Anthony Hopkins é obrigatório. Neste filme, mais que obrigatório. Seu papel
como o mordomo de um lorde inglês é soberba. Incapaz de grandes demonstrações
de afeto, ele começa a se apaixonar pela governanta – outra impressionante
atuação de Emma Thompson -, sem saber o que fazer com seus sentimentos.
Paralelamente, percebe que seu patrão tem ligações com o Nazismo. Outros
eventos o colocam em contato com o mundo exterior e, assim, com suas emoções

obligatory. His performance as a Birtish lord’s butler is mind-blowing. Unable
of great affection displays, he falls for the housekeeper – another impressinve
performance of Emma Thompson -, without knowing how to deal with his feelings.
Parallel to this, he finds that his boss has connections with the Nazi. Other
events put him in contact with the outer world and with his repressed emotions.
