O FILHO DE DRÁCULA (THE SON OF DRACULA, USA, 1943) – Lon Chaney Jr parecia ser uma escolha improvável para viver (o verbo é este mesmo?) Drácula, neste filme cuja história se passa em solo norte-americano, ao contrário dos anteriores (DRÁCULA e A FILHA DE DRÁCULA). Chaney, que havia se consagrado, na galeria dos monstros da Universal, como o Lobisomem, parece desconfortável no papel do conde. O roteiro é pobre, e o filme não apresenta a experiência visual das produções anteriores, embora já conte com efeitos mais elaborados, inexistentes no início da década de 30 (como Drácula se transformando em morcego). Lon Chaney Jr seemed to be an improbable choice to play Dracula in this movie whose story occurs in American soil, different from the previous films (DRACULA and THE DAUGHTER OF DRACULA). Chaney, who had success, in the Universal Monster Galery, as the Wolfman, seems uncomfortable in the role. The plot is poor, and the movie does not display the visual experience of the prior productions, although having more elaborate effects, which did not exist in the beginning of the 30’s (Dracula’s transformation from bat to the human figure, for example).
