O ASSASSINO EM MIM (THE KILLER IN wME, USA) – Casey Affleck vive, com intensidade assustadora, o personagem central neste estudo sadomasoquista, em que a violência está tão organicamente presente, que se constitui num personagem per si. Não é um filme de fácil assimilação, pois qualquer tentativa de aprofundamento no psiquismo de um psicopata requer um embasamento teórico que ajude a manutenção de uma distância formal do objeto, no sentido de analisarmos as diferentes camadas que compõe um comportamento aparentemente violento em excesso e sem explicação aparente. Casey Affleck, ao contrário do irmão, tem talento: é, de fato, impressionante a forma com que ele conduz um personagem ensimesmado, ao mesmo tempo tomado de emoções destrutivas, em qualquer direção e capaz de apresentar-se como totalmente desprovido de sentimento, a não ser a indiferença total, por cujas brechas sobressai um desprezo profundo por tudo que é humano. Seu personagem em MANCHESTER À BEIRA-MAR também refletia este distanciamento, embora com outra abordagem comportamental. It is not an easy movie to assimilate, for any attempt to describe the inner universe of a psycho demands theoretical grounds that help keep a formal distance from the subject, in order to allow the analysis the various layers that compose the apparently his excessive and unexplained violent behavior. Casey Affleck leads his almost silent character, at the same time taken by destructive emotions at any directions and able to present himself as completely deprived of compassion, except total indifference, through whose breaches leaks a deep contempt of everything remotely human. His character in MANCHESTER BY THE SEA also reflects this aloofness, although with another approach
