A ÚLTIMA NOITE (SILENT NIGHT, UK, 2021) – A premissa básica do filme é o anúncio do fim do mundo, com o governo oferecendo uma “pílula final” para que a população não tenha um sofrimento desnecessário. Já temos aí uma questão filosófica, pois alguns personagens recusam a pílula, preferindo uma morte natural (aparentemente, uma névoa venenosa tomou conta do mundo, num paralelo com a COVID-19). O roteiro lembra MELANCOLIA, de Lars von Trier, e mistura humor, desesperança, relações familiares e tragédia – todos esses elementos parecem mal costurados numa narrativa meio irregular, mas com potencial para uma reflexão profunda sobre vida e morte. The basic premise of the movie is the government announcing that the world is ending, and they have handed out “exit pills” (suicide pills) to the population so that they don not needlessly suffer. That is already a philosophical issue, as some characters refuse the pill and preferring a more natural death (apparently, a toxic cloud has poisoned the world, like COVID-19). The script reminds of Lars von Trier’s MELANCHOLY, and mixes humor, despair, family relationships and tragedy. All these elements are clumsily stitched together in a somewhat irregular narrative with some potential for discussion about life and death. HBO.
