4539 - A HORA DO ESPANTO (1985)

 

A HORA DO ESPANTO (FRIGHT NIGHT, USA,1985) – Clássico dos anos 80, AHDE mistura terror e comédia e bons efeitos especiais, ainda funcionais hoje. Chris Sarandon tem, talvez, a melhor atuação de sua carreira, dando vida (ou morte) ao vampiro Jerry Dandrige, num estilo cool, carregado numa sexualidade ambígua típica das últimas encarnações do personagem. Roddy Mc Dowall tem a oportunidade de mostrar seu talento, sem a persona de Cornelius. O filme não ficou datado e ainda conserva o interesse, também em função da boa trilha sonora incidental e do roteiro bem equilibrado. Classic of the 80s, FN is a blend of comedy and horror and decent special effects, still functional today. Chris Sarandon has probably his best performance playing the vampire Jerry Dandridge in a cool style and an ambiguous sexuality tipycal of the most recent embodiment of the character. Roddy McDowall displays his talent without the Cornelius’ persona. The movie aged well and is still attractive due to the good incidental soundtrack and well-balanced script. Prime.

THE BIG BANG THEORY TEMP 6 24 EPISÓDIOS (USA, 2013) – Alguns ótimos episódios: os rapazes vão a uma Comicom vestidos como os personagens de Star Trek são assaltados (Ep. 13); Sheldon arruma uma assistente ,e ela dá em cima de Leonard, causando ciúmes em Penny (Ep 12); e o mais engraçado, principalmente pela primeira participação de Bob Newhart, como professor Próton, é quando Seldon e Leonard o recebem para uma apresentação em casa (Ep 22). Esta temporada acentua a relação de Leonard e Penny, assim como a de Sheldon e Amy, além de explorar mais o universo de Raj e sua aproximação com Lucy, dando chance a Kunal Nayyar de desenvolver seu personagem. Some great episodes: the boys go to Comicom dressed like Star Trek characters and are robbed (ep13); Sheldon gets an assistant, and she hits on Leonard, making Penny jealousy (ep12); and the funniest episode, mainly because of Bob Newhart’s first appearance as professor Proton, is when Sheldon and Leonard have him for a show at home (ep22). This season deepens Leonard and Penny’s relationship, as well as Sheldon and Amy’s, besides the expansion of Raj’s universe and his girlfriend Lucy, providing Kunal Nayyar with room to develop his character. KLEO - 8 EPISÓDIOS (KLEO, Alemanha, 2022) – Nada muito original: uma mulher em busca de vingança. Mas, ainda assim, KLEO é um thriller satisfatório ao longo dos oitos episódios da primeira temporada, misturando drama familiar, algum humor teutônico, uma improvável protagonista – tudo isso tendo como pano de fundo a queda do muro de Berlim e os contrastes entre as duas Alemanhas. Kleo (Jella Haase) é uma mistura de Beatrix Kiddo com Arya Stark, hábil no uso de disfarces e na eliminação de seus inimigos, ao som de sucessos da música pop. O roteiro lembra os filmes de Tarantino, como BASTARDOS INGLÓRIOS e ERA UMA VEZ EM HOLLYWOOD, inseridos num contexto histórico. Nothing very original: a woman seeking revenge. But KLEO is still a satisfactory thriller throughout the first season’s eight episodes, gathering family drama, some Teutonic humor, an improbable protagonist – everything before and after the fall of Berlin Wall in 1989, and the contrasts between the two Germanys. Here's why: Its heroine, Kleo, is a cocky female assassin, a blend of Beatriz Kiddo and Arya Stark, who wears wigs, struts around in disguises and knocks people off to the accompaniment of pop songs. The story equally recalls Tarantino movies like Inglourious Basterds and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood that fool around with historical facts. Netflix.      

  

4536 - VIAGEM AO FUNDO DO MAR - TEMP 3 - EPISÓDIO 19 - A SEREIA (1967)

 

VIAGEM AO FUNDO DO MAR, TEMP. 3, EPISÓDIO 19 – A SEREIA (USA, 1967) – A terceira temporada de VAFDM foi recheada de monstros, e isso foi um fator de mudança nos roteiros, levando os atores a se adaptarem a situações irreais, nas quais a suspensão de descrença se tornou obrigatória. Um exemplo disso, é este episódio mostrando Lee (David Hedison) apaixonado por uma sereia (!). Dá para ver Richard Basehart se esforçando para dar alguma seriedade à história. Irwin Allen, como sempre, aproveitou várias sequências de outras produções para baratear as filmagens. Apesar disso, a série ainda tem um apelo à imaginação, principalmente pelas sequências submarinas, o esguio SeaView e, claro, o subvoador, meu sonho de infância (e do resto da vida também). The third season of VTTBOTS was fraught with monsters, and it was a changing factor in the scripts, making the actors adapt to irreal situations, in which the suspension of disbelief was mandatory. This episode is an example such turning of events: Lee (David Hedison) falls in love with a mermaid (!). You can see Richard Basehart trying to provide some seriousness to the story. Irwin Allen, as always, used several sequences of other productions to save money. Despite this, the show still has some appeal to imagination, mainly because of the submarine footage, the slim SeaView and, of course, the Flying-sub, my childhood dream (to tell the truth, it still is…).     

       

4535 - GUERRA SEM REGRAS (2024)

 

GUERRA SEM REGRAS (THE MINISTRY OF UNGENTLEMANLY WARFARE, UK, 2024) – GSR é dirigido por Guy Ritchie, com Henry Cavill como protagonista numa atuação muito boa. A ação se baseia numa operação britânica na WW2 e é contada com estilo e diálogos razoáveis, numa atmosfera meio tarantinesca limitada pela própria história. The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is directed by Guy Ritchie and stars Henry Cavill – he seems comfortable in the role and doesn't disappoint, keeps the pace going and interactions between everyone are fun to watch. It is (very) loosely based on a true story of a British WW2 covert operation called 'Operation Postmaster'. This film is cool and stylish but delivers much less than its premises. It's filled with swaggering characters spouting cheeky dialogue. A few scenes felt very Tarantino-esque in their hyper-violence or intensity, but they likely couldn't be taken further because of the limitations of a true story. Prime.  

4534 - O PREDADOR (1987)

O PREDADOR (THE PREDATOR, USA, 1987) – Clássico dos anos 80, o filme de John McTiernan (DIE HARD, 1988) traz Arnold Schwarzenegger no ápice da sua reserva de testotesrona, no meio da selva, lutando contra um alienígena que poderia ser morto, porque sangra. O filme não ficou datado, graças aos cortes rápidos (duplo sentido, por favor) nas cenas nas quais o predador retalha suas vítimas. O elemento diferencial aqui é o cenário da floresta, onde se dá o confronto entre Arnnie e o forasteiro, enquanto esses embates geralmente eram feitos no espaço, como em ALIENS. Classic of the 80s, John McTiernan (DIE HARD, 1988) brings Arnold Schawarzenegger at this prime, in the middle of the jungle, fighting an alien that could be killed because it bleeds. The movie has aged well due to the fast cuts (pun intended, please) during the scenes in which the predator slices its victims. The different aspect here is the jungle where the confrontation between Arnie and the alien, as these situations generally take place in space, as in ALIENS. Disney Plus.

CONSPIRAÇÃO (CONSPIRACY, USA, 2001) – A conferência de Wannsee, em 20 de janeiro de 1942, foi uma espécie de missa negra celebrada por Reinhard Heydrich, diante de alguns figurões da cúpula do III Reich. Apesar de já em curso, a solução final para a questão judia teve seu chancelamento nesta reunião, onde Adolf Eichmann foi o mestre de cerimônia. Os registros da conferência foram destruídos, e o filme reconstitui o encontro com base no depoimento de Eichmann durante seu julgamento em Israel. Kenneth Branagh interpreta Heydrich com o ódio e a frieza características do Açougueiro de Praga, enquanto Stanley Tucci, como Eichmann, e Colin Firth, como Wilhelm Stuckart, advogado e autor das Leis de Nuremberg, compõem o elenco. Uma curiosidade: filme de estreia de Tom Hiddleston, como um telefonista mudo. The Wannsee conference, on January 20th, 1942, was a kind of black mass celebrated by Reinhard Heydrich, with the presence of some big shots of the III Reich top rulers. Despite already in course, the Final Solution of the Jewish Question had its approval in this meeting, in which Adolf Eichmann was the master of ceremony. The records of the conference were destroyed, and the movie is based on Eichmann’s testimony during his trial in Israel. Kenneth Branagh plays Heydrich with the Butcher of Prague’s hatred and coldness, while Stanley Tucci, as Eichmann, and Colin Firth, as Wilhelm Stuckart, lawyer and author of the Nuremberg Laws are also in the cast. A trivia: Tom Hiddleston’s film debut, as a mute telephone operator. Prime.

THE DAY HEYDRICH BECAME THE MOST FEARED NAZI IN EUROPE (USA, 2024) - As SS-Obergruppenführer, Heydrich was instrumental in consolidating the SS as a dominant force in the Third Reich. His leadership in the Reich Main Security Office, and later in the Gestapo, allowed him to implement his vision of an efficient and feared security organization. Heydrich's rise culminated in his appointment as Protector of Bohemia and Moravia, and he was widely considered a potential heir to Hitler, given his iron-fisted control and unwavering loyalty to the Führer. The relationship between Hitler and Heydrich was one of mutual admiration and dependence. Hitler needed men like Heydrich to carry out his vision for the Third Reich, and Heydrich, in turn, benefited from his proximity to the leader. Heydrich, the cold and calculating man, had an almost symbiotic relationship with Hitler. It was said that Hitler saw in him an extension of himself, someone he could trust blindly to carry out the most horrific tasks without a hint of doubt or remorse. YouTube.

O SEXTO HOMEM (THE OUTSIDER, USA, 1961) – This is a solid study of a historical figure (one of the GIs who raised the flag on Iwo Jima) and how he struggled to deal with the title of "hero" after the photo of the flag raising became a patriotic icon. Tony Curtis gave the viewer a great insight into the pain felt by this misguided Hero. This film is a somewhat accurate account of Ira Hayes' story and is well-meaning, but it suffers from the fatal miscasting of Tony Curtis. Curtis tries hard, but the idea of a Brooklyn-voiced actor slathered in bronzer playing an ordinary-looking man from Arizona is ludicrous. YouTube.

HITLER EM CORES (HITLER IN COLOR, USA, 2005) - Documentary using only original color footage charts the 12 years from Adolf Hitler's rise to power to the fall of Berlin in 1945. Complemented by eyewitness material, tracks the dramatic transformation of Germany into a Nazi state, looks into Hitler's relationship with his lover Eva Braun and replicates pivotal events, including Nazi rallies, the invasion of Poland, Hitler's meeting with Lloyd George, the horrors of Buchenwald concentration camp, Warsaw's Jewish Ghetto, the Battle of Britain and the fall of Berlin. POSSUÍDOS (FALLEN, USA, 1998) – Denzel Washington é obrigatório, mas há outros neste filme: Donald Sutherland, John Goodman e James Gandolfini. Reunindo thriller policial e elementos sobrenaturais, o roteiro gira em torno de um policial, John Hobbes  (sim, o nome é proposital), interpretado por Denzel, investigando uma série de assassinados atribuídos ao anjo Azazel. O nome do personagem de Denzel é a junção de Hobbes e Locke, filósofos do século 17. Hobbes acreditava no controle da sociedade sobre os homens, enquanto Locke defendia a postura racional e auto disciplinada das pessoas. Estes temas são explorados no roteiro, além das questões metafísicas. Denzel Washington is mandatory as well as Donald Sutherland, John goodman and James Goldofini. Connecting cop thriller and sobrenatural elements, the scritp is about na agent, John Hobbes (Denzel) investigating crime attributed to angel Azazel. As pessoas que gostam de gatos vão ter uma boa surpresa no decorrer da história. The name John Hobbes is based on two philosophers from the 17th century, Thomas Hobbes and John Locke. Hobbes generally thought that men were evil, and needed the constraints of society to make them better. Locke thought that men are thinking, rational creatures capable of peaceful co-existence. These two themes are explored in the film, besides the metaphysical issues. Cat lovers will have a pleasant surprise in the story. Prime.

LOUCOS POR JUSTIÇA (RIDERS OF JUSTICE, Dinamarca, 2020) – Madds Milkelsen é obrigatório – neste filme, ele é um homem sofrendo por uma grande perda, caracaterística comum entre os outros personagens, todos prourando um sentido neste mundo, entre sentimentos de vingança e de resgate de relações de amizade. It's not a revenge-movie per se, but deals with issues like parenthood, friendship, and forgiveness. Riders for Justice is a multi-character driven exploration into desperate humans struggling for some meaning in this world. The film is based around the premise of a tragic, inexplicable loss - this leads the main characters to use rash judgement to seek revenge, each with their own justification for wanting to partake in this revenge. A VÍTIMA INVISÍVEL – O CASO ELIZA SAMUDIO (Brasil, 2024) – O documentário sobre esse caso escabroso do goleiro Bruno e o assassinato de Eliza segue a estrutura tradicional deste tipo de produção, com um pé no sensacionalismo, mas também com eficiência, mostrando, principalmente, os personagens periféricos da história e o fato chocante de Bruno ter se tornado uma celebridade depois de ter saído da prisão. The documentary about the gruesome case of goalkeeper Bruno and the Eliza’s murder follows the traditional structure of this kind of production, somewhat sensacionalist, but also efficient, showing the peripheral characters and the shocking fact that Bruno has become a celebrity after released from prison. THE BIG BANG THEORY TEMP 5 24 EPISÓDIOS (USA, 2012) – Episode 16, The Vacation Solution, When the university forces Sheldon to use vacation days, he hangs out in Amy's lab. Howard becomes upset when he hears Bernadette wants him to sign a prenuptial agreement; and in episode 19, The Werewolf Transformation, Sheldon wreaks havoc when he tries to get a haircut from his regular barber, who is ill. Howard runs into a few problems with astronaut training. Prime.

4525 - AGORA ESTAMOS SOZINHOS (2018)

AGORA ESTAMOS SOZINHOS (I THINK WE’RE ALONE NOW, USA, 2018) – Peter Dinklage e Elle Fanning são protagonistas deste filme sobre um futuro distópico não tão original quanto a premissa fazia supor. Não há cenas de ação nem zumbis se arrastando pelas ruas. As cenas longas contribuem para uma atmosfera intimista, e a aproximação dos dois personagens sugere um mistério conveniente ao roteiro, cujo twist no terço final apenas causa estranheza. Mas há livros e uma biblioteca, uma boa compensação para o fim do mundo. Peter Dinklage e Elle Fanning are the protagonists of this dystopic movie not as original as its premise indicates. There are no action sequences or zombies crawling along the streets. The long scenes contribute to a intimist atmosphere, and the bond between the two main characters suggests a mystery that is convenient to the script whose twist just causes strangeness. But there are books and a library, a good compensation for the end of the world. Prime.

4524 - JOGO DE PODER (2010)

 JOGO DE PODER (FAIR GAME, USA, 2010) – Uma agente da CIA tem sua identidade revelada, depois do artigo de seu marido num jornal, desmentindo o governo Bush sobre as armas de destruição em massa no Iraque. The film has its flaws, though. The pacing could be a bit tighter and the dialog in Iraq doesn't sound genuinely Iraqi. However, Doug Liman's direction is enough to keep the tension gripping and the film focused on the characters, not just glimpses of the war and scandal. Joe Wilson and Valerie Plane are the attractive protagonists of this thriller that looks and feels like a work of fiction. They are played by the wonderful Sean Penn and Naomi Watts, although the hand-held camera and the digital thing worked against them. 

4523 - WISE GUY: DAVID CHASE AND THE SOPRANOS (2024)

WISE GUY: DAVID CHASE AND THE SOPRANOS (USA, 2024) – Documentário excelente sobre o criador de OS SOPRANOS, com boas entrevistas com o elenco e membros da produção. A parte mais emocionante, claro, é com James Gandolfini e sua contribuição visceral para o sucesso da série. A segunda parte do documentário é dedicada a ele, com toda justiça. Atenção para a influência de 2001 – UMA ODISSÉIA NO ESPAÇO no episódio final da série. What made “The Sopranos” rare if not unique was the amount of freedom the show was given. Because most of us got to know him as Tony Soprano before we ever met the actor, Gandolfini comes across as almost shockingly sweet. Much of the second episode is devoted to him, the toll of living inside Tony, or Tony living inside him, and of the long hours the part required. Analysis of the show, by Chase and others, is thorough, sometimes surprising — the staging of the finale was influenced by “2001: A Space Odyssey” — and sometimes poetic. You may not have grasped the importance of the lyric, “The movie never ends, it goes on and on and on and on,” from Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’,” which plays through the last scene, but it illuminates that abrupt black screen. SEX KITTENS GO TO COLLEGE (USA, 1960) – Mamie Van Doren era um genérico de Marilyn Monroe, com o mesmo cabelo platinado e as mesmas curvas. Nesta comédia sexista, ela é uma professora com 13 diplomas e altíssimo QI numa típica universidade americana. O choque cultural (e escultural) é inevitável, gerando gags mais ou menos engraçadas, num raio X do machismo do cinema americano da época. Além disso, chama a atenção o elenco com vários atores importantes em papéis pequenos: John Carradine, Martin Milner, Jackie Coogan, Mijanou Bardot (irmã de Brigitte), Tuesday Weld e os filhos de dois gênios do cinema – Charlie Chaplin e Harold Lloyd. O roteiro é repleto de piadas misóginas e estereótipos nada lisonjeiros com as mulheres. No entanto, vale notar a boa atuação de Van Doren, em contraste com o raso escopo de seu personagem. Está no YouTube, na íntegra e com a cena de strip-tease, a quem interessar possa. Mamie Van Doren was an alternative for Marilyn Monroe, with the same platinum blonde hair and the same curves. In this sexist comedy, she is a teacher with 13 degrees and high IQ at a typical American university. The cultural – and sculptural - clash is inevitable, causing some funny gags and an X-Ray of the macho view of the American cinema at the time. Besides, the very well know cast is something to be checked: John Carradine, Martin Milner, Jackie Coogan, Mijanou Bardot (Brigitte’s sister), Tuesday Weld e the sons of two movie geniuses – Charlie Chaplin and Harold Lloyd. The script is fraught with misogynist jokes and stereotypes that do not appease women at all. However, Van Doren’s performance is worth seeing despite the shallow scope of her character. The movie is on YouTube, to whom it may interest, with the striptease scene.  

    

4521 - ASSASSINO POR ACASO (2023)

ASSASSINO POR ACASO (HIT MAN, USA, 2023) – Glen Powell é um professor e finge ser um assassino profissional para prender os contratantes, a serviço da polícia. Richard Linklater dirige com leveza essa comédia tépida, mas eficiente como passatempo sem grandes pretensões. O roteiro é ruim – há uma série de situações implausíveis, como o fato de um professor comum ter a habilidade dramática de se transformar em um falso assassino capaz de convencer as pessoas. A presença de Adria Ajorna ajuda em muito para tornar o filme atraente. Glen Powell is a teacher who pretends to be a professional hitman in order to allow people to be arrested by the police. Richard Linklater directs this lukewarm, albeit efficient, comedy. The script is lousy – there are plenty of unplausible situations, like the fact that a mild-mannered teacher be able to use a wide range of disguises and accents to convince people he is a serial killer. Adria Ajorna’s presence helps make the movie much more interesting. Prime.

VIAGEM AO FUNDO DO MAR – 110 EPISÓDIOS - (VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA, USA, 1964 – 1968) – Criação de Irwin Allen, VTTBOTS é um dos marcos da ficção científica na TV nos anos 60. Na primeira temporada, as histórias giravam em torno de assuntos mais políticos, com laivos de espionagem. Esse tom mais sério foi relaxando com o passar do tempo, dando espaço a aventuras de ficção científica, sempre povoada com monstros reciclados de outras produções de Allen, uma das caraterísticas do famoso produtor. Um dos pontos altos da série é o elenco, encimado por Richard Basehart, um ator notável (trabalhou com Fellini em A ESTRADA) e David Hedison, totalmente adaptado ao personagem. Outra atração irresistível é, sem dúvida, o SeaView, um submarino atômico com janelas frontais, mais parecido com uma nave espacial e um dos responsáveis por nossas brincadeiras na piscina e na orla de Araruama. Havia de tudo um pouco nesta fase fantasiosa da série, mas o que mais fascinava era o sub-voador, cujo nome autoexplicativo era  senha para vermos uma das maravilhas dos efeitos especiais mecânicos da época, com todas as licenças poéticas possíveis. A série é derivada do longa com Water Pidgeon, de 1961, com um formato bem parecido, mas havia uma atração capaz de literalmente roubar todas as cenas: Barbara Eden fazia parte da tripulação. Curiosamente, a série também se caracterizava por ser um programa quase que exclusivamente masculino, pois eram raras as presenças femininas nos roteiros. Creeated by Irwin Allen, VTTBOTS is a landmark of science fiction TV in the 60s. in the first season, the themes were more political, with a mixture of Cold War era espionage stories and sci-fi tinted spy/adventures stories. In the subsequent seasons, the sci-fi approach was more evident, with monsters and props recycled from other shows. One of the highlights of the show is the cast: Richard Basehart and David Hedison. Besides, the glass-nosed submarine SeaView, and the flying-sub, whose self-explained name was the password of the mechanical effects of the time. The show is a spin-off of the 1961 movie, with Walter Pidgeon, that has a special attracton: Barbara Eden. It was a male show, and the feminine characters were scarce along the seasons.

HOW WOULD THE THOUSAND-YEAR REICH HAVE BEEN? – Este documentário relata como seria o mundo, se a Alemanha tivesse ganhado a Guerra e ampliado seus domínios pelo planeta. Uma parte interessante é a questão da sucessão de Hitler: primeiro, ficaria com Himmler e, depois, seria ocupada por uma pessoa anônima, por motivos de segurança. Adolf Hitler imagined a future where Germany would be a dominant power and the center of an empire destined to last a thousand years. His ambition went far beyond the military or political; he aspired to create a new world order, a Reich that would rule over a world unified under Aryan supremacy. For the Führer, this empire would be the pinnacle of human civilization, with Germany at the helm of a world unified under his iron fist. Germania was at the heart of this vision, a city meant to symbolize the greatness and power of the Third Reich. Designed by Albert Speer, Germania was to be the capital of this new world, a monumental metropolis that would eclipse all others. With its colossal buildings and intimidating architecture, the city would be the physical manifestation of National Socialist supremacy, a place where the power of the Reich would be felt in every corner, and where future generations would look for inspiration.  LAS GRIETAS DE JARA (Argentina, 2018) – Thriller como o grande Oscar Martinez e Soledad Villamil (O Segredo de seus Olhos). O roteiro tem algumas pontas soltas, com situações inconclusas (a filha e a esposa de Pablo poderiam ser excluídas da história e ninguém perceberia). O desfecho críptico dá uma sensação de que o potencial da trama não foi devidamente explorado. Nice performances, especially Oscar Martinez and Joaquin Furriel (Pablo). The real problem lies on the missing coherence: moral problems, a beautiful young woman without a real specific place, the honest guy lost in the middle of a crime. The film could be developed in a more careful way.

4517 - THE BIG BANG THEORY - TEMP 4 - 24 EPISÓDIOS (2010)

 THE BIG BANG THEORY – TEMP 4 – 24 EPISÓDIOS (USA, 2010) – Alguns episódios em destaque: o segundo, The Cruciferous Vegetable Amplification, é um clássico – nele, Sheldon quer viver para sempre e se transforma num robot.; The Thespian Catalyst, episódio 14, em que Sheldon tem aulas de teatro com Penny; no episódio 21, The Agreement Dissection, Penny Amy e Bernadette levam Sheldon a uma boate, depois que Prya descobre algumas brechas no Roomate Agreement entre ele e Leonard; no episódio 22, The Wildbeest Implementation, Sheldon inventa um jogo de xadrez para três pessoas e Raj testa uma nova droga para sua ansiedade social. O relacionamento de Leonard e Prya parece um pouco artificial e só funciona para aumentar a tensão entre ele e Penny. De fato, houve um redimensionamento da relação entre os dois, o que deveria trazer Leonard para um amadurecimento emocional prejudicado por sua relação com Prya – afinal, se ela o deixou para voltar para a Índia, o renascimento da sua relação com Penny pareceu ficar dependente disso. Injusto com Penny, a meu ver. Some episodes are great: the Cruciferous Vegetal Amplification is a classic – Sheldon wants to live forever and has his consciousness transferred to a robotic form. The Shelbot is such a wonderful plot element because it is so perfectly a Sheldon thing.

O PILOTO: UMA BATALHA PELA SOBREVIVÊNCIA (LETCHIK, Rússia, 2021) - During a mission in WWII, the plane of Nikolai Komlev is shot down. He manages to bring his plane down in a remote forest clearing, but far from friendly territory, he faces a relentless test of physical and mental endurance. The performances were decent and mostly convincing, but the cinematography was the standout feature, as it was excellent. This WWII movie is superbly made, with great cinematography and superb aerial effects. Prime.

O JULGAMENTO DE NUREMBERG (NUREMBERG, USA, 2000) – Minissérie mostrando didaticamente a constituição do tribunal internacional responsável pela condenação dos 24 criminosos nazistas. Brian Cox está perfeito como Göering, retratando-o como vaidoso e manipulador, apesar de se mostrar simpático em diversas ocasiões. Alec Baldwin é o promotor Robert Jackson, indicado por Roosevelt e, na série, tem um romance com sua secretária, uma imprecisão histórica justificada apenas como uma atração narrativa. Miniseries showing didactically the preparations of the trial for crimes against humanity. Brian Cox is perfect as Goring, portraying him as vain and manipulator, despite his flamboyant behavior on several occasions. Alec Baldwin is promoter Robert Jackson, indicated by Roosevelt and, in the series, has an affair with his secretary, a historical imprecision only justified as a narrative attraction. 4514 - NA LINHA DE FOGO (1993)

NA LINHA DE FOGO (IN THE LINE OF FIRE,USA, 1993) – Clint Eastwood é obrigatório. NLF ainda é um bom thriller, dirigido com competência por Wolfgang Petersen. Clint é Frank Corrigan um veterano agente do Serviço Secreto remanescente da equipe de Kennedy no dia do seu assassinato, ainda traumatizado por acreditar ter falhado na proteção do presidente. O personagem é baseado em Clint Hill. John Malkovich é um psicopata que resolve explorar o sentimento de culpa de Corrigan e está perfeito como um sádico infantilizado obcecado por ele. Atenção para a cena de Clint lembrando do dia da morte de Kennedy – um dos raros momentos em sua cinebiografia em que ele se emociona em um filme. Rene Russo está mal escalada, mas Clint arrasa nas cenas tocando piano. Clint Eastwood is mandatory. ITLF is a good thriller, competently      directed by Wolfgang Petersen. Clint é Frank Corrigan is a veteran Secret Service agent who feels guilty of Kennedy’s death on November 22^nd 1963. The character is based on Clint Hill. John Malkovich is psychopath that manipulates Corrigan’s guilty and he is perfect as a childish killer obsessed with him. Attention to the scene in which Clint recalls Kennedy’s assassination and cries – a rare moment in his career. Rene Russo is miscast, but Clint rocks in the scenes playing piano. Prime.  

4513 - WALKING DEAD - DARYL DIXON - 13 EPISÓDIOS (2022)

 THE WALKING DEAD: DARYL DIXON – TEMP 1 – 13 EPISÓDIOS  (USA, 2023) – por mais estranho que possa parecer, Daryl Dixon acabou numa França pós-apocalíptica. É difícil acreditar que ele tenha atravdessado o Atlântico, mas isso isso é da natureza do showbiz. As locações são interessantes e, de certa forma, intrigante, especialmente depois de termos deixado para trás as estruturas pré apocalípticas de Atlanta. Daryl Dixon, strange as it seems, has ended up in post-apocalyptic France. It is hard to believe that the has floated across the Atlantic, but that’s showbiz. The setting and casting of the show look largely good, interesting and somewhat intriguing especially after have been removed from Atlanta, and its pre-apocalyptical structures. Prime.  

4512 - THE OUTSIDER - 10 EPISÓDIOS (2022)

 

THE OUTSIDER – 10 EPISÓDIOS (USA, 2022) – Apesar de bons atores como Ben Mendelsohn, Bill Camp e Jason Bateman, a minissérie fica monótona nos episódios intermediários. Os dois primeiros episódios, dirigidos por Bateman, são promissores, mas, depois, tudo se arrasta numa confusão angustiante. In spite of excellent actors like Ben Mendelsohn, Bill Camp and Jason Bateman, the miniseries gets dull in the subsequent episodes. First 2 episodes were very promising and intriguing, directed by Bateman who also performed as a main character. Then the next 8 episodes feel so long, dragging along the story with slow development and minor characters mixing it up. Prime.

4511 - MILLER'S GIRL (2024)

 

A GAROTA DE MILLER (MILLER’S GIRL, USA, 2024) – O filme com Jenna Ortega e Martin Freeman tem um roteiro meio “Lolita”, emulando um tipo de fantasia sombria cuja linguagem visual leva a uma atmosfera de mistério e desejo que acaba sendo uma mistura desapontadora de previsibilidade e monotonia. Há pouca química entre Ortega e Freeman, e isso compromete o resultado final repleto de clichês. De qualquer forma, é um filme sobre livros e textos – tem crédito, portanto. The movie with Jenna Ortega and Martin Freeman has a Lolita-esque script, emulating a kind of aristocrat dark fantasy whose visual language leads to an atmosphere of mystery and desire that ends up a disappointing mixture of predictability and lackluster storytelling. Ortega and Freeman lack chemistry and this compromises the final result fraught with clichés. Anyway, it is a movie about books and texts, and this is an important asset. Prime.

OPERAÇÃO CROSSBOW (USA, 1965) - Movie's basic outline concerns the development of the German V-1 and V-2 weapons and the subsequent allied attempt to infiltrate the underground factories at Peenemünde, where most of these these so-called `Vergeltungswaffen' ('revenge' weapons) were assembled. This movie is based on historical events, as the character of Hannah Reitsch, played by Barbara Rütting , was a real-life person. Reitsch was a German aviatrix and Adolf Hitler's personal pilot at one time. During the Battle of Berlin, Reitsch attempted to persuade Hitler to escape from the city in a small lightweight Fieseler Storch airplane. George Peppard and Sophia Loren almost get together, which is no spoiler. Looke.
