décadas, desde a II Guerra até 1972, passara segredos nucleares para a KGB. Durante
a guerra, estudante brilhante de física, ela fora convocada para ajudar nas pesquisas
nucleares da Inglaterra e, em certo momento, se norteou por uma lógica simples:
se os dois lados tivessem a bomba atômica, ninguém a usaria. Interpretada por
Judi Dench na velhice e por Sophie Cookson na juventude, Melita vai dando sua
versão, enquanto as autoridades questionam suas ações. O fato de ter passado
despercebida por tanto tempo, comprova a tradicional misoginia na área científica.

Norwood admited that, for almost two decades, since WW2 to 1972, had passed
nuclear secrets to KGB. During the war, a bright Physics student, Melita had
been summoned to help in the nuclear research in England, and at certain point,
followed a simple and naïve logic: if the two parts had the atomic bomb, nobody
would use it. Played by Judi Dench during old age, and Sophie Cookson during
youth, Melita (Joan, in the movie) tells the authorities her version of the
facts. The fact that it took so long for her to be found, corroborates the traditional
