LEITOR (THE READER, USA, Alemanha, 2008) – Como não amar um
filme cujo um dos temas principais é a leitura de livros? Nos entreatos do
amor, o adolescente Michael (David Kross) lê trechos de romances para Hanna (Kate
Winslet), sem saber que esta experiência literária haverá de modificar a vida
dos dois. Como imaginar o que vai acontecer quando um garoto de 16 anos, com febre,
é ajudado por uma mulher mais velha, na Alemanha ocidental, em 1958? Winslet dá
ao seu personagem uma mistura de compaixão e dureza abrasiva, especialmente quando
transforma seus encontros com Michael em oportunidades tanto redentoras quanto
passionais. E Ralph Fiennes está perfeito como o Michael adulto, especialmente
quando se pergunta como pôde ter amado uma pessoa sobre a qual conhecia tão pouco.
Mas, convenhamos, não é
sempre assim? How not to love a movie whose one of the main themes is book
reading? In the interstices of lovemaking, teenager Michael (David Kross) reads
passages of romances to Hanna (Kate Winslet), unaware that this literary experience
will shape their lives. How to imagine what is going to happen when an older
woman, in West Germany in 1958, helps a feverish 16-year-old boy? Winslet fills
her character with a mixture of compassion and abrasive hardness, especially when
transforms her encounters with Michael into redemptive and passionate moments,
striking a perfect balance between directness and desire. And Ralph Fiennes is
perfect as the adult Michael, especially when he wonders how he could have loved
someone about whom he knew so little. But, let’s face it: isn’t it always like
that?
