The sequels distorted this initial premise, leading John Rambo to an unrealistic conduct of revenge and violence, in several uninspired scripts. In this first installment, Rambo is disillusioned, after being used by the American government in the Vietnam war, and must face the most violent behavior of law enforcement officials in his own country, led by Teasle (Brian Dennehy), a sheriff of a small town in the countryside.
