CABO DO MEDO (CAPE FEAR, USA, 1991) – O filme de Martin Scorsese envelheceu mal. Apesar do bom desempenho de Robert de Niro, como um psicopata em busca de vingança, a história se perde em situações ilógicas (quem tenta se esconder de um maníaco dentro de um barco, no meio de uma tempestade?) e atuações bem fraquinhas, como a de Jessica Lange – quase o tempo todo e de Nick Nolte, em alguns momentos. As presenças-relâmpago de Robert Mitchum, Gregory Peck e de Martin Balsam mais parecem um favor ao amigo diretor do que justificáveis dentro da trama: não agregam em nada e diminuem a estatura mítica dos veteranos astros. Juliette Lewis faz uma adolescente desmiolada, cujo comportamento, por si só inexplicável, não tem nada a ver com o roteiro. É um Scorsese menor, sem o brilho de outras obras do diretor. Despite Robert de Niro's good performance as a psychopath seeking revenge, the story gets lost in illogical situations (who tries to hide from a maniac inside a boat, in the middle of a storm?) and very weak performances, such as Jessica Lange's – almost all the time - and Nick Nolte's, at times. The fast presences of Robert Mitchum, Gregory Peck and Martin Balsam seem more like a favor to their director friend than justifiable within the plot: they add nothing and diminish the mythical stature of the veteran stars. Juliette Lewis plays a brainless teenager, whose behavior, in itself inexplicable, has nothing to do with the script. It is a smaller Scorsese, without the brilliance of other works by the director.
