JARDIM DOS DESEJOS (MASTER GARDENER, USA, 2022) – O excelente Joel Edgerton é Narvel Roth, um jardineiro que trabalha para uma ricaça esnobe, Norma Haverhill (Sigourney Weaver). De início, nada se sabe sobre seu passado, mas seu presente é apenas cuidar das flores para exposições e, de alguma forma, agradar a patroa com alguns favores sexuais. Com a chegada da sobrinha-neta de Norma, Maya (Quintessa Swindell), acontece uma ruptura na vida pacata de Narvel que, a partir daí, redimensiona seus valores, enquanto resolve os fantasmas de seu passado. O filme de Paul Schrader é um slow-burner com laivos de uma história enigmática, com a possibilidade de alguns bons estudos de personagens, como o de Narvel, sempre numa chave minimalista e instigante. Sigourney Weaver não tem muito o que fazer com o papel limitado dado a ela. Por outro lado, Quintessa Swindell consegue encapsular em sua Maya um torvelinho de afetos reconstruídos dos escombros emocionais do seu passado. Vale pelo final digno de um jardim bem cuidado, como deve ser a vida. The excellent Joel Edgerton is Narvel Roth, a gardener who works for a wealthy snob, Norma Haverhill (Sigourney Weaver). At first, nothing is known about his past, but his present is just taking care of the flowers for exhibitions and, somehow, pleasing his mistress with some sexual favors. With the arrival of Norma's great-niece, Maya (Quintessa Swindell), there is a rupture in Narvel's quiet life, who, from then on, reevaluates his values, while resolving the ghosts of his past. Paul Schrader's film is a slow-burner with hints of an enigmatic story, with the possibility of some good character studies, such as Narvel's, always in a minimalist and thought-provoking key. Sigourney Weaver doesn't have much to do with the limited role given to her. On the other hand, Quintessa Swindell manages to encapsulate in her Maya a whirlwind of affections reconstructed from the emotional rubble of her past. It is worth the dignified end of a well-kept garden, as life should be. TC Cult.
