ROMA (MÉXICO, USA, 2018) – o efeito pictórico da fotografia em preto e branco é tão magnífico, que inebria – a imensa e precisa profundidade de foco (o segundo plano é tão nítido quanto o que se mostra em primeiro), marcando magistralmente as cisões existenciais que todos experimentamos: o que está na frente é a parte objetiva da narrativa; o que está atrás, a subjetiva. E as memórias do diretor Alfonso Cuarón, de Gravidade, vão brotando na tela, reconstruindo um ano, entre 1970 e 1971, crucial na sua infância, nos eventos do seu México natal e na vida de Cleo (a impressionante Yalitza Aparicio), empregada da família. Não há como negar a atmosfera semelhante ao mesmo período no Brasil. De alguma forma, Cuarón nos transporta à infância, pela forma como, durante o filme, passamos a observar os acontecimentos, sem entender muito bem o que se passa, como as próprias crianças da casa onde Cleo trabalha. É uma tensão inexplicada e, como tudo que independe da razão, emociona como se fosse a primeira vez. Cuarón faz um cinema de primeira qualidade, imprimindo em seus filmes a perenidade e o encanto próprios das obras-primas. The pictorial effect of the black and white photography is so magnificent that inebriates – the huge and precise focus depth (the background mode is as outlined as front one), which marks masterfully the existential disjuncture we all experience: what is in front is the objective part of the narrative; what is behind, the subjective one. And the memories of Alfonso Cuarón thrive on the screen, rebuilding one year between 1970 and 197, crucial in his childhood, during the events in Mexico, his homeland, and in the life of Cleo (the impressing Yalitza Aparicio), the family maid. The resemblance with the atmosphere in Brazil, during the same era, is undeniable. Somehow, Cuarón brings us back to our own childhood, making us feel like the children of the story: incapable to understand what is going on around them. It is an unexplained tension and like everything that does not depend on reason touches in an unprecedented way. Cuaron's works are top-notched and true masterpieces.
