In the end of the XVIII century, a female painter is hired to paint the portrait of a young woman. From this point on, the director Céline Sciamma unravels a narrative that echoes the love stories that live inside us. The story, thus, highlights the gazes that encapsulate the truth of those feelings, focusing on the hermeneutic of the eyes. The movie also approaches issues about sexism, the obligatory marriage, the moralist repression, the vivification of the dreams on the verge of loving freedom and the understanding of the bodies after the convergence of the souls in a biased society (life the one we have today).
