4321 - O ÚLTIMO PORTAL (1999)

Como não gostar de um filme cujo tema é um livro?

O ÚLTIMO PORTAL (THE NINTH GATE, USA, França, Espanha, 1999) – Filme de Roman Polanski, com Johnny Depp como um especialista em livros raros, envolvido em uma conspiração enquanto procura as duas últimas cópias de um livro demoníaco. A boa premissa do roteiro é bem desenvolvida nos dois primeiros terços do filme, mas acaba se perdendo ao se aproximar do desfecho. Depp, como sempre, tem boa atuação, assim como o grandíssimo Frank Langela, mas a senhora Polanski, Emmanuelle Seigner, é a nota distoante do elenco, simplesmente porque não sabe atuar. Há muitos mistérios, contudo poucas respostas. Não espere por um desfecho arrebatador e curta apenas o desenvolvimento da trama. Roman Polanki’s film, with Jonny Depp as a book dealer who is involved in a conspiracy, while searching for the two remaning copies of an evil book. The good premise of the script is well developed in the first two parts of the movie, but ends up being a little disappointing near the ending. Depp, as always, never let you down, as the great Frank Langela, but Ms Polanski, Emmanuelle Seigner, is the low note of the cast, simply because she can not act. If you wartch it waiting for a big ending, you’ll be disappointed: the pleasure is the plot development rather than the denouement. HBO Max.

  JANELA INDISCRETA (REAR WINDOW, USA, 1954) – Clássicos dos clássicos de Hitchcock, JI continua atual: o vouyerismo de James Stewart não é muito diferente das janelas digitais de hoje. Temos ainda a discussão do o olhar fotográfico sobre uma realidade cambiante de acordo com a intenção do observador. O protagonista está preso a uma cadeira de rodas e, assim também, está o espectador: preso dentro do ponto de vista de L.B. Jeffries, de sua falta de liberdade e da escassez de suas opções. Uma análise mais profunda do filme revela claramente um paralelo entre as coisas observadas por Jeffries e sua própria vida – da sua cadeira de rodas, ele é testemunha de pequenos contos de solidão, inseridos em contextos dramáticos e repletos de humor. One of Hitchcok’s greatest films, RW still belongs to the present time: James Stewart’s voyeurism is not different from the digital windows today. There is also the discussion about the photographic approach of an everchanging reality according to the observer’s view. The protagonist is trapped in a wheelchair, and we are trapped too: trapped inside his point of view, inside his lack of freedom and his limited options. A closer reading of the film reveals clear parallels between the things Jeffries observes and his life – from his wheelchair, he witnesses little tales of loneliness and togetherness, inserted in dramatic and funny contexts.

O HOMEM QUE MATOU HITLER E O PÉ GRANDE (THE MAN WHO KILLED HITLER AND THEN THE BIGFOOT, USA, 2018) – Sam Elliot é obrigatório. O título suculento, beirando o absurdo, dá a dica do roteiro tanto original quanto aparentemente sem sentido. Na realidade, a história traz um surpreendente estudo de personalidade extremamente bem conduzido pelo diretor/roteirista Robert D. Kryzykowski, numa emocionante reflexão sobre a velhice, arrependimentos, redenção e a queda de mitos (simbolizados por Hitler e o Pé Grande). A profundidade do filme se deve muito a Elliot, um ator maiúsculo ainda muito subestimado pelo cinema americano. Sam Elliot is mandatory. The juicy title, almost absurd, is a tip to a script as original as apparently senseless. In fact, the story brings a surprising low-key character-driven study, extremely well conducted by director/writer Robert D. Kryzykowski, in a poignant meditation on aging, regret, redemption and myths falling (symbolized by Hitler and the Bigfoot). The movie benefits enormously from Elliot’s talent and charisma, a great actor still underestimated by the American cinema industry. Prime.

 PACTO BRUTAL (Brasil, 2022) – Documentário em 5 episódios sobre o assassinato de Daniella Perez. Pacto Brutal é uma produção original da HBO Max dirigida por Guto Barra e Tatiana Issa. Cada um dos cinco capítulos, com média de 60 minutos, esclarece questões importantes relacionadas do caso, como o que ocorreu no dia do crime, a descoberta dos culpados, a investigação proativa de Glória Perez, a vida pregressa de Guilherme de Pádua e Paula Thomaz e detalhes do julgamento. Documentary with five episodes about Daniella Perez’s murder. PB is an original HBO production directed by Guto Barra and Tatiana Issa. Each 60-minute episode sheds light on important issues related to the case, like what occurred on the day of the crime, how the crime authors were discovered, Gloria Perez’s proactive investigation, the past lives of Guilherme de Pádua and Paula Thomaz and details of the trial. HBO MAX.

4317 - CHERNOBYL - 5 EPISÓDIOS (2019)

CHERNOBYL (US, UK, 2019) – Minissérie em cinco episódios, do mesmo criador de THE LAST OF US, Craig Mazin, sobre a explosão na usina nuclear de Chernobyl, ao norte da Ucrânia e os subsequentes desdobramentos da contaminação radiativa no local. As cinco partes mostram a tragédia em profundidade, analisando cientificamente as circunstâncias por trás da explosão e as razões para ela ter acontecido. De fato, assistir a essa série chega a ser doloroso – os efeitos da radiação são explicitamente mostrados em todos os seus horrores. Jared Harris (filho de Richard) está soberbo no papel do cientista responsável pela revelação da verdade, mas todo o elenco também está perfeito. A cinematografia e o desenho de produção são impecáveis, assim como o roteiro e a direção. Over five carefully-paced episodes CHERNOBYL really gets into the heart of the matter, depicting the science and circumstances behind the explosion and the failures that led to it happening in the first place. Deeply unsettling and painful to watch at times, the effects of radiation poisoning are explicitly shown in all its horrors, and as horrible as it is to see. Jared Harris (son of Richard) is superb, but everyone is impressive. The cinematography and production design are beyond criticism as are the writing and direction. HBO MAX.

4316 - INDIANA JONES E O TEMPLO DA PERDIÇÃO (1984)

 INDIANA JONES E O TEMPLO DA PERDIÇÃO (INDIANA JONES AND THE TEMPLE OF DOOM, USA, 1984) – Revendo esse segundo filme, mais uma vez, fico na dúvida de qual gosto mais (tirando o quarto, que é ruim). É notável o humor dos diálogos, artifício usado por Spielberg para amenizar os aspectos mais sangrentos do roteiro. A cena de abertura, com a orquestra tocando durante uma negociação de vida em morte na qual Indiana é envenenado, é memorável. Watching again this second movie, once more, I doubt which is the best (apart from the second, which is lousy). The humor is remarkable, a gimmick used by Spielberg to ease the bloodiest aspects of the script. the opening sequence, with the orchestra playing while Indy is poisoned during a life and death negotiation is memorable. Disney plus.  

4315 - INDIANA JONES E OS CAÇADORES DA ARCA PERDIDA (1981)

 

INDIANA JONES E OS CAÇADORES DA ARCA PERDIDA (INDIANA JONES AND THE RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK, USA, 1981) - ROTLA is a spectacular introduction to one of the most iconic action heroes of twentieth-century cinema. From one of the greatest opening sequences of all time to a plethora of classic cinematic moments, the production values are wonderfully evocative, and John Williams's score is outstanding. The script is filled with wit and invention, and the story is slickly paced and exciting. The action is spine-tingling, with booby-trapped caves, snake chambers, Nazi spies, religious demons, damsels in distress and romance, and the special effects are dazzling especially in the superb climax. The direction is effortless, and there is little to complain about the acting either. The part of the unorthodox archaeologist fits Harrison Ford like a glove and Paul Freeman brilliantly plays a smooth villain. 

4314 - ARQUIVO 81 (8 EPISÓDIOS) (2022)

     

ARQUIVO 81 – 8 EPISÓDIOS - (ARCHIVE 81, USA, 2022) - The story seems simple, about a man that is hired to restore damaged recording tapes found in a residential building entirely destroyed by a fire incident, and the author of those found footages is believed to be one of the many victims of the disaster. But as its main plot unfolds the complex layers are also revealed. It has a promising start, but gradually the writers seemed to lose their focus, and the story deteriorated into a hotchpotch of thriller, occult, supernatural, and even time-traveling. With that things became slightly repetitive, even tedious, in the process losing me almost completely. 

4313 - RATCHED - 8 EPISÓDIOS (2020)

Sarah Paulson

RATCHED – 8 EPISÓDIOS (USA, 2020) - This supposed prequel for "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest"'s Nurse Ratched looks great, as Ratched (Sarah Paulson, one of Ryan Murphy’s favorite actresses) puts on a vintage dress and wreaks subtle havoc in an asylum. "Ratchet" is a beautiful cornucopia of nothingness, despite the potential of the narrative. The visuals are gloriously vivid as if we're looking at a box of crayons in super HD. The set and costume design is amazing, but that's where it ends. The show looks like a spin-off of American Horror Story which many AHS fans might find appealing. The story is really straightforward there are some interesting and suspenseful moments (Episode 2 and Episode 4) but for the most part, it's kind of bland. I have to compliment the cinematography. Every shot in this show looks beautiful, the pastel colors, the scenery.

4312 - O RESGATE 2 (2023)

O RESGATE 2 (EXTRACTION 2, USA, 2023) - Directed by Sam Hargrave, Extraction 2 once again stars Chris Hemsworth as Tyler Rake, the fearless and skilled mercenary ready to take on other high-stakes and deadly mission. While the action sequences are undeniably thrilling, showcasing Hemsworth's physical prowess and commitment to performing his own stunts, the film often feels flat and emotionally distant when the bullets stop flying, especially when we have to turn on the suspension of disbelief. The acting is solid, albeit nothing special. The effects are okay for the budget, and the action is more than passable. The sound design, sets, and the rest are as good as one can expect from a Netflix movie. Directing is pretty good, probably what mainly saves this, together with solid acting, from being too trashy.

4311 - O MONASTÉRIO (2022)

 O MONASTÉRIO (OSTATINIA WIECZERZA, Polônia, 2022) - In a monastery cut off from the world, the monks run a clinic for the possessed. One day, a young policeman Marek comes to the convent. Posing as a clergyman, he penetrates monastic life and tries to explain the recent, mysterious disappearance of several tormented inmates. It turns out, however, that there is no way out of the monastery. The storyline in the movie was genuinely creepy and atmospheric, so writers Bartosz M. Kowalski and Mirella Zaradkiewicz definitely put together an amazing script, and I have to say that I was genuinely entertained from beginning to end of this movie. It was such a well-written storyline that sank in deep under the skin and will stick with me for some time. This felt like a trip back to way back when they used to make really atmospheric horror movies.

4310 - LAMB (2021)

LAMB (Islândia, 2021) - A childless couple in rural Iceland make an alarming discovery one day in their sheep barn. They soon face the consequences of defying the will of nature, in this dark and atmospheric folktale, the striking debut feature from director Valdimar Jóhannsson, who makes a coolly outrageous feature debut with this jaw-dropping horror-comedy of loneliness, co-written by Jóhannsson with the lyricist and Björk collaborator Sigurjón Birgir Sigurðsson, or Sjón. It is performed with an unflinching commitment by its executive producer-star Noomi Rapace, who is first among equals in a great cast of humans, animals, and various prosthetic and digital creature effects. 4309 - EARWIG (2021)

EARWIG (USA, UK, França, 2022) – Um homem de 50 anos é contratado para tomar conta de uma garota de 10. Sua tarefa mais importante é fazer a manutenção do aparelho dental dela, feito de gelo. Assim, o filme é realmente um trabalho singular, possuindo uma iconografia muito própria, mas parece se perder seu propósito ao se referir demasiadamente a essa atmosfera meio onírica para o seu desenvolvimento. In the end, it is a perplexing, eerie, bizarre, shocking, and fascinating puzzle to unravel. The colorful sequences of light mirror the emotional states of the characters and the rhythm of the narrative. It is unsettling, strange, and disturbing, yet entrancing and radiant. By bending reality, immersing you in low light and moody music, and with flashbacks, the film brings you into a Kafka-like story. There are so many questions left unanswered; a girl diving into the water, a woman watching, stabbings, surprising emotional shifts, a girl singing that triggers deep emotions, and so much more. 4308 - À ESPREITA DO MAL (2019)

À ESPREITA DO MAL (I SEE YOU, USA, 2019) – A história envolve uma crise familiar e o sequestro de crianças numa cidade no interior dos EUA. O que chama atenção é a atuação caricatural de Helen Hunt, quase irreconhecível, sem qualquer expressão facial. The story involves a family crisis and children being kidnapped in a small American town. Helen Hunts’ lack of facial expression is something to be noticed. It is a film of mixed tropes – child abduction, domestic disharmony and intruders living secretly in a house.   

4307 - O HOMEM ELEFANTE (1980)

Anthony Hopkins e John Hurt - perfeitos

 O HOMEM ELEFANTE (THE ELEPHANT MAN, USA, 1980) - A Victorian surgeon (Anthony Hopkins) rescues a heavily disfigured man (John Hurt) who is mistreated while scraping a living as a side-show freak. Behind his monstrous façade, there is revealed a person of kindness, intelligence and sophistication. This movie was executive produced by Mel Brooks, who was responsible for hiring writer and director David Lynch, and obtaining permission to film in black-and-white. He deliberately left his name off of the credits, as he knew that people would get the wrong idea about the movie if they saw his name on the movie, given his fame as a satirist.

4306 - THE MANDALORIAN - TEMP. 2 - 8 EPISÓDIOS (2020)

THE MANDALORIAN – TEMP. 2 (USA, 2020) – Antes de ver a terceira temporada, torna-se obrigatório rever as duas primeiras, nas quais a relação entre Mando e Grogu se aprofunda. Jon Favreau definitely reached huge success with this. The story about a lone gunfighter who makes his way through the galaxy after the fall of the empire and ends up taking care of baby Yoda is something irresistible. This is the show every Star Wars fan has been waiting for. Every episode is a wonder of the best CGIs ever and perfect scripts. Jon Favreau should be in charge of all future Star Wars projects.

4305 - X - A MARCA DA MORTE (2022)

X (USA, 2022) – Homenagem aos filmes slasher – um grupo de jovens planejam fazer um filme de baixo orçamento numa área rural do Texas, mas descobrem o perigo representado por um casal de idosos. Apesar da ideia pouco original, que lida com os clichés do gênero, o filme aproveita esses mesmos clichés para criticar a repetição de situações desse tipo de história. In this homage to classic slasher films, a group of young filmmakers set out to make a low-budget adult film in rural Texas, but when their reclusive, elderly hosts catch them in the act, the cast find themselves fighting for their lives. It's not an original idea, but it plays off the puritanical cliché in the slasher films of yore where the most sexually active characters are the most likely to get killed off. Prime.

4304 - O EXPRESSO DA MEIA-NOITE (1978)

O EXPRESSO DA MEIA-NOITE (MIDNIGHT EXPRESS, USA, 1978) - Midnight Express was still a superbly staged film. It has atmospheric cinematography and lighting, while the direction from Alan Parker is powerful and intelligent. Giorgio Moroder's electronic score is wonderful and unforgettable, and it is still effective and scary, adding a lot to the film. The film also has a very good screenplay, a very effective and iconic opening sequence, and a harrowing yet gripping story. Brad Davis in a breakthrough role gives a powerful performance as our protagonist Billy Hayes. His fellow Western inmates include Randy Quaid, Norbert Weisser, and Academy Award nominee John Hurt. Each of them adapts to Turkish prison in their own way and they all mentor Davis.

4303 - REMÉDIO AMARGO (2020)

REMÉDIO AMARGO (EL PRACTICANTE, Espanha, 2020) – Mario Casas geralmente faz bons filmes, mas escorrega nesse aqui. O roteiro é cheio de furos: Angel (Casas) é um paramédico, cuja vida começa a se deteriorar depois de um trágico acidente, e ele passa a ficar obcecado por sua ex-namorada. Há um certo suspense, principalmente por causa da boa atuação de Casas, mas as sequências são mal costuradas, deixando várias pontas soltas. Vale uma olhada, mas o ótimo cinema espanhol já fez coisas bem melhores. Mario Casas generally makes good movies, but he drops the ball here. The scritp is defective: Angel (Casas) is a paramedic, whose life begins to deteriorate after a tragic accident, and he gets obsessed with his ex girlfriend. There is suspense, mainly because of Casas’s goood performance, but the sequences are not properly connected, leaving several loose ends. It is worth seeing, but the excellent Spanish cinema has produced better films. PRIME.    

     

4302 - DIÁRIO DE UMA BABÁ (2007)

DIÁRIO DE UMA BABÁ (THE NANNY DIARIES, USA, 2007) – Scarlett Johansson é obrigatória. O filme é aparentemente uma comédia romântica, mas o roteiro possibilita várias outras leituras sobre as relações entre diferentes classes sociais, apesar dos estereótipos:  Annie (Scarlett) é uma babá humilhada por uma ricaça (Laura Linney, sempre maravilhosa) totalmente indiferente ao filho pequeno, com quem Annie tem uma relação próxima. Não é uma obra de arte, mas Scarlett redimensiona tudo. Paul Giamatti está mal escalado como marido milionário de Laura Linney, e uma surpresa: Alicia Keys tem um papel secundário, como amiga de Annie. Scarlett Johansson is mandatory. The novie is apparently a romantic comedy, but the script allows several other readings of the different social classes, despite the stereotypes: Annie (Scarlett) is a nanny humilliated by a rich woman (Laura Linney, wonderful, as always) who is indifferent to her son with whom Anni has a close relationship. It is not a masterpiece, but Scarlett changes everything. Paul Giamatti is miscast as Laura Lynney’s millionaire husband, and a surprise: Alicia Keys has a secondary role as Annie’s friend. PRIME.  

     

4301 - MADEMOISELLE VINGANÇA (2018)

MADEMOISELLE VINGANÇA (MADEMOISELLE DE JONCQUIÈRES, França, 2018) – O roteiro lembra LIGAÇÕES PERIGOSAS, sem Michelle Pffeifer, mas com Cécile de France, um impacto estético da mesma forma definitivo. Ela é a mademoiselle do título deste filme repleto de beleza, seja nos cenários quanto nos figurinos, transformando cada cena numa pintura clássica. A história reúne clichés da natureza humana, das complexidades das relações afetivas e das inerentes tensões envolvendo as injustiças sociais, vingança e as torpitudes morais. Assim como Cécile, a cinematografia é belíssima, composta de estilo e atenção aos detalhes, remetendo às pinturas barrocas.  This movie was filled with beautiful, over-the-top, ornate sets and costume design, with intricacies that made almost every scene fit to be painted. The movie has the cliches of its genre to touch on human nature, the complexities of relationships, and the inherent tensions and corruptions resulting from inequality (sex, age, financial, influence, religion) and self-centeredness (delusion, self-aggrandizement, callousness, vigilante justice, lack of introspection, pride). It is a sumptuous costume drama of court intrigue, revenge, and moral turpitude. Like Cécile, the cinematography is gorgeous, with natural landscapes and the interiors composed with style and attention to detail, reminiscent of late Baroque paintings. Netflix.  

     

4300 - POR UM TRIZ (2003)

POR UM TRIZ (OUT OF TIME, USA, 2003) – Denzel Washington é obrigatório. Neste noir à beira da praia, na ensolarada Flórida, ele é Matt, um chefe de polícia envolvido numa investigação de homicídio antes de ser considerado suspeito. A trama é simples e não difere de muitos outros filmes do gênero, mas a atuação magnética de Denzel – além da presença estonteante de Eva Mendes – transforma esse thriller numa experiência imperdível. Denzel Washington is mandatory. In this noir by the beach, in a sunny Florida, he is Matt, a police chief involved in a homicide investigation before he himself falls under suspicion. The script is quite simple and is not so different from other films, but it is Denzel Washington’s magnetic performance – besides Eva Mendes’ dazzling presence – that transforms this thriller into a unmissable experience. PRIME.  

4299 - PROFISSÃO DE RISCO (2001)

 

Depp e a bela Franka Potente

PROFISSÃO DE RISCO (BLOW, USA, 2001) – Biopic de George Jung, um dos maiores traficantes de drogas americano dos anos 80. Johnny Depp está genial, como sempre. Destaque para a linda Franka Potente, numa cena igualmente linda com Depp, um pouco antes do entrecho intermediário do filme; e para outra cena, na parte final, quando Depp está sozinho no presídio – extremamente bem dirigida e memoravelmente emocionante. O filme mostra um retrato consistente da ascensão e queda de Jung, no contexto das drogas nos Estados Unidos. A direção de Ted Demme é cheia de energia. George Jung’s biopic. Johnny Depp is great as always. Highlight to the beautiful Franka Potente, in an equally beautiful scene with Depp, just before the intermediate part of the story; and another scene, near the end, with Depp alone in prison – extremely well directed and memorably unforgettable. The movie displays a consistent and detailed portrait of the spectacular rise, and dramatic fall, of Jung and his travel towards turning powder cocaine into American's biggest drug problem. Ted Demme's direction is vivid, determined, and stylish. PRIME.

4298 - HARRY & MEGHAN (2022)

 

HARRY & MEGHAN – 6 EPISÓDIOS - (USA, 2022) – Em geral, fica um pouco difícil ter uma opinião definitiva a respeito de documentários como esse. É claro o tom positivo em relação ao casal é a tônica dos episódios, sempre pontuados pelo suposto ressentimento de Harry em relação à sua posição secundária na linha sucessória, aos ataques racistas da imprensa britânica a Meghan e às novas possiblidades de trabalho para o casal nos EUA. E qualquer forma, o documentário é bem feito e dá margem à várias interpretações – e isso pode ser um dos objetivos da produção. It is hard to have a definitive opinion about this documentary. It is obvious that the positive approach to the couple is the main chacteristic of the episodes, always pointing the the supposed resentiment Harry has towards his secundary position in the sucession line, the racist attacks of the British press on Meghan, and the new work possibilities for them in America. Anyway, the documentary is well done and allows several interpretations – and this may be one of the objectives of the production. Netflix.

TODOS JÁ SABEM (TODOS LO SABEN, Espanha, Argentina, 2019) – O diretor iraniano Asghar Farhadi (dos excepcionais A SEPARAÇÃO e O PASSADO) reúne Ricardo Darín, Javier Bardem e Penelope Cruz neste thriller de suspense em uma vila espanhola perto de Madrid. Tudo começa com o casamento de Ana (Inma Cuesta), irmã de Laura (Cruz), cuja filha adolescente desaparece misteriosamente. Seu marido, Alejandro (Darín) vem da Argentina para ajudar nas buscas. Mais um estudo psicológico do que um thriller de sequestro, o filme discute como uma situação dramática pode desenterrar segredos da família até então inconfessáveis. Iranian director Asghar Farhadi (of the great A SEPARATION and THE PAST) puts together Ricardo Darín, Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz in this thriller that takes place in a Spanish village near Madrid. The story starts with Ana’s wedding. Her sister, Laura (Cruz), whose daughter mysteriously disappears, is married to Alejandro (Darín), who comes from Argentina to help the search. More a dark psychological study of people under extreme pressure than the kidnapping thriller as which it's been marketed, the film examines what can happen when intense pressure causes long-buried secrets to rise to the surface, how they can bring some together and tear others apart, often because of misunderstandings. MUBI.

4296 - PATERSON (2016)

PATERSON (USA, França, Alemanha, 2016) – O filme de Jim Jarmusch é literalmente sobre o fazer poético. Paterson é uma cidadezinha em Nova Jersey, onde mora Paterson (Adam Driver), um motorista ( ! ) de ônibus e também poeta. Jarmusch insere no roteiro várias referências a imagens duplas, como gêmeos, por exemplo. A cidade se chamar Paterson assim como o personagem principal também indica essa dualidade, como se o diretor quisesse dizer que nunca estamos sozinhos – há sempre alguém lá fora com quem podemos nos identificar. Nesse sentido, o sobrenome de Adam (Driver) e sua função na história (um motorista) constituem uma outra duplicidade, certamente não imaginada pelo diretor, cujo significado apenas tem sentido para os falantes de português. O roteiro é simples: é possível encontrar poesia no cotidiano, em lugares inesperados, perto de pessoas com alma igualmente lírica. Uma obra-prima. Jim Jarmusch’s movie is literally about the poetic doing. Paterson is a small town in New Jersey, where Paterson (Adam Driver), a bus driver and also a poet, lives with his wife. Jarmusch refers to double images, like twins, for example. The name of the town and the protagonist’s name also indicates this duality, conveying the idea that we are never alone – there is always someone out there with whom we can identify. In this sense, Adam’s surname (Driver) and the his job in the story (a driver) is also another unexpected duplicity that only Portuguese speakers can notice. A ÚLTIMA PROFECIA (THE MOTHMAN PROPHECIES, USA 2002) - Based on true events, the film examines a series of inexplicable occurrences through the eyes - and mind - of one man played by Richard Gere. The plot sounds creepy and the fact that it’s based on true events sure makes it more engaging. The film looks and sounds scary as well and there are a few scenes that are bound to get underneath your skin. The film is still kind of disappointing as they don't really explain the movie so well and your left with too many unanswered questions. Sometimes its hard to take the movie seriously as there are some scenes that don't make sense or that the scene kind of feels like a joke. PRIME.

Ele leva ao paroxismo a relação entre arte e corpo humano. Esqueça o roteiro – a história é a própria análise do limite entre vida e arte, no sentido orgânico, literalmente. David Cronenberg proposes a reflexion about the exaggeration of surgeries, cosmetic or not. He leads to paroxysm the link between art and human body. Forget the script – the story is the analysis of the boundaries between life and art, in a organic sense, literally.  Enough said of the organ motif, for more organic to Crimes of the Future is the human evolution to dangerous surgery and questionable cosmetics, a world almost devoid of humanity and full of narcissism.
