotos russos na WW2. Technically impeccable, the movie tells the story of a Russian pilot shot down during a mission in WW2 and his struggle for survival. The aerial sequences are incomparable, almost perfect, artistically applying the CGI potential at the most. The cinematography is dazzling in this production that pays homage to the Russian pilots in the war. Prime. 

  

4497 - ALIEN COVENANT (2017)

ALIENS: COVENANT (USA, 2017) – Certamente, em toda a galáxia, nunca houve uma tripulação tão despreparada como a da nave Covenant, ao chegarem a um planeta desconhecido sem qualquer estudo ambiental prévio, num filme cujo título tem a palavra “aliens” e dirigido por Ridley Scott. Dito isto, o filme tem excelente CGI e uma boa dose de suspense, apesar da pletora de buracos negros no roteiro. Michael Fassbender é o destaque como os androides gêmeos com personalidades totalmente diferentes. Certainly, in all galaxy, there has never been such unprepared crew as the one on the Covenant spaceship, when they landed on an unknown planet without any previous environmental study, in a movie whose title has the word “alien” and directed by Ridley Scott. That said, the movie has excellent CGI and a decent amount of suspense, despite the plethora of black holes in the script. Michael Fassbender is the standout of the narrative as the twins androids with opposed personalities. Disney Plus.

FURIOSA – A MAD MAX SAGA (Austrália, USA, 2024) – George Miller despeja toda sua estética narrativa nesta prequel contando a traumática infância de Furiosa, primeiro vivida pela excelente Alyla Browne e, depois, por Anya Taylor-Joy, numa atuação pouco convincente de tão contida. Por outro lado, Chris Hemsworth se esbalda no papel de Dementus, com um timing perfeito para a quase comédia. George Miller é um diretor consagrado, cuja capacidade de criar um universo tão impactante ainda se mostra vigorosa nesta mais recente edição de MAD MAX. Seus personagens são literalmente construídos pelo que sobrou de uma sociedade decadente, refletindo uma degeneração anímica provocada pelos mecanismos deletérios da competição desmedida, provável causadora do mundo distópico, cujo imaginário Miller tão bem domina. George Miller displays all his narrative aesthetics in this prequel, providing an interesting account of Furiosa’s traumatic childhood, first played by the excellent Alyla Browne and, later, by Anya Taylor-Joy, in a not so convincing performance. On the other hand, Chris Hemsworth rocks on the role of Dementus, with a perfect comedy timing. George Miller is an acknowledged director, whose ability to create such striking universe is still powerful in this fresh edition of MAD MAX. His characters are literally built with spare parts of a decaying society mirroring an degeneration caused by the deleterious mechanisms of a untamed competitivity that caused this dystopic world whose imagery is so well mastered by Miller. Os sub-tons sombrios desta comédia se adequam perfeitamente ao ponto de vista de Eliseu, cuja personalidade manipuladora está à vontade para controlar um ecossistema onde pululam indivíduos de moral dúbia e atitudes duvidosas. Guillermo Francella é obrigatório. The series builds the story with sarcasm and dry wit, offering a critical view of the dynamics and social typologies introduced through the different characters’ stories, always from Eliseo’s unyielding point of view. A METADE NEGRA (THE DARK HALF, USA, 1993) – Com roteiro de Stephen King e George Romero, também diretor, o filme é uma versão de Dr. Jeckyll e Mr. Hyde literário, no qual um escritor (Timothy Hutton) enfrenta uma versão maligna dele mesmo. Timothy Hutton does a spectacular job as both Beaumont and Stark. He really makes you believe the two are separate people but are tied together. The plot is suspenseful and full of unexpected twists. There are also supernatural elements such as the sparrows or bringers of the living dead.    

4492 - A ROCHA (1996)

 

A ROCHA (THE ROCK, USA, 1996) – Ver Sean Connery e Nicolas Cage em um mesmo filme é uma oportunidade imperdível para qualquer pessoa. Este filme de Michael Bay os reúne num thriller de ação, cujo roteiro, recheado de algumas situações cômicas, parece ter envelhecido mal. Hoje, notam-se inconsistências comprometedoras na história e um certo desânimo de Connery em muitas sequências. O vilão, vivido por Ed Harris, exagera no estereótipo, e o governo americano é apresentado como uma turma de incompetentes. Tudo poderia ter sido mais bem produzido. Connery e Cage mereciam muito mais. To watch Sean Connery and Nicolas Cage on the same movie is an unmissable opportunity for anyone. Michael Bay’s movie puts them together in an action thriller whose script, fraught with some gags, seems to have aged badly. Now, some compromising inconsistencies in the story can be spotted, besides Connery being lazy in some sequences. The villain, played by Ed Harris, exaggerates the stereotype, and the American government is shown as a group of incompetents. Everything could have been better produced. Connery and Cage deserved much more. Disney Plus.

THE BIG BANG THEORY – TEMP 3 – 23 EPISÓDIOS (USA, 2009) – Três episódios em destaque: The adhesive Duck Deficiency, no qual Sheldon tem que levar Penny a um pronto-socorro para ser atendida;  em The gorilla experiment, Sheldon tenta ensinar Física a Penny para ela impressionar Leonard, numa das sequências mais engraçadas da série; e em The staircase implementation, Leonard conta a Penny como ele e Sheldon se conheceram e o que aconteceu com o elevador. Nesta temporada, Jim Parsons define mais solidamente a personalidade peculiar de Sheldon, entrelaçando sua linguagem física com suas falas inspiradíssimas de seu personagem. Three episodes deserve to be given a special mention: The adhesive duck deficiency, in which Sheldon has to drive Penny to the ER; in The gorilla experiment, Sheldon attempts to teach Physics to Penny to impress Leonard; in The staircase implementation, Leonard tells Penny about how he and Sheldon became roommates and what happened to the elevator. In this season, Jim Parsons defines more accurately Sheldon’s quirk personality, intertwining his physical language with the inspired lines of his character. Prime.

  BAND OF BROTHERS – 10 EPISÓDIOS - (USA, 2001) – É curioso ver David Schwimmer, o Ross de FRIENDS, no papel de um sargento durão em três episódios desta mini série produzida por Tom Hanks e Steven Spielberg. Em alguns momentos, ele parece ainda estar contracenando com Jennifer Aniston, embora sua atuação como o sargento Sobel não seja menos que notável. Dito isso, BOB, para além da propaganda americana, é um retrato interessante dos preparativos para a entrada dos aliados na WW2, apesar de alguns personagens estereotipados e temas recorrentes (dúvidas em relação à guerra, saudades de casa, incertezas sobre o combate em campo). Muitos atores agora famosos aparecem em começo de carreira: Michael Fassbender, Damian Lewis, Ron Livingston, Michael Cudlitz, Tom Hardy, Colin Hanks, Dominic Cooper, Jimmy Fallon, James McAvoy, Andrew Scott. It is curious to watch David Schwimmer, Ross in FRIENDS, on the role of a tough sergeant in three episodes of this mini series produced by Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg. At some moments, he seems to be chatting with Jennifer Aniston, although his performance as sergeant Sobel is not less than remarkable. That said, BOB, besides the American propaganda, is an interesting portrait of the Allied preparation to enter WW2, despite some stereotyped characters and recurrent themes (doubts about the war itself, homesickness, uncertainties about the field combat). Many actors, now famous, are seen in the beginning of their careers: Michael Fassbender, Damian Lewis, Ron Livingston, Michael Cudlitz, Tom Hardy, Colin Hanks, Dominic Cooper, Jimmy Fallon, James McAvoy, Andrew Scott.  TOP GANG 2 (HOT SHOTS! PART DEUX, USA, 1993) – Jim Abrahams, junto com seus amigos de infância, Jerry e David Zucker, realizaram as melhores comédias dos anos 80 e 90 (APERTEM OS CINTOS..., TOP SECRET, POLICE SQUAD). Nesta sequência, ele volta a dirigir Charlie Sheen numa paródia de vários filmes de sucesso, com uma sequência no stop de gags, em muitos momentos, concomitantes – portanto, preste atenção. Ryan Stiles, sempre engraçado, poderia ter tido mais tempo em cena. Valeria Golino retorna como o objeto amoroso de Sheen, galvanizando também os olhares cobiçosos do restante do elenco. Jim Abrahams, along with his childhood friends and future collaborators, Jerry and David Zucker, made the best comedies of the 80s (AIRPLANE!, TOP SECRET, POLICE SQUAD). In this sequence, he once ore directs Charlie Sheen in a parody of several hits of the decade, in a non-stop sequence of concurrent gags – thus, pay attention! Ryan Stiles, always funny, could have had more scene time. Valeria Golino returns as Sheen’s love interest, galvanizing covetous gazes from the cast.

4488 - EUROPA REPORT (2013)

 

EUROPA REPORT (USA, 2013) - In the film, six astronauts embark on a mission of discovery, planning to land on (as one would expect) Europa, one of Jupiter's moons, after recent discoveries showed a possibility of microbial life underneath its icy oceans. We see the recorded video from their ship's cameras (yes, it's a found footage film) that tells the story of their ill-fated voyage. It's a simplistic premise, and director Sebastián Cordero seems to be a bit unsure of himself at the outset. The film refuses to follow a linear narrative; even before the main title appears, we join the crew many months into their trip and are given the knowledge that there's obviously been an incident onboard already, one that's robbed the journey of one of their intrepid space explorers.

O JARDIM SECRETO (THE SECRET GARDEN, USA, 1993) – Uma das qualidades deste filme é evocar, em qualquer pessoa, lembranças edulcoradas da infância, representada num lócus arquetípico caracterizado pela inocência perdida de Wordsworth. Chama a atenção a química entre as crianças protagonistas. A versão de 1949 é mais fiel ao livro de Frances Hodgson Burnett. One of the qualities of this movie is to evoke, in anyone, sweet childhood memories, represented by a classic locus whose main trait is Wordsworth’s lost innocence. It is remarkable the chemistry among the children in the movie. The 1949 version seems to be more faithful to Frances Hodgson Burnett novel.   

4486 - MERGULHANDO NO AMOR (2024)

 MERGULHANDO NO AMOR (FIND ME FALLING, USA, 2024) – Harry Connick Jr surgiu como uma nova versão de Frank Sinatra, tanto na música como no cinema. Não o igualou em nenhuma dessas áreas. No entanto, neste filme, ele se desincumbe bem no papel de um astro de rock decadente que compra uma casa em Chipre e reencontra o grande amor de sua vida. É uma história de amor, simples, sem muitos rodeios, cuja intenção é apenas promover a esperança em tempos tão negativos. A bela fotografia e o cenário natural também ajudam. Harry Connick Jr appeared as a new version of Frank Sinatra both in music and cinema. He failed in succeeding in both areas. However, in this movie, he successfully carried out the role of an aged one-hit rocker who purchased a house in Cyprus and is reunited with the love of his life. It is a simple love story, straight to the point, whose intention is to promote hope in such negative times. The beautiful photography and the natural scenery are also high point in the script. Netflix.

     SABOR DA VIDA (LA PASSION DE DODIN BOUFFANT, França, 2023) – Este é um filme e lindíssimo. Juliette Binoche é Eugenie, a cozinheira de um gourmet, Dodin (Benoit Magimel), com quem tem uma relação de amor profunda que também envolve a arte de cozinhar. Quando Dodin se vê diante da relutância de Eugenie em aceitar seu pedido de casamento, ele decide cozinhar para ela. Este é um filme para ser saboreado, assim como os pratos preparados em longas e memoráveis cenas na cozinha. Juliette Binoche e Magimel foram casados na vida real (1998 – 2003), e este fato torna a história ainda mais comovente. Obra-prima possível somente no cinema francês. This is a very beautiful movie. Juliette Binoche is Eugenie, a esteemed cook for a gourmet, Dodin (Benoit Magimel), with whom she has a deep love relationship that also comprises the art of cooking. When Dodin faces her reluctance to accept his proposal, he decides to cook for her. This is a movie to be tasted as well as the dishes prepared in memorable scenes in the kitchen. Juliette Binoche and Magimel were once married in real life (1998 – 2003), and this fact makes the story even more touching. Prime.

MEU QUERIDO ZELADOR – TEMP 1 – 11 EPISÓDIOS - (EL ENCARGADO, Argentina, 2022) – Guillermo Francella é obrigatório, assim como o cinema argentino. Francella é um zelador de um edifício em BsAs e, nesta temporada, usa de todas as artimanhas para manipular os moradores na votação para a construção de uma piscina no terraço, onde ele mora. Ele simplesmente brilha em cada cena, com total comando de um personagem dúbio na sua ética, mas, ao mesmo tempo, tão irresistivelmente simpático, que torna EL ENCARGADO uma série digna do alto padrão do cinema portenho. Guillermo Francella is mandatory as well as the Argentinean cinema. Francella, here, is a super in a building in BsAs and, in this season, uses all tricks to manipulate the tenants to vote against the construction of a swimming pool. He simply shines in every scene he is in, with total command of a dubious ethical character, but at the same time, so irresistibly charming that we can not help considering EL ENCARGADO a show with the same level of quality of the Argentinean cinema. 4483 - NA MIRA DO PERIGO (2021)

 

NA MIRA DO PERIGO (MARKSMAN, USA 2021) – O diretor Robert Lorenz trabalhou com Clint Eastwood por muitos anos, como produtor, e faz sua homenagem ao seu mentor com o personagem de Liam Neeson neste road-movie com alguma crítica social tangenciando a imigração ilegal nos EUA. Neeson, aqui, protege um órfão mexicano perseguido por traficantes, ao mesmo tempo que tenta lidar com a perda da esposa e com suas dificuldades financeiras. O roteiro segue a fórmula exitosa dos filmes de Liam, nos quais ele interpreta o homem solitário e justo, capaz de enfrentar os bandidos com a fleuma irlandesa que o caracteriza há tanto tempo. Katheryn Winnick está desperdiçada num papel totalmente sem função na história. Director Robert Lorenz worked with Clint Eastwood for many years as a producer and pays homage to his mentor with Liam Neeson’s character in this road-movie that has some social criticism about illegal immigration in the USA. Neeson here protects a Mexican orphan chased by drug dealers and, at the same time, tries to cope with the loss of his wife and his financial difficulties. The script follows Liam’s winning formula in which he plays the solitary and fair man, able to fight the bad guys with the Irish phlegm that has been distinguishing him since the beginning of his career. Netflix.    

4482 - TOP GANG (1991)

  

TOP GANG (HOT SHOTS!, USA, 1991) – O curioso neste filme é a reunião de Charlie Sheen, Jon Cryer e Ryan Stiles, 10 anos antes de TWO AND A HALF MEN. Com o mesmo estilo de APERTEM OS CINTOS, TOP GANG ainda tem piadas engraçadas, sempre fazendo referências a filmes e celebridades da época. Neste caso, a história é, basicamente, uma sátira a TOP GUN, com Tom Cruise, com tudo que o politicamente incorreto pode oferecer. What is curious about this movie is the gathering of Charlie Sheen, Jon Cryer and Ryan Stiles, 10 years before TWO AND A HALF MEN. Following AIRPLANE! Style, TOP GANG still has funny jokes, always referring to movies and celebrities of the time. In this case, the plotline is basically a satire of Tom Cruise’s TOP GUN, and it is politically incorrect to the maximum. Disney.

4481 - THE BOYS - TEMP 4 - 8 EPISÓDIOS (2024)

 THE BOYS TEMP 4 8 EPISÓDIOS (USA, 2024) – Essa temporada ficou abaixo das anteriores. Ficou a impressão de um roteiro meio travado, pesado, cansativo. O destaque ainda é o Homelander de Anthony Starr, mas há vários personagens insuportáveis: Sister Sage, Firecracker (novos) e outros que continuam chatos, como Starlight, A-Train, The Deep, Ashley Ryan e Black Noir. A única novidade positiva é Jeffrey Dean Morgan nas cenas com Butcher (Karl Urban), além do viés político mais crítico à extrema-direita americana, com claras referências ao pesadelo Trump. This season is a little below the previous ones for it is somewhat tiring and a little bit confusing. The highlight is still Anthony Starr’s Homelander, but there are several unbearable characters: Sister Sage, Firecracker (the new ones), and others that keep on being boring, as Starlight, A-Train, The Deep, Ashley, Ryan and Black Noir. The only positive aspect is Jeffrey Dean Morgan sharing scenes with Butcher (Karl Urban), besides a political approach more critical of the American extreme right-wing, with direct references to the Trump nighmare. TRATAMENTO DE CHOQUE (ANGER MANAGEMENT, USA, 2003) – Há dois destaques neste filme: a hilariante atuação de Jack Nicholson e, simplesmente, Marisa Tomei. Nicholson, como sempre, rouba todas as cenas com seu timing perfeito de comédia. A participação de Woody Harrelson é também engraçadíssima. Claro, January Jones causa tanto impacto, num papel parecido com o seu em SIMPLESMENTE AMOR, que fica difícil encontrar um parâmetro estético para defini-la. Two highlights in this movie: Jack Nicholson’s hilarious performance and simply Marisa Tomei. Nicholson, as always, steals all the scenes he is in with his perfect comedy timing. Woody Harrelson’s part is irresistibly funny. Of course, January Jones has such impact on us, on a role similar to hers in ACTUALLY LOVE, that is becomes difficult to find an aesthetic parameter to define her. Looke.

TWO AND A HALF MEN, TEMP 8, 16 EPISÓDIOS (USA, 2010) – A briga entre Charlie Sheen e Chuck Lorre abreviou essa temporada arrastada, pouco inspirada, na qual se nota claramente em alguns episódios a estado crítico de Sheen. As melhores cenas são de Alan com Lyndsey. O súbito interesse de Charlie por Rose parece meio forçado e aponta para uma mudança improvável da sua personalidade hedonista. The fight between Charlie and Chuck Lorre shortened this uninspired season in which it is clear Sheen’s critical condition. The best scenes are with Alan and Lyndsey. Charlie’s sudden interest in Rose seems a little pushy and points to an improbable change in his hedonist personality. Prime.

DRIVE MY CAR (DORAIBU MAI KÂ, Japão, 2021) – Obra-prima do cinema contemporâneo, DRIVE MY CAR é uma aula de como narrar uma história sobre a aceitação e sobre o entendimento de um sofrimento profundo causado por perdas irremediáveis. Além disso, é também sobre a importância de ouvir o outro no que isso tem de entrega e empatia. A impressionante tapeçaria dramática do diretor Ryûsuke Hamaguchi é tecida a partir de detalhes sutis extraídos principalmente do relacionamento do personagem principal, o diretor de teatro, e de sua motorista quase invisível e responsável por guiá-lo pelas ruas limpíssimas de Hiroshima – eles dois e a cidade traumatizados por tragédias profundas. Atenção para a cena final da peça, em que a atriz muda faz um lindo e emocionante discurso com a linguagem de sinais. Simplesmente maravilhoso. Masterpiece of the contemporary cinema, DRIVE MY CAR is a class of how to narrate a story about acceptance and understanding of how deep sorrow can be due to irremediable losses. Besides, it also about the importance of listening to each other with empathy. The director’s impressive dramatic tapestry, woven out of subtle details extracted from the relationship of the main character, the theater director, and his almost invisible driver in charge of driving him through the streets of Hiroshima – them both and the city traumatized by deep scarring tragedies. Attention to the final scene of the play, in which the actress makes a beautiful and moving speech with sign language. Simply wonderful. Mubi.

FUGA DE SOBIBOR (ESCAPE FROM SOBIBOR, USA, 1987) – Produção para a TV sobre a maior fuga de prisioneiros de um campo de concentração na WW2, com Alan Arkin, Rutger Hauer e Joanna Pacula. One of the most terrifying accounts of the atrocities which took place during World War II this is one of the best films best about the Nazi holocaust, and the atrocities committed in the concentration camps. Based on a true story of a heroic uprising in one of these camps of death and horror, it was also a tribute to those who died and survived at Sobibor and the other death and labor camps during World War II.  UM BOM ANO (A GOOD YEAR, UK, 2006) – Este filme de Ridley Scott é sobre como um fato inusitado e precioso do cotidiano pode transformar a vida de uma pessoa. Russel Crowe é Max, um operador do sistema financeiro que herda uma vinícola do seu tio em Provença, e o fato precioso é Marion Cotillard. Embora o roteiro seja um pouco irregular, entre um drama existencial e uma comédia de costumes, a história toma uma dimensão reflexiva, entre uma e outra situação engraçada, principalmente por causa do cenário deslumbrante e de Marion Cotillard, cuja presença na nossa vida faria qualquer ano ser muito mais que bom. This Ridley Scott’s movie is about how an unexpected daily fact can change a person’s life. Russel Crowe is Max, a British investment broker, who inherits his uncle’s chateau and vineyard in Provence, and the precious daily fact is Marion Cotillard. Although the script is a little bit irregular, swinging between existential drama and comedy, the story tends to be reflexive, mainly because of the dazzling landscape and Marion Cotillard, whose presence in our lives would make any year much more than good.   A ENTREGA (THE DROP, USA, 2014) – Último filme do inesquecível James Gandolfini, A ENTREGA gira em torno do terror provocado por uma máfia chechena no Brooklin, depois do assalto a um bar pertencente a eles e gerido por dois primos, Bob (Tom Hardy) e Marv (Gandolfini). O roteiro é bem simplificado, apesar da estereotipagem de alguns personagens (os maus, principalmente). É aí que reside a maior qualidade do filme, no qual a presença de Jim, magnética e fascinante, é o fator de maior emoção. Hardy tem uma atuação contida, como sempre costuma fazer, mesmo nas cenas mais gongóricas. James Gandolfini’s last movie, THE DROP is about a Chechen mafia in Brooklin, after a robbery managed by two cousins, Bob (Tom Hardy) and Marv (Gandolfini). There is no attempt at the grandiose here, despite all the history and slightly exaggerated characters involved (mostly bad ones). And that's the beauty of the movie, which manages not just realism but a welcome tenderness amidst all the darkness and bad intentions. The one bright spot is, tragically, Gandolfini, who manages to be really funny even as he about to do terrible things. Hardy is just the opposite, showing a huge heart with utter sobriety even as he, too, is going to do terrible things. Disney Plus.

4474 - APOCALYPSE - WW2 DOCUMENTARY - 6 EPISÓDIOS (2009)

APOCALYPSE – 6 EPISÓDIOS (França, 2009) - This is a World War 2 documentary like no other. It contains a brilliant musical overture, often haunting but superbly executed. The Second World War (2009) is a six-part French documentary about the Second World War. The documentary is composed exclusively of footage of the war filmed by war correspondents, soldiers, resistance fighters, and private citizens. The series is shown in color, with the black and white footage fully colorized, save for some original color footage. The only exception to the treatment is most Holocaust scenes, which are presented in the original black and white. The documentary shows the development of the Second World War chronologically and interestingly. It is narrated from a very objective point of view and therefore the educational level is very high. YouTube.

4473 - SUNSHINE - ALERTA SOLAR (2007)

 

SUNSHINE, ALERTA SOLAR (SUNSHINE, USA, 2007) – Ficção científica com Cillian Murphy e Chris Evans (antes de Thomas Shelby e Capitão América) no comando de uma missão para reacender o sol com uma bomba de fissão nuclear. Os dois primeiros terços do filme são muito bons, mas o desfecho ficou deslocado. Chris Evans é o destaque, com seu personagem cabeça quente imprimindo uma gravidade essencial ao seu papel. Sci-fi with Cillian Murphy and Chris Evans (before Thomas Shelby and Captain America) leading a mission to reignite the sun with a nuclear fission bomb. The first 2 acts of the film are absolutely engrossing but the last act is out of place. I thought Chris Evans stole the acting honors with his character's hot temper giving gravitas to his role.
