20.000 LÉGUAS SUBMARINAS (20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA, USA, 1954) – Mesmo depois de tanto tempo, o filme dirigido por Richard Fleischer (de VIAGEM FANTÁSTICA) ainda é um marco no cinema de ação e ficção científica. A história de Jules Verne é impressionantemente atual como um alerta em relação à preservação do planeta. James Mason está perfeito como Capitão Nemo, com a mesma gravidade de Herbert Loom, em A ILHA MISTERIOSA. Kirk Douglas é a epítome de Ned Land (um pouco exagerado a meu ver) e a figura curiosa de Peter Lorre sempre me remete M, O VAMPIRO DE DUSSELDORF (Lorre não tem muito o que fazer com seu personagem, quase um apêndice de Land). Um pouco longo demais, o filme tem ótimas sequências de ação, principalmente quando o Nautilus enfrenta um polvo gigante. Even after so much time, the movie directed by Richard Fleischer (FANTASTIC VOYAGE) is still a hallmark in the sci-fi movies. Jules Verne’s story is impressively current as an alert to the planet’s preservation. James Mason is perfect as Captain Nemo, having the same gravitas as Herbert Loom in THE MYSTERIOUS ISLAND. Kirk Douglas is the epitome of Ned Land (a little bit over in my opinion), and the curious figure of Peter Lorre is related to Fritz Lang’s M (1931) (Lorre has not much to work with his character, almost an appendix to Land). A little too long, the movie ahs great action sequences, mainly when the Nautilus is attacked by a giant squid. Disney Plus.
