GORDON (USA, England, 1980) – O produtor italiano
Dino De Laurentiis já tinha afrontado o mundo do cinema com uma versão malfeita
de KING KONG, em 1976. Não satisfeito, resolveu investir pesado na refilmagem de
Flash Gordon, o herói espacial criado por Alex Raymond. Megalômano e um pouco
sem noção, ele queria Arnold Schwarzenegger como astro principal e Federico
Fellini na direção. Não conseguiu nenhum dos dois, e, revista hoje, a aventura
se revela uma divertida comédia com visual espalhafatoso e atores de várias nacionalidades
falando um inglês abaixo do nível. O ator que faz Flash, Sam J. Jones, é ruim
de doer, mas divide cenas com o grande Max von Sydow e a bela Ornella Mutti. A trilha
sonora do QUEEN torna tudo palatável e, sem ironia, altamente psicodélico. The Italian producer Dino De Laurentiis had already
affronted the universe of cinema with a lousy version of KING KONG, in 1976. Dissatisfied
with the result, he decided to invest heavily on the remake of FLASH GORDON,
the special hero created by Alex Raymond. Megalomaniac and a little bit out of
it, he wanted Arnold Schwarzenegger as the star and Federico Fellini as the
director. He could not get any of them. Revised today, the adventure has become
an amusing comedy with flashy looks and multinational actors speaking something
that barely resembles the English language. The actor who plays Flash, Sam J. Jones,
is painfully bad but shares scenes with the great Max von Sydow and the
ravishing Ornella Mutti. The soundtrack, in charge of QUEEN, makes everything
more psychedelic (no pun intended).
