 ATAQUE DOS CÃES (THE POWER OF THE DOG, 2021) – No velho oeste americano, nos anos 20, o rancheiro Phil Burbank (Benedict Cumberbatch, magnífico, como sempre), inspira medo em todos à sua volta. Quando seu irmão (Jesse Plemons, perfeito no contraponto com Cumberbatch) chega com a esposa (Kirsten Dunst, inesperadamente bem no papel) e o filho dela, Phil os persegue implacavelmente, na tentativa de fugir de suas próprias verdades. O filme de Jane Campion (O PIANO, 1993) é uma alegoria bíblica, contida no título original, e é espetacular na sua linha narrativa, explorando todas as possibilidades dos tempos mortos nas longas cenas na quais os personagens parecem conversar com eles mesmos. When his brother (Jesse Plemons, perfect counterpart to Cumberbatch) brings home a new wife (Kirsten Dunst, unexpectedly acceptable on the role) and her son, Phil torments them in order to conceal his own truths. Jane Campion’s movie is a biblical allegory – as shown in the original title – and is spectacular in its narrative line, exploring all possibilities of silences and dead spaces in the long scenes in which the characters seem to talk to themselves. The highlight is, of course, Cumberbatch. Netflix.
