AUTO FOCUS (USA, 2002) – Cinebio de Bob Crane, astro de GUERRA, SOMBRA E ÁGUA FRESCA, cujo vício em sexo o levou à ruína e à eventual morte sob condições misteriosas. Greg Kinnear está perfeito como Bob. O filme começa como uma quase comédia, num mood campy, mas logo se transforma no torvelinho de uma vida totalmente desregrada, e isso o leva a perder o prestígio, o emprego e o casamento, até sua vida pessoal implodir. A partir daí, o filme mergulha numa atmosfera depressiva, ao acompanhar o declínio de uma pessoa famosa vítima de seus erros. O roteiro registra muito bem a relação simbiótica com John Carpenter (Willem Dafoe, excelente), um técnico de som responsável pelo fascínio de Crane em gravar as próprias aventuras sexuais. A dupla persona de Crane se presta a uma análise mais profunda da vida de algumas celebridades destruídas por seus comportamentos inconfessáveis numa sociedade altamente hipócrita. The film starts as an almost comedy, in a campy mood, but soon turns into the whirlwind of a totally unruly life, and this leads him to lose prestige, his job and his marriage, until his personal life implodes. From there, the film plunges into a depressive atmosphere, following the decline of a famous person who is a victim of his mistakes. The script registers very well the symbiotic relationship with John Carpenter (Willem Dafoe, excellent), a sound technician responsible for Crane's fascination with recording his own sexual adventures. Crane's dual persona lends itself to a deeper analysis of the lives of some celebrities destroyed by their unspeakable behaviors in a highly hypocritical society. TC Cult.
