       A FILHA PERDIDA (THE LOST DAUGHTER, USA, Grécia, 2021) – O filme de estreia na direção de Maggie Gyllenhaal é um primor de reflexão sobre um tema delicado: as emoções, muitas vezes contraditórias, da maternidade e seus efeitos sobre o universo feminino. Olivia Colman é Leda, uma professora de Literatura passando férias na Grécia, quando uma família barulhenta e desagradável aparece e transforma o lugar num inferno. Porém, uma pessoa dessa família chama sua atenção: Nina (Dakota Johnson) está sempre às voltas com a filha pequena, e essa relação quase simbiótica faz Leda refletir sobre a criação tumultuada das suas próprias filhas e dos sentimentos conflitantes decorrentes desta fase. A excepcional Jessie Buckley é Lena na juventude, e sua atuação, assim como a de Colman, é merecedora de vários Oscar. Só não entendi porque Ed Harris tem, aqui, um papel tão aquém de seu talento. Maggie Gyllenhaal’s directorial debut is an outstanding opportunity to think over a delicate theme: the contradictory emotions of motherhood and its effects on the feminine universe. Olivia Colman is Leda, a Literature professor on holidays in Greece, when she encounters a noisy and obnoxious family whose brash presence proves unsettling. However, one of the members calls her attention: Nina (Dakota Johnson) is taking care of her demanding daughter, and this almost symbiotic relationship makes Leda think over the troubled upbringing of her own daughters and the resulting feelings from this period. The exceptional Jessie Buckley is Lena in her youth, and her performance, along with Olivia’s, deserves several Oscar. I still could not figure out why Ed Harris accepted such minor role, evidently not up to his great talent. Netflix.

      AUSTIN POWERS, O AGENTE BOM DE CAMA (AUSTIN POWERS, THE SPY WHO SHAGGED ME, UK, 1999) – Talvez o ponto mais alto da carreira de Mike Myers, a trilogia de Austin Powers não envelheceu – não é humor para todo mundo, é certo, mas, para mim, é um clássico. Nesta segunda edição, Powers volta a enfrentar Dr. Evil, com a ajuda de Felicity Shagwell (Heather Graham, sumida das grandes produções há muito tempo). Elizabeth Hurley aparece no início, linda, numa sequência curta demais. Como definir Elizabeth Hurley? Ela é um dos raros casos em que tudo deu certo no ser humano. Probably the highest point of Mike Myers’ career, the AUSTIN POWERS trilogy has not aged – its humor ins not for everyone, I must say, but for me it is classic. In this second installment, Powers is again fighting Dr. Evil with the help of Felicity Shagwell (Heather Graham, where are you…?). Elizabeth Hurley is in the first short sequence. How can we define her? She is one of the rare cases in which everything worked out for humanity.

     O CASO COLLINI (THE COLLINI CASE, Alemanha, 2019) – Um jovem advogado alemão, de origem turca, é designado para defender Fabrizio Collini (Franco Nero), um italiano aposentado e o assassino de um rico industrial alemão, cuja história se entrelaça com a sua própria vida. Baseado em fatos reais, o filme é ótimo, além de lançar luzes sobre como o sistema judiciário alemão acobertou criminosos nazistas, depois da WW2. A young German lawyer with Turkish roots is assigned as a public defender of Fabrizio Collini (Franco Nero), a retired Italian worker who kills an elderly wealthy industrialist whose story is intertwined with his own life. Based on a real case, the movie is excellent and casts light on how the German law system covered for Nazi criminals after WW2. Netflix.
