Emocionante. This was Roberto Rossellini’s revelation, a harrowing drama about the Nazi occupation of Rome and the brave few who struggled against it. Though told with more melodramatic flair than the films that would follow it to form The War Trilogy. Open City, Italian Neorealist film, released in 1945, portraying life in Nazi-occupied Rome during World War II. Directed by Roberto Rossellini in a documentary style that was innovative for the time, the movie brought international attention to the Neo-realist movement and became one of its defining works, influencing numerous later filmmakers.
