APRESENTANDO OS RICARDOS
(BEING THE RICARDOS, USA, 2021) – Lucille Ball
foi uma das maiores estrelas da TV americana nos anos 50. Seu programa, I LOVE
LUCY, era um sucesso estrondoso. Com tanta exposição, não demorou que o
Macarthismo começasse a persegui-la, no contexto da paranoia vermelha nos EUA,
no início da Guerra Fria, acusando-a de laços com o Comunismo. O filme só faz
sentido para quem está familiarizado com o processo de produção das sitcoms da
época, sempre pressionado pelos patrocinadores, em geral, machistas e
autoritários. Não sei se Nicole Kidman foi a melhor escolha para viver Lucy –
sua atuação é correta, mas, em muitas cenas, está ausente o histrionismo da
comediante. Por outro lado, Javier Bardem está perfeito como o cubano Desiderio
Arnaz, apaixonado por Lucy, mas incapaz de se livrar da vida boêmia, razão do
fim do casamento dos dois. No elenco, J.K. Simmons, sempre ótimo, e um destaque
para uma atriz, no mínimo, geradora de interesse: Nina Arianda, no papel de
Vivian Lance. Prime.
Lucille Ball was one of the greatest TV stars of the 50s. Her show, I LOVE
LUCY, was an incredible hit. Being so famous, she could not escape from
Macarthism, in the context of the red paranoia in the US, during the Cold War. She
was accused of being a communist. The movie only makes sense for those familiar
with the sitmcom production process of the time, always pressed by the sexist
and authoritarian sponsors. I am not sure if Nicole Kidman was the best choice
for the main role – her performance is ok, but Ball’s natural histrionism is
missing. On the other hand, Javier Bardem is perfect as the Cuban Desiderio
Arnaz, in love with Lucy, but unable to leave the bohemian life, which
eventually ended their marriage. J. K. Simmons is always great, and Nina
Arianda, as Vivian Lance, is one of those actresses who draw our interest.
