ADOLESCÊNCIA – 4 EPISÓDIOS - (ADOLESCENCE, UK, 2025) – Esta é uma extraordinária série britânica. Aqui, temos a destruição de várias pessoas, a partir da entrada da polícia na casa de uma família, para prender um garoto de 13 anos, acusado de ter cometido terrível. Este soco no estômago vai se intensificando, principalmente, pelo fenomenal uso do plano sequência, como uma onda nos levando correnteza abaixo, sem termos onde nos agarrar, além de proporcionar uma inserção imediata do espectador no drama imensurável provocado pela prisão de Jamie (o incrível Owen Cooper). Para além disso tudo, há o questionamento do que é masculinade hoje em dia, e os efeitos deletérios de gente mal intencionada inundando a internet com “fórmulas definitivas” para muitos jovens frustrados, desconstruindo comportamentos machistas, sem oferecer nada no lugar, e sem condição de entender o grau de maldade disso tudo. Daí, a agressividade masculina manifestada da pior forma possível em relação às mulheres. Cada episódio tem cenário e moldura temporal diferentes, permitindo camada após camada de contexto na construção da história. E, claro, a atuação de Owen Cooper captura com perfeição a natureza mercurial daqueles anos turbulentos, entre a infância e a adultícia, se movendo entre ondas das emoções associadas aos adolescentes: ele é afável, auto-depreciativo, envolvente, raivoso, engraçado, cruel e, talvez, o tempo todo, perdido. A série não é sobre a falta de esperança nem falta de compaixão. É, entre tantas coisas, sobre o que fazemos quando percebemos ser tarde demais para tudo parecer que não vale a pena. Here, we have the destruction of several people, from the first scene, when the police enter a family's home, to arrest a 13-year-old boy, accused of having committed terrible things. This punch in the stomach is intensified, mainly, by the phenomenal use of the single continuous take, like a wave taking us downstream, with nowhere to hold on, in addition to providing an immediate insertion of the viewer in the immeasurable drama caused by the arrest of Jamie (the incredible Owen Cooper). In addition to all this, there is the questioning of what is masculine today, and the deleterious effects of ill-intentioned people flooding the internet with "definitive formulas" for many frustrated young people, deconstructing sexist behaviors, offering nothing instead, and unable to understand the degree of evil of it all. Hence, male aggressiveness manifested in the worst possible way towards women. Each episode has a different setting and time frame, allowing layer after layer of context in the construction of the story. And of course, Owen Cooper's performance perfectly captures the quicksilver nature of those fraught years, between childhood and adulthood, moving through waves of emotions associated with teenagers: he's affable, self-deprecating, engaging, angry, funny, cruel, and, perhaps, all the time, lost. The series is not about hopelessness or lack of compassion. It is, among many things, about what we can do when we realize it's too late for everything to seem like it's not worth it. Netflix.
