UM TIRO NA NOITE (BLOW OUT, USA, 1981) – É difícil achar um filme ruim do grandíssimo Brian de Palma, mas ele existe: Um Tiro na Noite é um desastre, do começo ao fim. O diretor é conhecido por homenagear filmes, cenas e sequências clássicas em seus filmes, e nisso ele realmente é magistral. Nesse filme, o homenageado é Blow UP, de Antonioni, filme de 1966, quando o diretor coloca o personagem principal (John Travolta, lisérgico) como um técnico de som que, acidentalmente, grava a prova de um atentado a um candidato à presidência, cujo carro cai num rio (referência clara a Ted Kennedy, no episódio que enterrou suas chances de ser presidente dos EUA, ocorrido em 1969, em Chappaquiddick). Travolta está muito mal no papel, assim como Nancy Allen (nada como ser esposa do diretor, hein?), as sequências são mal dirigidas e o desfecho é tão incrivelmente mal elaborado, que custa a acreditar que um diretor do tamanho de De Palma tenha sido o responsável por algo tão pobre e amadorístico. Tarantino elogia o filme – não consigo imaginar que motivos ele teria para fazer esta avaliação. Um Tiro na Noite é, de fato, um tiro no pé de Brian De Palma e de John Travolta. It's hard to find a bad movie by the great Brian De Palma, but it exists: BLOW OUT is a disaster, from beginning to end. The director is known for honoring classic films, scenes, and sequences in his films, and in this he really is masterful. In this film, the honoree is Antonioni's Blow UP, a 1966 film, when the director places the main character (John Travolta, lysergic) as a sound technician who accidentally records the evidence of an attack on a presidential candidate, whose car falls into a river (a clear reference to Ted Kennedy, in the episode that buried his chances of being president of the USA, which took place in 1969, in Chappaquiddick). Travolta is very bad in the role, as is Nancy Allen (nothing like being the director's wife, huh?), the sequences are poorly directed and the outcome is so incredibly poorly elaborated that it is hard to believe that a director the size of De Palma was responsible for something so poor and amateurish. Tarantino praises the film – I can't imagine what reasons he would have for making this assessment. BLOW OUT is, in fact, evidence that Brian De Palma and John Travolta blew it.
