Kate Winslet tem uma atuação memorável, equilibrando fraqueza, desilusão e esperança naquilo que ela vê como sua própria redenção – a possibilidade de um amor e a inserção de uma figura parental masculina na vida do filho. Henry (Griffith) é a figura - guia que conduz a narrativa, desde a forma como, inicialmente, protege a mãe e, depois, como redimensiona a relação com o pai distante, enquanto aprende com Frank coisas básicas para o americano prestes a entrar na adolescência, como trocar o pneu do carro e arremessar uma curve ball. O filme é lindo e delicioso como uma torta de pêssegos maduros. Henry (Griffith) is the guiding figure who drives the narrative, from the way he initially protects his mother and then how he resizes the relationship with his distant father, while learning from Frank basic things for an American about to enter adolescence, such as changing a car tire and throwing a curve ball.
